Some Random Things, InfoPack Style

Those of you who were Wolfpack fans in the mid-90s may remember “InfoPacks” – these were a fan-created informal email newsletter sort of thing. The InfoPacks were chock full of fun and/or funny material about NC State athletics. During the Mike O’Cain/Les Robinson years obviously Wolfpack fans were responsible for creating our own fun. Sort of like now. But I digress. Anyway I mention this because I am stealing the InfoPacks’ “bytes” format today and it brought back lots of cool memories.  So these are short stories that may not have any relation to each other.

***********************************************************************

Our first byte involves this guy:

As you can read here, this Mensa member/lawbreaker was easily identified and apprehended by police officers due to the Tarheel tattoo on his face. There is a lot that can be said here, but I am inclined to let everyone write your own jokes.  The year of his graduation from UNC-CH and his major were not available as I wrote this.  I will get back to you with those.

**************************************************************************

Unfortunately the rest of the bytes touch on the whole NCAA investigation into the UNC-CH Football scandal thing. Personally, I wish the UNC-CH Football cheating scandal thing would go away because I am tired of reading about it, but currently the NCAA is on UNC-CH’s campus for a second time and some other things are breaking. Since I last wrote, Coach Blake’s relationship to a certain agent associated with UNC-CH football players has come into sharper focus.  Hmmmm.

Anyway, this is just an incredible quote from Butch Davis concerning the UNC-CH Football cheating scandal.  I am amazed that it did not get more attention when it came out. I think so much was going on that a lot of people missed it. But it is way too good to not go back and look at it.

As you can read here, Butch Davis was asked if he had a Twitter policy and gave an incomprehensible answer. J.P. Giglio adroitly reported Butch Davis’  response to the question about Twitter verbatim:

“We’ve talked to our kids about electronics, uh, the media. This isn’t just a knee-jerk reaction we’ve been doing this ever since I’ve been the head football coach, is just talking about the YouTubes, the Facebooks.

“If you go back and take a look across the country, there’s a significant amount of college kids, that’s the No. 1 way that high school and college kids they communicate, they talk, they Facebook friends and develop relationships at other colleges and kids they went to high school.

“You just have to educate them as best you can about making smart decisions, what you post and what you put on there.

“I don’t think there is any limitations on the kids themselves because you certainly see enough adults that put enough things on there that would embarrass an awful lot of people.”

Huh? So he talked to them about “electronics, uh, the media” but did not put any limitations on what they post because adults also post embarrassing things? Does that make sense to anyone? Seeing as how Twitter posts sort of got them into all of this trouble in the first place, I might have expected him to have some policy. I certainly would have expected for him to have an answer that was thought out into full sentences.  Amazingly, Butch’s current policy seems to encourage more things like this:

**************************************************************************

Next, our man Marvin apparently has an upcoming court date to deal with several traffic-related violations. You can check out all the official charges and stuff here.

Upon information and belief, the charges stem from multiple incidents and include the following:

* a window tint violation
* a noise violation
* a charge regarding riding a motorcycle without a helmet
* something about a fictional plate/license
* a license not displayed charge

Alert readers will remember the noise violation thing from my first article.

For those of you not as alert as the others, in that piece I showed that Marvin tweeted this picture:

With the message:  “This fuck ass cop gives me a ticket. Stating that he coulD hear my music from 30 feet away..like wtf…”

So I just thought I would connect that up for everyone, as I like to see that our early reporting is now corroborated.

Speaking  of cupcakes, check out this recent shot of Biiiiiiiiiig Marv:

I am positive that Marvin’s next sentence was “Get in my belly!”

Seriously, #16 there looks like he is in serious danger of being eaten.  Run away, #16!

**************************************************************************

Lastly, this week we learned that this guy…

… is an NCAA investigator who handles agent issues and other things and who is apparently NOT (anymore) working on the UNC-CH football cheating scandal investigation. He is a double grad of UNC-CH and is also a former Tarheel football player. That cool picture of him is from his Facebook page that was recently taken down (but I thought Butch said all that “electronics, uh, the media” stuff was OK?). This whole issue was covered right here on SFN earlier this week, so I won’t say much. Apparently he recused himself from the UNC-CH investigation — so that seems to indicate that he was involved in it to some degree at some point. Wow! That really gives the appearance of an open and honest investigation! Excellent work!

Side note: I wonder if that picture of him was taken earlier in the same day as this one:

Pardon me, but is SFN running out of material now that Foulup is gone, DY is hired, FB recruiting is in the toilet, and BB hasn’t started yet! :>)

Wow. You know I never noticed those pine trees outside of Kenan before. Frickin majestic.

Marv looks like he has been on the Haynesworth Diet.

As always SFN . . . good read, straightforward. . . and entertaining.

This is my first comment here. I have been a member of PackPride for about 5 years and over time I have become increasingly aware of SFN. I agree with Pack1998. Straightforward and entertaining.

    Now…

That was an incredible quote. Good job Butch. You have justified letting your players tweet any sort of BS because a few fool adults do it. With an attitude like yours, I would never let my son play football for you no matter where you coach.

Keep talking Butch. Soon the NCAA will see that you have a “Lack of Institutional Control” at UNC. That is my hope at least. I want this investigation to go on. It seems the longer it lasts the deeper UNC sticks their foot in their mouth.

As an aside, I am glad Debbie Yow spoke out in strong language about agents and NCSU. It was a good display of Institutional Control. That is what she was hired to do.

Sheer f*’n poetry, Old Mac. I was laughing my a** off during the entire post (especially the Butch quote). I look forward to seeing more from you, bro.

And I like the old bytes format too – those were the good ol’ days!

    Marvin Austin isn’t too bright.

  9. ADVENTUROO 08/08/2010 at 10:21 PM #

WRAL is reporting “GOOD NEWS” for mighty Marvin. Wrist slap for the AL tackle. Barry’s male heir is stll “undecided”. I thought that Marvin lead HIM astray. If this plays out as reported, then there is NO justice…..there can NOT be thisuch smoke without some sort of blaze!

  10. bradleyb123 08/08/2010 at 10:34 PM #

It wouldn’t surprise me if they get a slap on the wrist. Carolina gets taken care of — by the refs, by the NIT selection committee, and now by the NCAA (assuming the ESPN cat is right).

  11. bradleyb123 08/08/2010 at 10:57 PM #

Apparently, WRAL just ran a big retraction on this report.

That dude from ESPN said “DON’T” expect good news for Austin.

All’s well that ends well, I always say! 🙂

I think that coaches should get quoted verbatim more often. It makes their repetitive, unoriginal coachspeak more interesting.

  13. rtpack24 08/09/2010 at 10:31 AM #

Wonder the make and model of vehicle Marvin was in when he received all of his citations. Also be interesting to know who owns said vehicle. This should be a matter of public record.

Sorry, I overreacted to a comment that was made early on. Came to delete my overreaction and found another comment. Realized, despite the comments that I’d still overreacted.

Let’s just say the party to whom the overreaction was directed knows who he is. If you’re in doubt, then it wasn’t you.

My only issue was folks dumping on stuff that the SFN authors produce with their own time and money, then complaining about the quality of the product here, despite the fact that it is free.

  15. JeremyH 08/09/2010 at 4:43 PM #

I agree with the comment about the subscription, and that my humor may have been misplaced (a sort of style I should be aware of : )

  16. Wufpacker 08/10/2010 at 12:09 AM #

Not a problem. I was way out of sorts from something completely different and took your comment out of context. I really am sorry about that.

FWIW, normally I would have gotten it and laughed.
