  • Love the addition of “State” on the front of the uniforms just as Debbie Yow had indicated. It isn’t too big &/or gaudy…it isn’t too small and microscopic.
  • Personally, I have not changed from my preference of having some kind of stripe (or even small threading) down he side of the pants. I think that all white and/or all red pants just look to monochromatic and require some kind of contrast and stylistic upgrade.
  • Rumors persist about some kind of ‘alternative’ uniform that may incorporate a color like black.

The uniforms just do not look good. The word STATE needs to be removed as well as the NCS above the name on the back. The pants need a stripe or two. I’m unimpressed but will get over it soon.

Overall, I like them. I agree with others’ sentiments that there needs to be a stripe on the pants though. And maybe move the block S to the right shoulder to offset the ACC logo. As for an alternate uni, all black (including the helmet – w a red S) would ne cool. But only for a special game. I kinda liked MD’s camoulflage uni last year. Maybe something like that.

I think the idea is to use it when we play FSU on Thursday night every other season. At least thats what I heard through someone I know that works for athletics.

Just to ease any concerns over the red that you see here. It is PMS 186 (Pantone Matching System) which is the official red of NC State. I’m viewing these on a calibrated monitor and they look right to me.

I like the simplified jersey. It is not flashy, but it’s never going to seem outdated – classic. This is a jersey worn by a team that is here to take care of business. It is not about the pomp and circumstance. This says we will let our play on the field do the talking and don’t need an overly designed jersey to make any proclamations about who we are.

@hoop – if you remove the STATE and the block S from the back the jersey will not even be able to be distinguished as an NC State jersey. It will just be a plain red jersey.

wolfbuff – seriously!? If we are going to go that far then we might as well come out wearing clown suits. Those MD unis were awful.

I do like a red/red combo for a big game and wouldn’t be opposed to a black jersey for a big night game.

Come on guys…do you really think to a cougar like Debbie Yow that SIZE MATTERS?

  8. Wulfpack 07/26/2011 at 5:03 PM #

Overall, not too bad. Certainly not much of a “wow” factor but that is ok. I would love to see us in black for a huge game. As others have said, I’d like to see the pants with some color (stripes). And I’m just not a fan of that tiny Block S on the back. But all in all they are ok. Now let’s just go play some football.

Count me in as underwhelmed. At the end of the day, I really don’t care. Winning in good looking uniforms feels just as good as it does in ugly uniforms.

    Saw this posted at PackInsider.com…

    ——————–
Someone on the packpride boards did a quick photoshop of an adjusted font size:

    http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=178&f=2515&t=7704402&p=3

Scroll to the middle. The adjusted font size looks WAAAAAY better, IMO.

Odd they went with such a smaller font.
    ——————–

I think it looks much better with “STATE” being a bigger font. Maybe we should all flood Debbie’s inbox with requests to increase the size. There’s still enough time before football season, probably.

I’m hoping they released this before actually ordering them, just to get an idea of the fans’ reaction first. Time to react!

LOVE the jerseys. LOVE the fact that it says “STATE” and no “NC”. I hope we do the same for basketball. I think it’s classy and traditional. Hoping for red helmets with maybe a single white stripe. I’ve hated our jerseys the past few years. SO happy with this.

Somebody else said an all black kit would be nice and I agree. Otherwise I like all RED or all WHITE.

I will be the first to say I like any old school looks with football uniforms. Plain and simple….screw the walking billboard crap like Oregon, Maryland etc.

However, an all black uniform would look awesome. I think it would be good for special games or night games etc.

I would love to see a red and white Penn State style uniform personally.

I could care less what they wear as long as they kick some ass, especially when the light blue from west of Raleigh comes to town.

  14. hoop 07/26/2011 at 7:57 PM #

@NCSU12DDR The idea is to redesign them without the STATE on them. Add a block S on the front where the Adidas patch is and move that over to the side. Add some black trim, maybe under the arms like the Ducks uniform has. Add a thick red stripe on the pants. Done. And it’s simple just like you guys like.

  15. blpack 07/26/2011 at 8:23 PM #

    It looks sharp, clean.

  16. wolf_at_my_door 07/26/2011 at 8:56 PM #

A bigger font is better. The pants need a red stripe. Overall though I like ’em.

I’ll like ’em more when we are winning.

    Alright, I’ve slept on it…

Still a bit underwhelmed, BUT it’s slowly growing on me. It’s not the font size that bothers me. I know a lot of us like the bigger font, but I can’t open that link; it’s blocked in Afghanistan. I think a bigger font size would look good on Sweezy, worse on TJ. The whole ‘State’ above the numbers looks like Rutgers to me. The numbers on the front of the jersey also seem a little small. The numbers on the shoulders are awesome; best change they made. I couldn’t see them from the front view, but the back view shows them.

I love traditional looking uniforms. I mean, not to state the obvious, but that’s part of the attraction of college sports – the tradition. The best uniform in college football is Penn State – hands down (followed by Alabama, Nebraska, etc…). The Ducks, and Terps and even WVU in last year’s in the bowl game (when we stomped them 23-7, BTW) look ridiculous. They look like something a six yr old would create on Madden as a joke. I digress…Penn State’s uniforms looks the best because they’ve never changed it, hence traditional. For us to ‘throwback’ is not the same as traditional. Now, if we start and maintain a winning tradition with these jerseys then I’ll be the biggest fan of them years down the road. I can totally get into the clean (non-cartoonish) appeal of them I’m just not ‘all in’ on fulltime throwback as of yet. I do have a few strong uniform opinions though:

-Black would be heinous! All black, part black, whatever – no. Even though that is on some obscure color palette used for official memos between staff members – no. If black isn’t one of your top two colors (a la Panthers, Saints, Ravens, Raiders, etc…) then don’t wear it. If you want to see what we’d look like in all black, look at Stanford – no bueno.
-Red helmets are heinous. Let the Bulldogs, Cougars, and Scarlet Knights do that. Even as a kid, I didn’t think the red helmets looked right. I remember being happy when we switched back to white helmets.
-Red pants would be awesome! Not just once every year or two. Often – very often – like WEEKLY. It makes the red jersey AND the white jersey look WAY better. During a small poll I just conducted in my office in Afghanistan, all non-Wolfpack fans loved the picks I pulled up with us in red pants. I heard words like, sharp, clean, traditional, and awesome.
-Someone mentioned navy blue. It works for the Braves and I am an American (so I like red, white, and blue) but I’m not ready for that yet. It would feel wrong. No.
-An ‘alternate’ uniform is a must even if it’s just for that once a year game. You can keep the black though – that’s just extremely ugly and played out. I say keep the traditional design but go with a subtle color like grey. OSU pulls off the scarlet & grey pretty well. You can do a grey top or bottom. And it makes more sense than God-awful-black because, I don’t know, wolves are grey mostly. However, we don’t need to rush into the ‘alternate’ uniform. Wait until the new clothing contract and/or you have something that makes sense.

In summary, make the numbers on the front a bit bigger, put it with some red pants ALWAYS, and keep the helmet mainly white. Forget about navy blue or black (heinous) uniforms and go with a more subtle ‘alternate’ uniform — like grey. At the end of the day though, if the team wins and represents the school/fans well then the we’ll grow to love whatever uniform we have.

    GO PACK!
