ECTC Open Game Thread

I may live blog just a little bit, but my daughter has a soccer game at 1:00. Have at it in the comments.

4:45pm Update: Evidently, this thread was below the fold all day and wasn’t sent the top as it should have been. So, only our more rabid readers found it. Our meltdown is happening both in our comments section of this entry as well as in this conversation on our message forums.

More later, if we can stomach it.

RW has regressed, the media wants to make him out to be the reason for our existence, but our D has done more for us this year than Wilson. I don’t know if it’s him or the coaches, but we have two plays, run or pass for 20yds. No screens, no quick slants and plenty of 3rd and 8’s.

That just pisses me off, makes me think do I really want to get home at 2:30am just to watch FSU kick our ass.

  3. papackman 10/16/2010 at 4:03 PM #

i really think the most of Russell….he’s a great athlete and gave us some hope the last couple years…but I kinda wish he would have moved on and passed the job to Glennon….and I”m not just saying this because of today!!

  4. papackman 10/16/2010 at 4:06 PM #

our play calling has no imagination and there is no clock management….

  5. Statefan1998 10/16/2010 at 4:10 PM #

Look at the rest of the games. We could be 5-7 this year. At which point we will seek a new coach.

Bible and Archer got SCHOOLED by ECU’s offensive coordinator! Fire them both and hire ECU’s offensive coordinator! Brilliant play calling by ECU vs our WTF play calling! That OT series was unbelievable! Seemed like a lot of contact at the end of regulation and on that last pick! But we’ll never get that call at ECU! And we should never have been in that position! Ecu opened every door to give us the but we never capitalize! We lost the game when we won thev toss and DEFERRED! I will never understand giving the home team the ball with 50k fans and when they’ve scored 37 points/game (and so have we)! Take the ball instead if giving them the oppty to strike first blood!

Well, at least we are consistent in the knee jerk ignorance department.

  9. StateFans 10/16/2010 at 4:36 PM #

No way that Wake Forest is a ‘toss up’

  10. Statefan1998 10/16/2010 at 4:38 PM #

They always play us tough. In addition, will out coach us.

  11. Astral Rain 10/16/2010 at 4:46 PM #

Saying state will lose out right now is ridiculous.

Hell, split the FSU/Clemson games, and a division title is not impossible. At least the headscratcher this year is non-conf.

Horrible, horrible game all around though. If 5-7 did happen, I’ll call for TOB’s head myself, 8 wins is still reasonable.

  12. Bowlpack 10/16/2010 at 4:46 PM #

I hear ya, foose. We’re still 5-2 and have to put this loss behind us. We have 12 days to prepare for FSU and depending on which team shows up, we can win that game. I wouldn’t be so ready to jump ship.

  13. papackman 10/16/2010 at 4:50 PM #

I’d agree we were out coached if we had coaches instead of a bunch of old has beens from Boston……they’re down here on the NC State retirement package served up by our former AD…they’re just biding their time

We did not play well, especially on offense, as I think most everyone on here will agree. Play calling was terrible. Can Russell not see double coverage any more? His progression through receivers is not what it was and the open man is usually not found. But, after all that, there was still a lot of holding on the perimeter by the purple shirts and several pass interference calls that were let go ( last play of the game). Can someone tell me what did in the past to piss off Ron Cherry and why do we seem to have to deal with him so many times during the season. Every time he calls one of our games, we’re fighting a uphill battle.
And how in the hell did Mike Leach get a job announcing football. My daughter knows more about it than he does . . . and she can actually talk and put thoughts together.

ECU has been an excellent first half team all year with defensive fading in the 2nd half. This game, their D held up all game in spite of the 2nd quarter.

The Pirates are a good football as is the Wolfpack. They played in front of an inspired home crowd, which offers an intangible to push them over the top this afternoon.

For conference purposes, this game only hurts in the pride dept. And it should hurt.

  16. Khan 10/16/2010 at 5:19 PM #

Anybody that really thinks we have any chance to contend for an ACC title is delusional. We will be lucky to win 2 more games.

We consistently get outcoached. Wilson is on the decline, and we have a mediocre defense at best.

    Too bad.

I can’t wait to hear all the comments when we play wake, clemson or unc and I get to read all these comments like, “I’m not worried about wake. Their defense isn’t good and with our offense, we should dominate.”

Ladies and gentlemen, we can lose to anybody we play, and lose easily.

  17. BJD95 10/16/2010 at 5:25 PM #

LMAO, I actually agree with foose this week. A truly horrific effort all around, but all it is is a very embarrassing day. It’s not a conference loss. We had already lost our ranking and unbeaten status. There was no opportunity lost. In fact, it will have NO bearing on what kind of season we will have overall.

No chance of losing to Maryland or Wake – even if we play as lousy as we did today. They are both putrid. So, there’s bowl eligibility.

The difference between “very good season” and “what could have been” will come in the three games against FSU, Clemson, and UNC. Win out, and nobody will care about today (and play like we’re capable and we can – none of those three teams is more than just “pretty good.”). Go 2-1, and that VT bed shitting will really hurt, but still fairly solid. 0-3 and I will be waiting for the retirement announcement. 4-4 in this ACC is simply unacceptable.

  18. rky 10/16/2010 at 5:29 PM #

I see the team finishing 7-5 with a chance for 8-4. As I said after the VT game, that’s way more than I expected this team would win. I agree anyone thinking we have a chance to contend for the ACC title is out of their freakin’ mind. Enjoy the W’s when they come. The wild inconsistency of this team is what frustrates me so much. Spread the blame around as needed.

  19. Thompson44 10/16/2010 at 5:30 PM #

Everyone back up off the ledge. Listen I love State but this is a 7-5 or 8-4 team. Russel looked like Favre thinking he could fit the ball into a pin hole and throwing into coverage. You can bet that Coach O’Brien is going to let them have it at practice. They will finish above .500 and go to a bowl game.

So again be realistic about this season and the progress they are making.

  20. Wulfpack 10/16/2010 at 5:32 PM #

The ACC title talk needs to stop, now. If we go out and beat FSU, fine, let it resume. But if we play remotely as poorly as we did today, FSU will tear us a new one on national television.

  21. RonTrout 10/16/2010 at 5:41 PM #

I now realize even more why we should never play ECU. We have nothing to gain that we couldn’t achieve by playing Vandy, Indiana or some other BCS bottom feeder. But this will be ECU’s biggest game every time we go down there and they’ll play over their heads every time. Like BJD said, this game really has very little to do with our goal of a division and conference title, but it’s the riskiest game we’ll play. I doubt it even has any impact on recruiting. It’s a loose/loose proposition for us every year.

  22. fernandopacker 10/16/2010 at 5:48 PM #

Our Special teams are disgraceful! We have not had a good FG or PK in my 4 yrs here.

  23. Khan 10/16/2010 at 6:14 PM #

Who cares who we play? Ecu, vandy, garner high, or big jim’s bait and tackle. Just take care of business and move on. It doesn’t matter one bit who it is. If it’s a lesser opponent, just win the effing game like you’re supposed to. That’s the ONLY thing that matters.

  24. slushy1975 10/16/2010 at 10:16 PM #

I love the Pack would never think they should not play in-state but out-of-conference rival because there’s nothing to gain. It hits me as a fearful position to avoid the Pirates (if we could) so as to not have them beat us. Really?

I enjoy this game every year it’s played. We just should win them all if we’re so superior as to not want ECU on our schedule. That simple.

  25. turfpack 10/17/2010 at 12:12 AM #

When you play bad you lose! We played bad and lost…that simple.
ECU has players on scholarships to and coaches that want to win…….so we take our medicine…..go on to the next game.
