Tailgating With the Troops!

One of the relatively new NC State football traditions that I enjoy is the annual Military Appreciation Day. This year, it’s being held at the South Alabama game on September 17th. The good people at the Wolfpack Club (you are a member, right?) have created a really cool way to thank the service men and women who protect our freedoms.

As part of this year’s celebration, Wolfpackers can sign up to host a soldier at their tailgate party. NC State provides the soldier with a game ticket. Wolfpackers can also purchase tickets for a soldier for only $19 by clicking here and entering the promocode THANKUTROOPS.  All you do is meet them in front of the Murphy Center, escort them to your tailgate, lay the Wolfpack hospitality on good and thick, and then make sure they get into the stadium ok.

This is so much more than putting a ribbon on your car or posting a supportive Facebook status. This is the chance to personally show a member of our military how much we appreciate them. It is a chance spend time with those who defend our country and learn first-hand about their successes and challenges. It is a chance to make a new friend and perhaps a chance to grow Wolfpack Nation even bigger.

If you’d like to host a soldier at your tailgate party on September 17th, please Susan Scott with the Wolfpack Club by Wednesday, August 31. Susan can be reached at (919) 865-1500 or by email at – [email protected] .

Let’s step up and thank our troops with some of the best tailgating in the country!

About SMD

SMD graduated from NC State at a time when beating UNC-CH in both major revenue sports was a regular occurrence. This was well before a time when I could express my frustrated attempts at being a writer on the "internets." When I'm not talking about the Pack, I'm probably arguing politics.

I can’t host but I’d like to purchase a ticket for a soldier (only $19). I think this is possible. An email directed me to go to:

gopack.com/promo and promotion code is: THANKUTROOPS

I proceeded to do this, but the system made me believe that I would have to distribute the ticket myself to whomever I hosted…or whatever. Anyone know? Can I just buy and the WPC will distribute it? I emailed Susan but have not received a response.

packallum44 – I would suggest just calling the ticket office directly and asking them. I was unaware of the ticket promo and will edit the blog posting to include that. Thanks!

It is not a fully user friendly system for donating tickets. I did 20 yesterday and even after calling the ticket office today I still have a small amount of doubt that the tickets will end up where they need to be. Anyhow one of the tricks is that you must click on “will call pickup” for the system to work electronically. Apparently that ensures that the tickets are not mailed. Maybe all this doesn’t really matter as NC State simply allocates a block of tickets and the “purchases” are not really that but simply a donation of cash.

Anyway, it is a great program and I really would like to see it grow every year and become a great tradition.
