Pack overcomes 18 point deficit to beat Texas! Amazing!

-Words can’t describe what those of us fortunate enough to see just experienced. Down 18 points with about 11 minutes left in the game, the Pack staged what I think was a 28-2 run(sorry if I am off by a point or two) to beat Texas. This is exactly the type of run teams have seemed to pull off against us for the last two decades. Finally one for the good guys!

-The bench scored 40 points. 40. It was truly a team effort.

-In an interview with CJ Leslie by Andy Katz after the game, CJ talked about the team having heart and that a lot of teams would have given up.

-In the tunnel on the way out, AD Debbie Yow stopped CJ Leslie and the two embraced.

More later…

Good news today from the NCAA.

N.C. State freshman forward Thomas de Thaey has been cleared by the NCAA and will play in tonight’s game against Texas in the TicketCity Legends Classic.

De Thaey, from Belgium, sat out the first four games while going through the NCAA Clearinghouse process. N.C. State (3-1) plays the Longhorns at 6:30 p.m. at the Meadowlands in East Rutherford, N.J.

While I have nothing to base this on other than some Youtube videos, getting De Thaey back immediately is a huge boost to this team. De Thaey is a 20 year old freshman with good size and athletic ability. And for anyone who follows him on twitter, then you might have also gotten the impression that he is an extremely hard worker and very dedicated to the game of basketball. That is a refreshing change from the last era of NC State basketball.

Who are these guys?! Down 18 only to comeback and win!

It is so great to have a coaching staff that can make adjustments. It helped that Brown decided to take an early seat with the technical foul for Texas, but the defense was completely different in the second half.

STATE WINS! STATE WINS! COMEBACK CITY! GO GOTT. GO PACK!!!!!!!!!!

This is a new era folks….maybe not Duke ish or Carolina ish yet, but we are back and on the right track. Nice job by Gott and staff to teach the guys to believe in themselves. They can only get better.

Unbelievable. WOW. Did we have a comeback like this in the Lowe era?? just thinking

^^^We were on the other end of several.

I can’t believe we made a comeback vs a team who was playing the freaking zone. Let me restate…we went on 28-2 run with a team playing the zone in that time period.

Painter continues to impress the hell out of me. His play has really been the difference thus far this year.

I do like that we have some lunch pail guys who just keep working hard and doing the dirty work (like CJ Williams).

One thing is for sure. No Lowe, Sendek, or Robinson team would have been capable of making a comback of that magnitude.

Just from the Princeton game, there is a flow there. And not a princeton flow, a real aggressive offensive flow. It’s a sight for sore eyes.

The last two times I watched the Pack play on Espn3 we were mauled by Wisconsin and thumped by the tarholes. I almost shut it down when we hit bottom in the 2nd half. Glad I didn’t!

That was night and day from last year.

Absolutely fantastic performance from everyone involved. I especially liked the fact that Yow was in the tunnel congratulating the players as they came off the court. Definitely would not have seen that a year ago . . .

Fantastic win!!! Pass me the red kool aid as well. I’m sticking with this group. They fight ’til the end not like previous teams that shut down when behind in the 2nd half! I’m excited about this team and this coach!!!

    Good job Debbie!!!!

Wow! Great win for the team and the program. What a week!

This is obscene, how did they do that?

  19. graywolf 11/21/2011 at 9:50 PM #

This is what coaching can do………really feels good to have a coach on the sidelines.

    Great effort by this TEAM.

Some positive buzz out of Andy Katz, of all people. He says, “NC State will finish in the upper half of the ACC. Book it.”

About 10-12 more of these comebacks, and I just might forget all the double digit leads in meaningful games we let go over the last decade+…

  23. TLeo 11/22/2011 at 11:53 AM #

Really great win. The last five years this team would have completely folded. It is great to see the effort and actual coaching this year! Whatever happens this year, the improvement is already very noticeable and should even get better.

Beautiful. Can’t remember when I’ve been so excited for basketball season. That said…

“One thing is for sure. No Lowe, Sendek, or Robinson team would have been capable of making a comback of that magnitude.”

Not true at all. I was present for a Sendek comeback of that magnitude. Want to say it was against Georgia Tech or Wake Forrest, but I can’t remember for certain. Either way, moot point. We got The Gott right now, let’s focus on that, yes?

    Great win — loved it!

Count me in the group that thinks it’s pointless to drag Sid (and even Herb) through the mud just because we’re doing well so far. First of all, by all rights this probably should have been a loss, leaving us at (3-2) and quite a bit less excited about our basketball status. Credit to our guys for hitting the shots to make the comeback, but frankly, we were lucky their best player ran off at the mouth to the ref and fouled out on that technical foul. Had he remained in the game much longer, I’m thinking the comeback would have fallen short.

I’m not here to belittle the comeback. Just trying to put it into perspective. The point is, we made a great run. But we had moments like these under the previous two coaches, as well. The problem is we also LOST a lot more games under them. We’re not out of the woods just yet.

And finally, my point is we should just be happy with the win. It doesn’t make it better to slam our previous two coaches. That just makes us look bad. We don’t have anything to prove. We don’t need to prove to the world that the right decision was to replace Sidney. The world already knows that. We don’t really need to say “TOLD YOU SO!” about it.

I’m happy for our team and our new coaches. I feel good about them. No need to run down Sid or Herb. Best wishes to them, too. I’m just happy with what we have NOW. I’ll leave it at that.
