I’m confused…who is UAB going to play in the next round of the NIT?

Fantastic video that we wanted to highlight for your enjoyment. Hat tip to ncsu1 on our message boards for bringing it to our attention.

Commentators Joe Dean, Jr. and Dave Armstrong couldn’t mention the North Carolina Tar Heels enough during the NIT Round 2 broadcast of NC State and UAB. Now, I realize the game was a blowout and it was the logical thing to talk about, but they said the same things over and over and over. You might think I reused the clips at some point in the video but they find away to say things at least twice throughout the broadcast. The producers are kind of at fault too for continuing to put that bracket graphic up on the screen, forcing the commentators to talk about it.

If it wasn’t bad enough, the producers also missed at least 3 or 4 baskets cutting away to other action on the court, as well as taking forever to put the score up on the scorebar or putting it on the wrong team.

I make my point on UNC getting all the ESPN games because that means they get competent commentators and producers, as well as games produced in HD, while State got stuck with the bottom of bucket.

Maybe one day…. State will make it back to the promised land and be mentioned like that.

  4. wolfonthehill 03/22/2010 at 6:52 AM #

Well-done, sir… particularly to note that NC State was mentioned only 60 times… in our own game.

  5. StateFans 03/22/2010 at 8:01 AM #

^ Didn’t see that statistic of only mentioning us 60 times. Can someone guide me to that?

  6. TOB4PREZ 03/22/2010 at 8:11 AM #

it was the last stat posted to the video Statefans…. the very end of the vid.

Got ya! Thanks so much…I was busy trying to get it linked up and not paying close attention at that point. Thanks!

I hope the medical staff is nearby if UAB beats that tarheel ass, these guys will have a stroke in disbelief…I wonder if the announcers give all the UNC players BJs when they get in town…what a bunch of asses! One of the main reasons I hate those pricks at UNC.

  9. ncsu1 03/22/2010 at 10:42 AM #

the 60 count is approximate, I was on my computer and letting the game play through while waiting to here sone kind of variation of UNC or NC State, so it might not be completely accurate. Although it’s not really comparable since they can reference players on the court, etc. But it is somewhat interesting to compare anyway.

That is truly astonishing. Phenomenal work by ncsu1. Send a copy of this to the UNC arsewipers at ESPN, please!

Quick question for any of you in the know — if someone watches that video by pressing play in embedded window about, does it still count as a ‘viewing’ for the video on YouTube?

It looks like the number of viewings on YouTube are up over 500 since we linked. Just wanted to make sure that viewing count is accurate for all viewings, or just viewings from people that view directly from YouTube.

  12. ncsu1 03/22/2010 at 12:07 PM #

99% sure that viewing from this page counts as a view on the video.

I’m glad our game WASN’T in HD. The 12 minutes I did watch in “low” definition hurt my eyes enough. I’m glad the season has mercifully ended. It’s spring and time to turn our attention to spring football practice anyway. We can savor that at least – until the long dead period between basketball and football season. Of course, one might say that all year is just one big dead season for Wolfpack athletics. Maybe we’ll have a new AD to discuss soon.

I work for a school doing video editing and producing and we embed video from Vimeo onto our page and the views count as plays in Vimeo since it is embedded. The video still resides on YouTube, not here on this page. I hope this helps.

    maverick,

would you mind dropping us a direct email at [email protected] for a quick introduction?

    Thanks for the insight

FWIW…the number “views” on YouTube are less now than they were a couple of hours ago.

Really, really good job. Those announcers were so over the top that it was funny. My friends and I have talked about that since Saturday — how lucky UAB is to have such a fantastic opportunity to host the Tarheels in Birmingham. I mean, Carolina is going to actually come to Birmingham. It will be the biggest day in the history of the city. I can only imagine the Blazers players when the two teams shake hands: “Oh my gosh! I’m never going to wash this hand again!”

Ya know, they have such an overly excited way of describing the UNC matchup that I can’t help but think they were told by their bosses to do just that.

Now UAB can address the biggest priority on the table – making sure Ed Davis is satisfied with his hotel room. I for one, was shocked, that Ed Davis’ agent wasn’t able to reserve nicer accommodations in Mississippi.

I’ll be following Ed Davis twitter account closely…

I am glad that I was not the only one that noticed that junk!!! They kept on and on and on with how great to is for the school, program and the city that they will be hosting UNC!!!! I just could not believe how they just kept talking about it. I swear….that the ESPN executives either had graduated from UNC or must have their kids going there. It is ridiculous!

I also noticed that one of the idiots (not sure which idiot) announced the score wrong! At one time in the game we were down 17 pts. and idiot #1 (I will call him) said “Well UAB has a 27 pts. advantage right now!” I thought wow…this guy cannot subtract….why am I listening to them…..MUTE!

Yeah….these guys seemed to be low class commentators!

Poor commentating? I don’t know what you’re talking about. It was pretty typical of the way Jerry “The King” Lawler (that’s him on the left in the picture above, correct?) calls WWE matches. Although, he should have kept the crown on. It would have helped his credibility.

Here’s Jerry in his usual suit:

They’re doing the game on ESPN now, FYI.

I don’t think the hype for the UNC game would have been quite so … extreme … if State had put up more of a fight. I think you had the confluence of ESPN promoting another UNC game in the NIT, which I assume they do as a result of built-in ratings from a UNC game, with a very early blow-out and announcers needing a lot of filler.

That said, I don’t think a UNC @ UAB match-up had any more promotional value for ESPN than NCSU @ UNC, to be honest — had State smacked down UAB, I think you would have heard endless talk about the NCSU/UNC match-up and rivalry etc.

  24. BloggerEsquire 03/23/2010 at 10:17 PM #

Regardless of whether the holes deserved their initial seeding, they seemed to have lived up to their billing.

  25. NCMike 03/24/2010 at 8:51 AM #

You’ve got to admit though its pretty embarrassing to play UAB at their place that’s only half sold out, and the announcers saying that a large number of the fans were in line, at the building while the State game was going on, to buy UNC tickets…which ultimatley sold out in roughly 24 hours.
