Draughn in Atlanta with Hawkins? Or not? (nightly update day 72)

I have a two quick items tonight that are sort of leftovers but I wanted to clear them out this week to make way for all the great new stuff that is sure to come out next week.

On Wednesday UNC player Shaun Draughn did an interview after being reinstated.  It was pretty uninteresting until the last exchange.  When I read this:

Do you think the trip with Chris to Atlanta was the reason you were held out of the LSU game?

“I didn’t take a trip with Chris.”

I thought I remembered some Twitter information about Draughn being in Atlanta with Hawkins.  I was right.  We did an entry that featured the following Twitter exchange about Draughn and some other players in Atlanta.  To be clear, we are not saying that he was in Atlanta with Hawkins, but this seems to indicate that he was.  Shaun Draughn is  Showtime20unc, UNC cornerback Charles Brown is OpBoyGuapBoy12 and former UNC player (now agent as defined by the NCAA) Chris Hawkins is hawkEZ.  J.P Giglio of the the N & O originally pointed out these Tweets, which were from Kendric Buney’s Twitter account.

On the road headed south

So for whatever that is worth, there it is.  I thought it was worth revisiting after Draughn’s denial.

Last, I just loved this article from the Star-Ledger, written by a UNC-CH graduate.  Check out this quote:

Academic fraud. Improper benefits. That, in the world of college sports, is a daily double. Toss in a few fixed games, and North Carolina will have completed the Triple Crown of Cheating, and I can officially hang the purple and black funeral bunting over my diploma.

The Tar Heels might beat Rutgers Saturday in Piscataway. If the Scarlet Knights play like they did offensively in their first two games, UNC probably will run away with the game, even with a dozen players suspended.

In the score book that matters, however, Rutgers alumni will be the winners in a rout. They have the team that, win or lose this game, reflects positively on the institution they love.

Go Pack.  Beat Tech.  See you guys next week.

Most excellent post – thank you!

LOL! I love the picture that accompanies this, it sums up their institutional attitude toward this scandal perfectly…

“I’m not being defensive! YOU’RE the one being defensive!” *nervously puffs on cigarette*

I was just gonna write that I love the pic for this post. Somebody beat me to it but I’m posting it anyway.

Maybe Plz2B can use that SNL skit somehow.

haven’t been following this whole story closely enough, but here’s the question on my mind – are we to believe that the athletic tutoring program in chapel hill, which no doubt caters to basketball ahead of everyone else, was so roundly and systemically abused by countless members of the football program, but all in Roy’s cadre of Rhodes scholars are squeaky clean? For those of you who were around the athletics and/or tutoring programs in college, does this sound plausible to you?

I wonder if the real scandal behind the coverup behind the scandal is the lengths to which the powers that be on campus (and in Indianapolis) are going to keep Roy’s side of the house from any implication. As much as I’m already enjoying this, I would love nothing more than for basketball to get tied in somehow. I have a hard time believing they’re not, I just doubt it ever sees the light of day.

Tutor won’t talk to school investigators

    http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5612348

    Duh.

Looks like they are doing their level best to make this the tutor’s responsibility. How about the guys that she tutored? Are they talking?

She could turn out to be UNX’s “Deep Throat”. Double entendre intended.

Please tell me you guys forward all these ‘investigations’ you guys do to the N&O and other media outlets. It’s good shit to see all the lying/contradicting statements.

“….are we to believe that the athletic tutoring program in chapel hill, which no doubt caters to basketball ahead of everyone else, was so roundly and systemically abused by countless members of the football program, but all in Roy’s cadre of Rhodes scholars are squeaky clean?”

In a voice that sounds suspiciously like Huckleberry Hound:

You DO believe the basketball players are squeaky clean and these are NOT the droids you’re looking for.

    Oh, and I almost forgot….

“Academic fraud. Improper benefits. That, in the world of college sports, is a daily double. Toss in a few fixed games, and North Carolina will have completed the Triple Crown of Cheating, and I can officially hang the purple and black funeral bunting over my diploma.”

    Awwwwwwwwww…… 🙁

As far as the tutor not talking to school investigators? I wouldn’t get anywhere near those jokers if I were her. I wonder how many times she’s been threatened. And I don’t mean by overzealous psychotic fans.

Hell, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if Deems May is up in a tree outside her bedroom window right now with a sniper rifle. Of course, the rifle is likely a BB gun at most, but still…

And I agree with Mr.Plywood. What do you want to bet they’ve threatened to rescind her degree due to academic improprieties?

You have to interpret Draughn’s comments in lawyerspeak, since everyone over there has lawyered up. It could be that he was talking about Chris Mortinson or Chris Corchiani, so what he said was true. It could be that he was talking about an acid trip, and we all know that is not the drug of choice for hawkEZ. 8)

  11. Mike 09/25/2010 at 9:31 AM #

Wufpacker, more like Deems is up in a tree with binoculars.

Wait, never mind, Deems would not be looking at her. Deems is up in a tree outside Yates window, LOL.

More lies and finally a UNC-ch grad who realizes the severity of the situation over there.

From these tweets, I think it sounds like Burney traveled to ATL with Hawkins and Brown, and met up with Draughn while they were there.

“Almost to Atlanta to see some family remembers with my boys @hawkEZ and @OpBoyGuapBoy12
9:14 PM May 21st via Echofon”

“@Showtime20unc we got a late start but we almost there
11:00 PM May 21st via Echofon in reply to Showtime20unc”

IMO, if that’s the case, then I don’t think its a stretch to say he didn’t go to Atlanta with Hawkins.
