First Four Open Thread

Isn’t it wonderful that the tournament is starting? Even more wonderful that the Pack is invited? Even more wonderful still that we get three days of appetizers before State and SDSU tip off?

Tonight, we can cheer on Iona College, for giving us V (and the “Jim Valvano, I-own-a college” joke he loved to tell). March is really here, and how sweet it is.

Just glad I have absolutely no reason to watch the NIT this year!

  2. WTNY 03/13/2012 at 6:07 PM #

Please show the game and not Obama every 15 seconds. Please.

Not only do I not have to watch the NIT, I don’t have to convince myself that the tournament is still relevant.

Bjd- few things in sports are more enjoyable than your team playing the Friday game. You can enjoy half the first round stress free

I’m pulling for the Hilltoppers of Western Kentucky. It would tickle me to see them knock off that other school from Kentucky.

Yes, it is nice to have a dog in the hunt for a change.

But I caution against a pre-count of unhatched chickens. San Diego State ain’t no cream puff. Coach Fisher has some experience in such matters.

  6. SuperStuff 03/13/2012 at 6:43 PM #

Yeah Fisher is a seasoned coach. San Diego State will be a true test for the Wolfpack.

I would bet a king’s ransom our foul count will go down, assuming the Hess gang isn’t in Columbus Friday.

“Please show the game and not Obama every 15 seconds.”

    Guess they didn’t hear you.

  9. tjfoose1 03/13/2012 at 6:56 PM #

No, he was heard, he just doesn’t matter. Obama knows what’s best.

Isn’t there a crisis to take advantage of, Mr President? Who gives a rats ass about his picks? I’m having a hard enough time with mine!

  11. Wufpacker 03/13/2012 at 7:05 PM #

I’m glad most brackets don’t make you pick the winners of the first four. I’ve just watched these teams play the first half and I still have no clue which one is worse.

  12. BJD95 03/13/2012 at 7:26 PM #

Hey, I actually LIKE Obama and am sick of it. Even worse, the retelling of that stupid game of “POTUS” Clark Kellogg played with him. Good Lord, is he ever dull. I still can’t believe there were people who rejoiced when Billy Packer retired. You should have known this would be the replacement. As if Nantz wasn’t milquetoast enough.

  13. redcanine 03/13/2012 at 7:48 PM #

Speaking of Nance’s dullness, I can’t take it when he and Nick Faldo are together calling a golf tournament.

  14. nav 03/13/2012 at 7:49 PM #

I love that the refs are letting them play and not calling the obvious flops.

  15. Hawkeye Whitney 03/13/2012 at 7:59 PM #

Doherty fired at SMU today. Bet he wishes he had never left Notre Dame.

  16. Old MacDonald 03/13/2012 at 7:59 PM #

The Flying Archies are playing in the NIT right now on ESPN. They are a 2 seed but had to go to Iowa because the Dayton gym is obviously being used for the First Four.

Too many turnovers and blown layups. This game blows. What time does ‘Justified’ come on?

Question: Does Saturday’s no-call equal the ’89 abomination?

Why are both Iowa and Dayton wearing their “away” unis? Looks weird.

  20. nav 03/13/2012 at 8:13 PM #

    MAR,
No, the ’89 call was much worse in my opinion. That’s why I hope we kill Georgetown if we get a chance to play them.

Frantic Hilltopper comeback! Just no overtime, please. I have to work in the morning, and really want to see all of the late game.

  22. Hawkeye Whitney 03/13/2012 at 8:26 PM #

WKU making an impressive comeback, after Kellogg declared the game over with 7 plus minutes left.

  23. Wufpacker 03/13/2012 at 8:26 PM #

Holy crap. Meltdown of epic proportions. About to completely wipe out a 16 pt lead in less than three minutes.

  24. choppack1 03/13/2012 at 8:29 PM #

Good gosh. I try go forget about that kind of crap

  25. Wufpacker 03/13/2012 at 8:32 PM #

WKU still shooting below 30% for the game, and they have 27 turnovers. Ugly, ugly game.
