Baddour says nothing in address to sports club. (Day 77)

The UNC-CH AD gave an address today and said basically nothing, which obviously is what he set out to do.  If you are having trouble sleeping I would suggest listening to it.  His main point was that “The integrity of UNC is paramount.”  Really, you don’t say?  Then how about a comment on this, along with maybe a guest list (were there recruits there?) and the financials:

It is so great how the UNC “leadership” is able to trot out and give little speeches like this and somehow avoid any real questions, all while trying to portray themselves as compliant and honest.

Anyway, the statefansnation twitter feed does a better job of analysis than I could on Baddour’s speech.  Notice the same frustration.

Some excellent Twitter remarks on the topic include:

DukeHoopBlog Wow, they really mean business over there. RT @ErinESummers: Baddour: Honor court punishment could count as a red shirt year #UNC

  • Then why was she supposedly fired? RT @WRALSportsFan: Baddour: No indication about problems with “the tutor” during her employment at #UNC
  •

  • RT @ArmstrongWTVD: Baddour stumped when asked how it is Butch hired Blake w/ his known agent association
  •

  • Wouldnt expect anything less RT @WRALSportsFan: Baddour opens floor to questions “and the media gets none” #UNC #NCAA
  •

Someone on the PackPride boards unearthed the following picture from a UNC media guide somewhere.

Is that just too funny or what?  It is very difficult to make it funnier, but here is my shot at it:

Honestly, it would be funny if it wasn’t so sad.

We ought to thank Marvin for defining the “Carolina Way” for all to see.

DB said that the investigation into the facts was drawing to a close. I’m pretty sure that he said the same thing about 3 weeks ago on a radio interview. I guess we need him to define what he means by “close”.

Actually, it was a very funny presser….other than the fact that WRAL’s audio was on the weak side.

Dickie has his NOTES and got through the speech without dropping them, but he did make a big deal of turning the pages.

He was also MUCH looser in the Q&A. He actually injected a little bit of levity into the sad situation.

There has been a dramatic change in his demeanor and delivery….since that infamous “Chapel Hill, we have a Problem Presser”

Finally decided that Erskine Bowles has arranged for Dickie to be “coached”. Dickie secretely met with our esteem NCSU Grad, Mr. Robert Gibbs of WH fame. Gibsy, as his buddies call me, worked on Dickie’s delivery. Dickie would have been EVEN Smoother if he had been able to bring back one BHO’s tele-a-LIE-Prompters, but since the Campaigner in Chief is not on the trail, none of the spare back-up units were available.

They also ran Dickie through the “softball” question routine.

SO, the beat goes on….Dickie said NOTHING…..told us nothing new….did NOT answer WHY, if he was so clarvoyant that he “SAW” the deceit in the eyes of the tutor and the student athlete, WHY, he did NOT raise a flag and do some “snooping”.

BUT, it will all come out Friday….at least that is what the IC boys are hoping….and hoping and hoping….

Well it depends on what your definition of what is, is.

Honor court punishment could count as a redshirt year? Was that a joke? Integrity my ***.

Well if Gibbs is on the case, sooner or later it’ll be George Bush’s fault.

Is it just me or does Baddour’s announcement that they are appealing the NCAA imposed suspensions of two players smack of utter BS when it comes to preserving the integrity of the university? It is essentially saying that UNX thinks that what the players did was “not so bad” and the NCAA is overreacting. The arrogance in Cheater Hole, NC has me nearly speachless.

DICKIE WAS A DAY EARLY AND APPARENTLY A DOLLAR SHORT.

I don’t remember the question, but Dicky’s answer was – “Well, what we told the press was…”

      OK, but what’s the truth!

I thought the address was typical good ol boy bs. He seemed to make pretty light of the situation. Good call on teh press tour right before bad news breaks. Fortunately I think they are in way to deep for the local “media” to be able to save them. I guess Jed will have a new fishin buddy soon.

I was there too, and I guess my impressions were completely different from most posters. I thought Baddour was impressive in his tone and demeanor, and did a good job in responding to questions. He appeared to be neither stonewalling nor evasive. Of course, the Yahoo sports article coming out later yesterday afternoon pretty much dwarfed any positive PR Baddour might have gotten from his remarks.
