We are just going to turn the The Live Blog into the post-game entry for two reasons: (1) I can’t emotionally deal with putting together a post game entry and (2) BJD’s comments in the live blog and the comments from the community are fantastic (and often times hilarious). You might as well scroll through them.

Can one really describe the magnitude of any beating when the homers on the Wolfpack radio broadcast say, “Be glad you don’t have to watch this”? (as reported on Pack Pride’s message boards during the game on Saturday)

From ACCNow

Boston College coach Frank Spaziani is piling on the points against his old buddy, Tom O’Brien.

On fourth-and-goal from the 6-yard line, Dave Shinskie passed to Billy Flutie for a touchdown to stretch Boston College’s lead to 52-20 with 6:22 remaining. Eagles running back Montel Harris, who’s rushed for school records of 264 yards and five touchdowns, has been taken out of the game with the win safely in hand.

N.C. State hadn’t given up more than 50 points in a game since Oct. 28, 2000, in a 58-14 loss to Florida State in former coach Chuck Amato’s first season.

3:32 – The radio version of this Live Blogging will be pretty damned uninsightful. You been warned.

3:33 – One thought that I’ve been having all day is that we are fortunate to be playing this game on the road. The home fans are quite anxious (and rightfully so). A road game in a non-threatening venue takes alot of pressure off.

3:37 – Three and out for the Pack into the wind. Ruh roh.

3:40 – I hate Mack Brown, but I’m just cheering for this game to end. I’d much rather see USC face the SEC champ for the MNC, though.

3:41 – Wow, BC forced to punt. Hope we manage not to muff this one.

3:43 – Lots of excitement from the radio crew for a 3-yard catch. Thanks for getting my hopes up, Gary. Yeesh.

3:49 – 7-0 BC. Long 2 play drive. That’s more like it, Pack.

3:51 – Look on the bright side – at least we didn’t have to see it!

3:52 – Radio broadcast missed the kickoff. Good Lord. Can you say “bush league?”

3:54 – ABC graciously showing the hand shaking and ass patting after OU/Texas. Bastards. It was a shitty game. Move on, and let us watch OUR shitty game.

3:56 – I think Mack Brown almost gave Colt McCoy a tongue kiss, before settling for a neck caress and hug. Wilson scores on a sneak, game tied at 7. Maybe we’ll get to see the second half. Seriously, when have you EVER seen post-game circle jerks be televised over live scheduled games? ABC really thinks this is compelling viewing.

4:01 – Smith falls down in coverage, 60-yard TD from Shinskie. Everybody gets to be Peyton Manning for a day against State. Words can’t express how badly we suck. It was the first play viewers in the HOME CITY got to see on television, despite the noon gfame having been over for 8 minutes (plus 4 minutes of kneel downs and timeouts).

4:08 – 3rd and 1. Watch us not pick it up, then punt like morons.

4:10 – Just like I called it. So freaking predictable and pathetic.

4:16 – BC doesn’t throw downfield, and thus is forced to punt.

4:19 – Glad to see Baker being used in the passing game.

4:20 – RW gets away with an awful passing decision – should have been an easy pick.

4:22 – 4th and 2 from the 22. Easy call to go for it.

4:23 – It was an easy call, but still surprised we went for it. First down, Pack.

4:25 – I would go for it here, too. But we won’t.

4:26 – Remember this gutless decision when we’re down 28-10 at the half. I expect this will be the turning point of the game.

4:33 – Wow, Morgan with a well-timed hit breaks up a pass. There’s a first time for everything.

4:34 – State’s most effective 3rd and long defense – the blatant drop.

4:37 – Wilson makes his first really good play of the game. 1st and 10 inside the 20. Nice duck by Spencer to avoid concussion redux.

4:40 – Another stupid field goal. Very, very frustrating.

4:45 – Eagles driving against more very soft defense.

4:47 – 21-13, BC. Tailback walks into the end zone. 3 minutes left for the Wolfpack to answer. It’s critical to do so, as BC gets the ball first in the second half.

4:53 – Well, at least BC shouldn’t get the ball back with time to score.

4:55 – BC’s blitz gets picked up, but still nobody is open. Pitiful.

4:57 – Wilson overthrow is picked, BC does have enough time to score after all. Awful stuff from the awful Pack, Act III.

4:59 – 3rd and 10, BC runs up the middle. And picks up TWENTY.

5:01 – Another drop by an Eagle wideout negates a TD. Pack living on borrowed time. And barely living.

5:06 – No way was BC set before the clock kill. But no flag, and the field goal is…good. 24-13 is your halftime score. I’m pretty disgusted, and second half updates might be a bit less regular (I also have a headache).

5:31 – Third and long, no coverage or pressure by the Pack. Lather, rinse, repeat. This season is over, folks. We’re just playing out the string at this point.

5:34 – Third and four is converted easily, for some variety.

5:38 – 2nd and goal from 10 (after our first Willie Young sighting), BC runs up the middle untouched for six. Today, we aren’t even getting into position to miss tackles. We just stand around holding our nads. 31-13. Glad we got those field goals back when this was a semi-competitive game.

5:50 – 38-13 now. Yes, it was possible to play worse than we did against Duke. I may pop in with a random insult here or there, but this ends the regular live blogging. Go take a walk or something.

6:02 – (By LRM) I’m gonna be really pissed if all those BC fans were right about TOB. (Sorry BJD, I couldn’t resist)

Owen Spencer just dodged two BC defender’s like Neo from the Matrix while they demolished each other, nice play.

  2. bradleyb123 10/17/2009 at 4:26 PM #

I’m away from a TV for a while. Just watching play-by-play at cnnsi.com

Anybody have a gut feeling yet? Do we look like we want this one?

  3. ncsufan13 10/17/2009 at 4:28 PM #

Our offense is playing well enough, if BC keeps dropping passes we’re in the clear =P

  4. bradleyb123 10/17/2009 at 4:29 PM #

Another FG. Crap. Oh well, keep it close, Pack

  5. bradleyb123 10/17/2009 at 4:30 PM #

Sure hope these FG’s don’t come back to haunt us. We just left 8 points on the field in the last two possessions.

  6. bradleyb123 10/17/2009 at 4:31 PM #

Come on Pack, get another dropped pass, I mean, another stop!!

  7. wbnation 10/17/2009 at 4:31 PM #

Our receivers suck…so why are we still throwing the ball 75% of the time?…we have good backs….USE THEM!!!!!

  8. bradleyb123 10/17/2009 at 4:33 PM #

Our receivers suck? Aren’t they the reason we got into FG range that quickly?

But you’re right, we should use our backs more.

  9. bradleyb123 10/17/2009 at 4:34 PM #

41 yard kickoff return. We should just start kicking out of bounds on kickoffs. Seriously.

  10. bradleyb123 10/17/2009 at 4:36 PM #

ok, I’m outta here. Going home to see the ugliness on TV.

GO PACK! We need this one!

  11. wbnation 10/17/2009 at 4:37 PM #

why is Audie Cole on the field…slow can’t cover? wtf?

  12. 1.21 Jigawatts 10/17/2009 at 4:37 PM #

Is it just me or does anyone else hope that TOB moves Audi Cole to MLB after the season is over? He’s just too slow to cover the open space.

  13. wbnation 10/17/2009 at 4:40 PM #

“Our receivers suck? Aren’t they the reason we got into FG range that quickly?”

it was one reception by spencer…..the rest of the time it was either Bryan or the backs…and the other time we threw to a receiver he was run down from behind by a linebacker…a LINEBACKER!… and if you notice just like last week..wilson scrambles and for some reason he gives himself extra time yet our receiver can still not get any seperation..so yes our receiving core is just terrible…almost as bad as the linebacking core and the safety core and the cornerback core…and thats a lot of SUCKING!!!

  14. Alpha Wolf 10/17/2009 at 4:44 PM #

Yes our WR Corp doesn’t escape from much.

  15. Alpha Wolf 10/17/2009 at 4:46 PM #

Nice. Just effin nice. Damn lucky that INT was not returned.

  16. 1.21 Jigawatts 10/17/2009 at 4:48 PM #

That’s because they all run to their spot and…that’s about it. They stand there wonder why RW won’t throw it to them.

  17. wolfonthehill 10/17/2009 at 4:49 PM #

In Year 3, this is not good enough.

Quite simply, we have a BAD football team.

  18. 1.21 Jigawatts 10/17/2009 at 4:51 PM #

Our best defensive play is the dropped pass.

  19. wbnation 10/17/2009 at 5:04 PM #

boston college should be up by 2 touchdowns….hell they may have just as bad of a receiving core as ours…the drop pass has been our best defense…should have used it against WF and Duke…how did that “good” wake forest team do today? We got killed by Duke…yes Duke..and we got beat by a not very good Wake Forest team. If there is one person who said we didn’t have a very good football team..he is the one who should know..thanks Tom for telling us a couple of weeks ago…I was just hoping it was coach speak..guess it was the god awful truth.

  20. ncsustash 10/17/2009 at 5:04 PM #

that was garbage. BC was in an illegal formation for that spike. They only had 2 people not on the line.

Ya know, before the season began I truly believed that we were a year or two away from being good enough to challenge for the division and the conference championship, and that the prognosticators and fans who were expecting great things this year seemingly based mostly on our 4 game win streak to end the regular season and become bowl eligible and returning the ACC’s most effective QB from last season, were not seeing the obvious weaknesses in certain areas either willfully or not. And this was before Nate Irving was lost for the year.

But I can honestly say I did NOT think we’d be as bad as we apparently are. And even after the Wake game I still believed we’d see improvement from week to week for the rest of the season and that we’d get our share of W’s and probably finish in the 7-5 range. As it looks now, 7-5 is waayyyyyy overshooting as a goal for this team based on what we’ve seen in the first 6 1/2 games.

The pass defense has been consistently horrid, and only seems to be getting worse as the season progresses. And now our offense, which was pretty much dependent upon RW being superman again this year, is faltering as well. RW has proven that he’s human. And please don’t mistake that remark for criticism of RW…with the exception of our backs he is surrounded by a bunch of stiffs in pads. Its actually pretty amazing he’s been able to do what he has done.

After seeing the first half today, and again not seeing any improvement in the same areas of deficiency that have been hobbling us all season, it is now apparent that there will not be any significant improvement to be seen this season. If we were capable of improving in those areas we would already be doing so. I don’t believe the responsible parties, for one reason or another, have the ability to take the coaches’ advice and put into practice effectively, and because of this I think the rest of this season will be just as painful as it has been up to this point.

But what really worries me is if these young players have not been able to show ANY improvement to this point, what is going to change between now and the beginning of NEXT season? All I can say is that I hope the return of Nate Irving will have the same degree of impact on the overall performance of the defense next year as it did last year when he returned from missed games and the defense as a whole seemed better just because he was back on the field.

If we don’t have that same degree of improvement after his return we can pretty much expect a repeat of this year.

If there is a worse D than NC State, who has it?

  23. ncsufan13 10/17/2009 at 5:26 PM #

Indiana, Washington State, and Syracuse might have worse defenses than us.

  24. NCSU88 10/17/2009 at 5:27 PM #

Is Nate allowed to help the team at all? Does he do any coaching or mentoring of the LBs? Not that it would help, but an idea.

Is it too premature to start listing coaching prospects?
