Tubby to Arkansas?

Gillispie has also had informal contact about the jobs at Arkansas and just-opened Oklahoma. The source said, however, that Arkansas has already had face-to-face contact with and is close to hiring Minnesota coach Tubby Smith.

Why tease us Adventuroo? If you are not on the search committee, you are free to say whatever you think. Care to give us a few more clues?

^^NCSU84, I can relate. This time though, I feel strongly about a great day quickly approaching for State b-ball. This time around just has a whole different feel about it for the good.

I have already left several clues……in previous posts on this site and also some hidden. Fenrir will know of what I speak and can respond if HIS source has the same NAME as mine…..

I WILL say that the only name that I have heard with credibility has NOT been mentioned on this site nor on the public PP blogs…..so, I may be WAY off base. If I am, then nothing useful would come from starting a rumor and getting folks hopes up…..

As a contrarian, I also heard that our list is getting shorter and a lot of phone calls are either answered with a polite no or perhaps just not returned. Folks don’t want to hear that….and it flames them when they read it.

But, the reality of this situation is that hiring a coach with the resources that I THINK we have will not produce a name that all the bloggers want to hear….and THAT bothers them.

Tubby was NEVER, and probably never should of been, a serious A lister….so we might be able to cross Coach K, Roy, Billy D, Sean Miller, and a few others (maybe an Ex ACC coach) off the list….but, who knows……

As someone stated, I am NOT on the search committee, so my motes are sketchy and based on second hand info and hearsay…..as is MOST, if not ALL that is here.

    GO PACK….

I think Adventuroo is talking about Dave Rose, who was on the Houston team State beat in ’83.

  5. baxter 03/14/2011 at 9:31 PM #

God, I haven’t seen BJD put an exclamation point in a reply in forever.

    Don’t get me excited.

  6. ADVENTUROO 03/14/2011 at 9:31 PM #

Nope, not Dave Rose…..Fenrir has a name and he will know if it is the same as the one that I have heard……there are only a few on the list…..mark my words on that….

  7. redsteel 03/14/2011 at 9:32 PM #

    * a perennial NCAA participant’s admin and asked permission to talk to their Coach.
    * he is definitely impressive. It was a bit of an eyeopener
    * “his neck of the woods”.
    * If we are talking about the same guy, there are a few similarites to Coach Lowe….

    Are we allowed to guess?

LRM started this game. Here’s to the start of vicious rumors.

    I call Rick Pitino!

  9. baxter 03/14/2011 at 9:36 PM #

what resources are you talking about? Money, facilities, and talent are all here, so…

  10. MattN 03/14/2011 at 9:39 PM #

Everybody calm down. Our #1 and #2 targets are still playing basketball. We can’t hire them until they are done. At least a week, maybe 2.

    Relax….

” So she’s requiring a shake-up among the assistant coaches instead of with Sidney. Supposedly, a high-profile assistant coach is going to be replaced with some other assistant that we’ll supposedly be happy with.”

If anything to this rumor, how about Archie Miller as the Assistant Coach. He would be in place to be the next Head Coach. This would keep the momentum in recruiting going since he would be a part of the process already.

  12. baxter 03/14/2011 at 9:51 PM #

If Sid stays, I predict there would be a mass protest and exit stage left of donors.

“there are only a few on the list…..mark my words on that….”

FEW on the list?!?! Mark FEW?!?!?! SOURCESSSSSSSS!!!!

Going back and reading the two sets of comments I don’t see how Adventaroo thinks he and Fenrir are talking about the same set of facts at all. The two statements are completely different. Fenrir says we’re going to shock the world, Adventaroo party poops talking about an assistant. If we hire an assistant I don’t see how that is going to make us immediately relevant again. No way, no how.

  15. LRM 03/14/2011 at 9:56 PM #

Dave Rose was my best guess. I would’ve said Brad Stevens, but he’s no longer a “relative unknown” after last year, and the only similarity I can think of to Lowe is that they were both point guards in college; although Butler has been a “perrenial cinderella” and the “his neck of the woods” comment makes sense because Stevens is an Indiana native.

  16. bionicdoug 03/14/2011 at 10:15 PM #

Here’s the guess to Adventuroo’s post. Chris Mack. Xavier is a perennial participant (one of two teams to make the sweet 16 the last 3 years) and Mack was a Xavier team captain from Cincy so he’d have problems leaving “his neck of the woods” for sure.

My wife went to Xavier and I watch a lot of their games. His two years have been impressive. The guy can flat out coach. His teams are disciplined and he doesn’t tolerate nonsense. The dude is intense. His teams have been the polar opposites of ours the last two years.

If we do hire him, I’ll probably be in the dog house.

    GAWolf…

I am NOT the “new assistant” speculator…I have heard a name and also that we have gone through channels and requested permission to talk to another school’s head coach with the intention of hiring him as our head coach.

Sorry if the posts got scrambled and confused.

I have posted some info that Fenrir, who has posted a SIMILAR rumor, can relate to and verify, if he wishes. Maybe HIS name and MY name are the same. They probably AREN’T, but you never can tell with RUMORS….

I have been called a party pooper and worse here because I do not support a change and folks find that infuriating and question my logic and sanity.

What I do know for fact, not hearsay or rumor, is that the “A List” is getting shorter and that Change for the Sake of Change is not on the AD’s agenda. I genuinely think that she wants to improve the program and is trying to find a good match…..but if she does not, due to whatever reasons, she might decide to do nothing…..

THAT possibility is HIGHLY unlikely….so do NOT go bashing me for stating a fact and repeating a comment that she made….unless it just makes you feel better.

SO…no one has even come close to the only credible name (not that there are many more) that I have heard. Still waiting for Fenrir to respond, if he chooses to.

The beat goes on….and Fenrir’s Name, as well as my Name, had BETTER be focusing on their upcoming game and NOT NCSU.

^but Mack has been mentioned before hasn’t he?

  19. BJD95 03/14/2011 at 10:29 PM #

I always use an exclamation point after “Tubby”!

There’s no way we would pass up a CLEAR SHOT at a sure thing like Tubby Smith to roll the dice, or to pick up an unknown.

I’m guessing maybe people with a temperament of the sort that would accuse State fans of “lynching” Sidney Lowe this year isn’t likely to get the most credible information.

I could be wrong, but I really doubt it.

I have five really good names in mind, and am 75% certain that the next coach will be one of those five. Just not much credible intel on exactly who, and there may not be for at least another week.

  20. Dogbreath 03/14/2011 at 10:29 PM #

Adventueroo refers to the Washington coach.

  21. bionicdoug 03/14/2011 at 10:32 PM #

I don’t know if he’s been mentioned but he sure does fit the clues.

  22. LRM 03/14/2011 at 10:33 PM #

For the record, I’m just trying to guess Adventuroo’s name, by no means do I think that name is right.

So it’s a “relative unknown” at a “perennial cinderella” in this year’s NCAAT…

Gonzaga stopped being a cinderella over a decade ago so I’m not guessing Mark Few.

My only other guesses are John Pastner or Stew Merrill (“neck of the woods” comment)

  23. Dogbreath 03/14/2011 at 10:34 PM #

Adventueroo refers to the Washington coach, Lorenzo Romar, which would be an incredible hire.

  24. LRM 03/14/2011 at 10:36 PM #

“Adventueroo refers to the Washington coach”

Lorenzo Romar. He’s a relative unknown, but I wouldn’t call Washington a “perrenial cinderella,” although he is a west coast guy, which fits the “neck of the woods” comment.
