Head football coach Tom O’Brien and basketball legend Tom Gugliotta will make up the two man team representing NC State in the Chick-fil-A Bowl Golf Challenge. The event is being held beginning this Sunday, April 29 thru Tuesday, May 1 at the Reynolds Plantation resort. It features 16 schools competing for the first place prize of $125,000 in scholarship money (total purse: $520,000) and features two team pairings based on rivalries or recent/future matchups of the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game.
TOB and Googs will be paired with Derek Dooley and Stanley Morgan of Tennessee. Ten ACC teams total will be competing. Other notable pairings include North Carolina (Larry Fedora/Roy Williams) and South Carolina (Steve Spurrier/Sterling Sharpe), as well as Alabama (Nick Saban/Johnny Musso) and Virginia Tech (Frank Beamer/Dell Curry) whose football programs will face off in the ’13 Kickoff Game.
The event apparently will be televised by ESPN, eventually. Currently they have narrowed down the air dates to sometime in August and December (????). For more details, including the full list of teams/pairings, you can check it out here.
