    Does anyone still think Debbie Yow wrote that farcical letter? Apart from the spoofed headers and the wacky content, consider the timing. Why would she send such a letter one day before announcing a new coach?

    I cannot believe some of the negative comments – Mark Gottfried IS A VERY GOOD catch… He is an A- list guy but obviously off the radar working at ESPN…
    Glad to have HIM …!!!
    He beat us in ’06 at the RBC.

    I am very sad for what has finally settled in on me. The N.C. State job does not carry the clout it used to. Oh, to me it does, but for the rest of the nation it most certainly does not.

    I trusted that silence meant success during this search, but boy was I wrong. I still think YOW did a professional job but the State hoops job just is not as attractive as I had percieved it to be.

    Do you really think Gottfried can coach with K and Roy? Come on, what is your honest first reaction to that question?

    From pushed off the cliff, to hanging on to a tree root over the cliff, to someone threw us a rope.

    Based on news conference that he took a job that no one wanted. I have to give the man credit to take this “worst great job in the ACC”. This individual was not in my conversations, fairly sure that he was not choice of my contact. He is now coach of my wolfpack, therefore I wish him much success.

    Press converence made feel better about coach, worse about DY.
    Glad this crap is over, time will tell if this fail, meets or exceeds expectations. Go Pack.

    People like bjd95 give state fans a bad name. A poor mans bzdelik? Give me a break. Bzdelik won 30% of his games at Colorado. Gottfried got Alabama to #1 in the nation. BJD should consider himself a Carolina fan with all of his delusional b*tching.

    I think we got a Cliff Ellis type here. I do think the kids we have will be a good fit for the style I recall seeing at Bama. Bama never seemed to play a style that required you to overthink. Alot of our players should like that.

    From the moment that I received the E-mail last night, to the hire, through the the flippant unbridled Williams comment, I’ve not had much to say…to anyone.

    Speechless. I’m thinkin’ about it. TheCOWDOG is hung up, needing to know if Yow was hamstrung in some form or fashion, or actually might have hamstrung us.

    This hire has Herb Sendek written all over it. Sure, he may achieve a little bit more with the resources at State as compared to Alabama(for b-ball that is), but looking at his resume’, it is very Sendekian.

    Come on. Even those who are all about a showing of support right now, you have to be grieving somewhat.

    Most people on here wre looking for that homerun hire and at face value, this is not it.

    As always, I am praying and hoping and pulling for the ‘Pack to come up out of the slums of the ACC and the only way for that to happen is for a man like Gottfried to prove a man like me wrong.

    I think the comments about GW were fine. The online video looks like a one-off reach at making a slap at GW. However, in the context of the presser, her reputation was brought up 3 times. So, before anyone jumps DY about the GW comments, ask yourself 2 things: 1.) Why did the press – the freaking PRESS – think it was appropriate to make it an issue by asking the NEW COACH about her reputation 3 times during the presser and 2.) at what point do you say hang on here, this is getting blown out of proportion and you’re trying to make ME AND MY NEW COACH look bad. The reporter asked about her reputation with “coaches across the country.”

    Frankly, I wouldn’t take that shit either.

    You guys down on DY and our new coach make me sad you are state fans. Are you even fans, fair weather maybe. According to what we wanted, many of your were ready to settle for Smart. Gottfried was where Smart was 15 years ago. He took a mid major to greatness in 3 years. Do you think he is a worse coach now? Do you think he has learned anything. If we had Smart, we would have all those highs and lows and learning by hard nocks in front of us (in front of Smart). This guy can coach at the top level. He knows what being in a top conference is all about. It may have come about in a circular manner, coaching hires often do, but I think we are lucky to have him. I think he will do much better with this team than Lowe did and I bet in 5 years we are solidly in the top 40% in the conference which means we will be competitive and waiting for that magical run. IE Connecticut 2011. I can’t wait.

    Cow – that’s a very fair question…And in hindsight, perhaps Yow’s cockiness at the press conference should have been a red flag.

    Still – while I have my doubts, let’s see what this guy can do. A few years ago – he would have been an “A-lister” – but time and bad decisions can work against you…hopefully the break has worked for him. Whatever happens, he’s our coach now…and the good news is that – unlike our last hire – this guy has at least had some success as a Head Coach.

    On a related note – wasn’t Gottfried a candidate for our last opening?

    I am looking forward to the new coach and will support him as I am a true NCSU fan that years ago camped out for tickets for days for the chance to see us beat UNC and Duke during both the V and Les years. The hire wasnt the grand slam we dreamed for but what were the odds, really?

    I will always support any coach willing to put it on the line to better NCSU. I think those who dont can always join the UNC band wagon, there is always room at the walmart for you.

    Initially, when word leaked out about the hire, I was disappointed and joked about slitting my wrists, the long way. But after listening to the PC, I’m feeling more optimistic and thinking we are going to be fine. We called for Sendek’s head, and we called for Lowe’s head… we got that.. we wanted what we deemed an A-lister, but they obviously didn’t want to come… DY can’t MAKE them leave positions where they’ve got it made for ours – all she could do was offer. If they don’t want to come, I don’t want them!

    Honestly, I think DY has more balls than all the coaches in the search combined. After all, she voluntarily came here with this thing being a train wreck when she walked in! She sure didn’t shy away from a challenge.

    And as far as her handling of the presser… I was actually trying to analyze her body language as she entered the room and began to speak to see whether she portrayed energy/excitement or defeat. I was almost feeling the latter until the question from that asshat was directed to “Gottfried” about “the rumor that DY is hard to work for”. That was an absolute insult right to her face, almost with no respect for the fact that she was sitting right there beside him! Are you kidding me? The audacity! I mean, c’mon guys, have we not ALL been fed up with those very reporters and their extremely negative impact on this search?

    I guess people can say she was unprofessional in her comments about GW, but I APPLAUD her for calling GW to the MAT and for standing up to the press-wipes. They were trying to provoke! They have harped on this subject throughout the entire search – think about the extremely negative perception some of those very guys in the room have created about her and the insults they have hurled about our open position, as if it were a “dirty job”. It would have been all I could do to look at them.. I think there were some she was particularly annoyed at – especially the one who asked about WPC money… LOL! Don’t forget what those press-wipes did to us folks. And let’s not forget where those “DY is hard to work for” rumors originated? At least we know of one “source”, GW! She has a right to be angry with how that has affected this search, aren’t you all? So I don’t blame HER for calling him out? I’m glad she did it and I hope she doesn’t apologize. Now, I thought Gottfried gave a brilliant answer and spun it as the very reason he left his job to take this one and work for DY. But wasn’t there just the slightest undertone to the question that NCSU couldn’t get anybody else because DY is hard to work for? I say good for her shutting that BS down, standing up to those scum buckets, and taking control. But one thing I found interesting is that after she got that out in the open, her entire disposition changed to positive – she smiled – she got into it more – she seemed excited. Perhaps she was just waiting to pounce on that question. Say what you want! She would not have made those statements about GW if they weren’t true. She said she was going to expose people, now some of you are condemning her for doing it? I’m PROUD of her! There was NO NEED to sugar coat a response to that obvious and blatant personal insult and it was very damaging throughout the search.

    You can just watch Gary W while he’s coaching and see who’s the real jackwagon among the two! And then to read GW’s response (imagine self-righteous voice and 1000 blinks per nanosecond), “I’m not interested in the NCSU coaching search, I’m the coach @ Maryland…” Yeah right.. it’s not like you don’t have to coach AGAINST our guy or anything… c’mon he had his motives alright: (1) revenge against DY; (2) wanting to avoid having yet another BIG GUN to lose to in the triangle! I can’t WAIT until that TERDwipe shows up for the first game @ the RBC. GW is so totally TERDly enough for the TERDle club!

    At least we know this… DY is a FIGHTER and is passionate as opposed to that door mat of a dweeb we had before. I will particularly enjoy watching the WAR unfold now between NCSU and those frick’n TERDpins! Smear the TERDle!

    SFN, there’s a new WOLFPACK IN THE HOUSE!! Let’s eat some turtle soup and stir in a little ram meat for flavor!!

    I wasn’t exactly bubbling over with excitment when I heard the selection by I think over all DY did a better job with this search than Fowler did with the last one…she went after a promising young coach…didn’t get him and fell back on a coach with a solid resume and experience in a major conference.

    At least we can expect a more athletic style with some good recruiting in the southeast. But to be honest, I would rather gamble on a younger guy from a small school. You gotta dare to be great. Ie: Valvano, Stephens, Smart.
