Lorenzo Brown posterizes two defenders

NC State basketball commitment Lorenzo Brown re-confirmed his commitment to the Wolfpack last week and followed up the commitment by posting a triple double in a scrimmage against Hargrave. Brown scored 26 points on 11 of 16 shooting while grabbing12 rebounds and distributing 11 assists. You can see about a minute and a half of ‘Brown-centric’ video from the game by clicking here.

One of Brown’s moves was the lead story at this website and can be seen below. You can also click here for our Tag archive of past Lorenzo Brown stories.

Heck…while we are showing videos we might as well share this amazing highlight reel of Ryan Harrow’s:

alpha: That was my point. Next year has never come, this year is not next year, and next year will never come.

So until the people at the top are gone we are going to suck all the time at everything…Got it!

If you’re not impressed with Harrow, OUTSIDE of his dunking abilities, then you’re not paying attention. Harrow can do things with the ball that other point guards can’t even conceive of doing. He has OUTSTANDING court vision, his handles are heads and shoulders above any other PG in any class for last 5-10 years, he has good athleticism and a good shot with the ability to create and finish. Harrow is going to be one of the greatest players to ever come through NCSU and the ACC. The ONLY part of Harrow’s “game” that is lacking, is his size.

I can’t wait till 2010, a lot of people are going to have a lot of crow to eat and I’m going to enjoy serving it piece by piece.

Harrow is going to be one of the greatest players to ever come through NCSU and the ACC.

if that’s the case, then Sid better do great things with him next year because he’ll be one and done.

  5. Stateman 10/27/2009 at 3:40 PM #

He wouldn’t be one and done. Even if he puts on 20lbs of muscle by then, he’ll still only weigh 175lbs or so. Not even remotely big enough to be NBA ready. He’ll be here for at least 3 years IMHO

  6. Thinkpack17 10/27/2009 at 3:50 PM #

That could be the only advantage of having Lo Brown sit out this year. Maybe these god brothers stick around until they have accomplished something special together. Maybe bringing Lo Brown in at the same time as Ryan keeps them both around.

I’m aware it could go the other way too.

  7. Stateman 10/27/2009 at 4:02 PM #

Actually it’s best for everybody if Brown sits out this year. Think about it, even WITH Brown we’d be picked at or near the bottom of the league. Brown as a freshman this year probably wouldn’t help us win maybe, i’ll say 3 or 4 extra games, which would get us closer to tournament eligibility but is it really worth it in the long run.

The advantages of having him come this year: 3 or 4 extra wins and a slightly higher finish and a POSSIBLE NCAA team and a likely NIT team.

The advantages of having Brown come NEXT year: He’ll have an extra year of development against better competition without losing a year of eligibility, he will have 4 years to play with his god-brother Harrow, increasing the likelihood that BOTH of them stay all four years. Having him come in next year will space out the scholarships more to provide better/easier scholarship allocation. His presence on NEXT years team will be a lot more impactful than it will be this year and we will go much farther next year than we will this year.

It’s best for all parties involved if Brown comes in next year.

I would much rather be a “POSSIBLE NCAA team and a likely NIT team” this year…thanks. If Lo Brown develops the way we want/hope/need him to the only way he is staying a 4th year is to chase a second NCAA title. Lo Brown not qualifying killed us. If you read my posts you’ll find I am a positive guy, but there are slim to no positives in Lo not qualifying. When it’s crunch time this year and we need a bucket we will be looking to CJ Williams for that bucket. Not having Lo in the line up moved at least 2 other guys out of their natural positions. Screw next year…we needed Lo Brown LAST year. Not one member of our team has his skill set. Not one.

  9. Stateman 10/27/2009 at 4:33 PM #

What are you expecting without Brown? What would you expect if Brown was here. I simply don’t see that much difference in your gain.

It seems to me you stand to gain MUCH more out of Brown’s presence by coming in next year as compared to this year.

  10. Thinkpack17 10/27/2009 at 4:50 PM #

He would be the only member of our team skilled and athletic enough to lead the break AND finish the break. He would allow CJ and Scott Wood to remain at the 3 and Farold to spend limited time at the 2.

But most importantly he would be the only member of our team who could create off the dribble in the half court set. What are we going to do this year if we have to have a bucket? Our best bet is to dump it to Tracy in the post where he will surely be doubled and he will have to trust his teammate and pass out of the double…best case scenerio it goes to CJ Williams or a freshman Scott Wood.

With Lo Brown in the fold we’d have a guy who could get in the paint and create for all 5 positions on the floor, INCLUDING our best player Tracey Smith. It turns Tracey from a passer to a finisher, and we all see that there is the option of Brown finishing himself.

  11. Stateman 10/27/2009 at 6:51 PM #

^well I was trying to ask you something else…

What are your expectations for this year without Brown? W/L’s, place in the ACC tourny, postseason placement.

some might say, Alpha Wolf, that you are a glass half empty kind of guy. But I might say, the water that is in the glass has left a bad taste in your mouth. We are the Washington Redskins of ACC (revenue-generating) athletics.

I’m also tired of the WTNY stuff. Having said that I’ve watched most of the recruits NC State has brought in over the last 12 years or so while they were in HS / AAU. Brown and Harrow are far and away the best guards State has had commit since Corch and Monroe. The only wing player that is in their league was Julius and he was more of a point forward. I understand the frustration and at some point a coach has to produce wins but I believe NC State will finally have the talent that everyone has hoped for next year.

I’ve stopped watching these videos from the Elite camps. They’re all the same. Rap music, dunks, and what looks like to me to be zero defense. I’m as excited about these guys coming to Raleigh as most, but these videos don’t show me much.

  15. VaWolf82 10/27/2009 at 11:13 PM #

but these videos don’t show me much.

Ding, ding, ding….we have a winner. Any kid that earns a scholarship to any Div 1 school can put an impressive highlight reel together. Unfortunately, those videos don’t tell us how a kid is going to do in the ACC.

  16. McPete 10/28/2009 at 7:17 AM #

“Unfortunately, those videos don’t tell us how a kid is going to do in the ACC.”

While rankings aren’t an exact science, a recruiting junkie can tell you more 5 star guys succeed in college than 4 star, 3 star etc. Both Harrow and Brown are classified 5 star recruits by scout.com and Harrow is a 5 star on rivals.com (Brown 4*), so somebody other than state fans and WPH think these two can ball.

The videos are generally silly, though. and terrible music. I remember Roy Mangrum’s highlight video was quite impressive, but he’ll never be delivering those crushing hits in an NC State uniform. These two players still have to show up.

  17. CaptainCraptacular 10/28/2009 at 8:07 AM #

Ok, but you can’t classify someone as “one of the greatest ever in NCSU and ACC history” and then turn around and say they are not NBA ready. Those 2 statements are quite contradictory. If you mention someone in the same breath as a Thompson, Jordan, or Bias then by default that implies they are NBA ready.

” Brown as a freshman this year probably wouldn’t help us win maybe, i’ll say 3 or 4 extra games, which would get us closer to tournament eligibility but is it really worth it in the long run.”

I remember Mebane making this argument last year. It was stupid then and it is stupid now.

  19. Daily Update 10/28/2009 at 8:54 AM #

The significance of Harrow being able to dunk isn’t that he is going to dunk on college forwards and centers in the ACC. The significance is that it proves he has the size and athleticism to finish in the lane because he can get near the rim. It makes him a threat in the lane thus he draws defenders on every drive opening up teammates for his insane ability to pass the basketball. Not to mention, he has a great floater as well.

I saw him in Reynolds this year. I was sold immediately. He dominates the basketball when he has it. He can shoot, he can drive and score in a variety of ways. Not to mention, he can drive and dish.

I think his impact could be very similar to Julius Hodge in that Harrow’s frame (165 lbs) might mean he stays in the ACC for 3+ years. Then again, he might not. With talent around him, he is an immediate program changer with coaching being equal.

Julius Hodge(4 years), Tyler Hansborough(4 years), and JJ Reddick(4 years) all disagree with you.

  21. CaptainCraptacular 10/28/2009 at 9:25 AM #

Julius, Tyler, and JJ wha? They are not remotely in the same class as Thompson, Jordan, or Bias. You know, the best in ACC history. Besides, what’s your point? Tyler for sure and possibly Julius could have gone pro after one year. They wouldve been drafted. The argument was that Harrow would stick around for 3+ years because he wasn’t NBA ready, despite possessing ‘one of the greatest ever’ like skills. If he truly has that skill set, which he does according to stateman-rev-mebane, and knowing the NBA drafts on potential, then it should be acknowledged that one and done is a possibility.

  22. Thinkpack17 10/28/2009 at 9:32 AM #

Julius was advised by many to stay in school even after he won ACC player of the year.

The college game and the NBA are really different games. I don’t care how good your skill set is you are not going to the league at 6 feet 165 pounds. It ain’t happening…I don’t care if you shoot 90% from 3 point range.

You stubbed your toe on this one Captain…you wrong.

  23. Thinkpack17 10/28/2009 at 9:36 AM #

And you are saying JJ, Julius and Tyler are not in the same class as Jordan because of his PRO career. JJ and Tyler undoubtedly had better college carrers than Jordan. Ryan Harrow could be a huge impact player for the pack and still not be a pro prospect.

How long did Muggsy Bogues and Spud Webb play in ‘the league’ again?

  25. Thinkpack17 10/28/2009 at 9:54 AM #

    1. Bogues didn’t leave school early, I’m fairly certain Spud didn’t either.

    2. We aren’t arguing Harrow won’t play in the NBA…we are just saying he will have to stay in school for a while.

    3. They were drafted like 20 freaking years ago. When you were a huge point guard at 6-2, Power forwards were 6-6, and seven footers had the athletism of a UPS truck.

    4. Come on Man!
