Pack Baseball Topples Tigers @ Clemson

For the first time in 16 years, the Pack nine left Clemson, SC today with a series victory under its belt.  After dropping the first game of the series in gut wrenching fashion (7-6, 12 innings), the Wolfpack bounced back to win Saturday (3-1) and Sunday (6-3).  State currently sits at 24-10 (11-7) and in sole possession of second place in the ACC’s Atlantic Division, 2 games ahead of Clemson.

With barely a month left in the regular season, the Wolfpack has positioned itself well to make a strong push down the stretch and nail down an opportunity to host an NCAA regional, perhaps even garner a protected (top 8 ) seed.  The Pack’s rankings vary somewhat depending on the publication but prior to winning 3 out of 4 games for the week, the Pack was ranked 11th in the official NCAA RPI rankings.  A top ten ranking this coming week would be expected.

After a non-conference road game against Campell this coming Tuesday at 6pm in Buies Creek, the Wolfpack will return to Raleigh for an extended 11 game homestand during which they will face off against both Boston College and Duke in weekend 3 game conference series, as well as a weekend 3 game non-conference series against Cal State Bakersfield.  With single games peppered in against both Charlotte and NC A&T, the next three weeks at home will be pivotal for the Pack’s hopes to move into the protected seed category.

Following the Pack’s extended homestand, they will travel to both Blacksburg and Tallahassee for 3 game series against VT and FSU respectively.  If the cards fall correctly, the weekend series against FSU to close the regular season sets up as a showdown for the Atlantic Division crown.

Fantastic series win this weekend. Although Clemson is down this year and this was a must-win series as a result, it’s always a strong resume builder to escape any of the traditional ACC powers’ backyards with the series win.

The schedule looks great to finish the season strong heading into the FSU series and the ACC Tournament. There is a TON of opportunity ahead of this team.

As Pack fans we’ve become so accustomed to watching ends of games and seasons through our fingers, but hopefully this comeback series win after the heartbreaking extra-innings loss Friday night proves to us and the team that they can recover and win when it’s absolutely necessary.

Looking for great things from this team moving forward. It should be an exciting ride from here on out!

Oh Yea, Pack Nine rocking and rolling! Belk Bowl win, sweet 16, and now the bball team looking sweet. Good news keep on coming, at least on SFN. Observer doing a piss poor job of praising wolfpack sports. Instead all I see is one article after another about Larry “Full of Bull” Fedora. Observer might as well be on his recruiting staff. Anyone else besides me heard Fedora speak. He makes Danny Ford sound like a city boy. He preaching a all Carolina home grown team, state pride, and loyalty. Only one problem with all that Larry not a Carolina Boy himself. Seems if really believed all that he would have stayed in Miss. Preaching state loyalty to teenagers when he sold out for the money himself and left his state! Full of Bull Fedora already embraced the UNC-CHeat way!!!

Help me out, here. Does not the host team have to put a bid out there to procure it’s host status?

Seems to me that this was once a problem with that other guy in charge.

Someone said the other day that he had concerns for so much of the offense flowing thru Turner. Now, I understand what he meant, but man, that boy is a 12″ mainline.

These guys are grinders, my style, man.

If you have the chance to get out to the park to catch these guys, by all means do; I caught them up here last weekend against UMD – & while they dropped the series overall (in an extra-inning rubber match) they very much impressed me. They have 4/5 guys not afraid to swing the bat, including Canela & Ryan Mathews, Trea Turner is leading the nation in stolen bases, & they have a bonafide lights-out pitcher in Carlos Rodon (& a decent pen, also). While it was tough to see them lose the series, they are a scrappy bunch that never gives up. Do yourself – & them – a favor by taking in a game or three…
