ACC Basketball Schedule+

Don’t look now…but the 2009-2010 basketball season is just around the corner.

Thought that you may be interested in an updated release from the conference office that highlights the entire schedule. (Link)

ACC Basketball by the Numbers:

179 – ACC teams are scheduled to make an all-time high 179 appearances on national television networks, including 136 appearances on ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU, 34 on Fox Sports Net, nine on CBS.

92 – Ninety-two of the league’s 96 conference games (96%) are scheduled to be televised. Boston College hosts Miami in the season’s first league game on Dec. 5.

19 – Fox Sports Net and affiliates will televise 19 Sunday afternoon and evening games on a national basis, starting with North Carolina hosting Nevada on November 29. This season, 15 of the 19 FSN Sunday games are conference match-ups.

Additionally, CollegeHoopsnet.com has taken an interesting approach to projecting the season – you can click here to see their “High / Low” for the entire conference.

You can see below how the Wolfpack is positioned as we head into Coach Sidney Lowe’s fourth season.

I’m trying to muster some optimism for hoops this year, but instead I feel the same dread that a fifth grader would sitting outside of the principle’s office.

Another year of lackluster play and poor coaching that I will be forced to watch(home games at least) because I have stoopid LTR’s and it is almost impossible to sell tickets unless it is to the Dook or Carolina games.

Forget the prostate exam, think more in terms of sigmoidoscopy. Though things don’t look great, this is always the part of the season that hope springs eternal, right? As for the direction our team is probably headed, the hope thing is expressed like this…..wish in one hand and piss in the other, see which fills up first.

All of that said, it’s the Wolfpack and I’ll watch. I’m Pavlov’s dog, I’ve been conditioned.

Okay, we’ve absolutely reached the bottom.
According to that article, if we exceed expectations, the freshmen can contribute right away, we get a few breaks, and no serious injuries, we MIGHT finish 11th.

I thought the pre-season is when everyone is undefeated and you dream of glory. We are the preseason pick for the most hopeless team in the league.

“I thought the pre-season is when everyone is undefeated and you dream of glory. We are the preseason pick for the most hopeless team in the league.”

Have you seen our starting 5? That explains the “optimism”

Year 4 of an endless rebuilding campaign. I can hardly wait…..

  7. BJD95 10/06/2009 at 4:08 PM #

We’ll get to see what Smith can do quadruple teamed and without Ben and BC to pass him the ball in scoring position.

I suppose that is interesting, in a very sick and twisted way. I will be watching, b/c I can’t help myself.

And I thought I was depressed Saturday night…

  9. KChill 10/06/2009 at 6:16 PM #

Bet we’ll start better than 3-2.

  10. pack fan 10/06/2009 at 10:48 PM #

I get more excited these days about Wolfpack baseball rather than basketball. I think it starts in Febuary. We should be decent this year. Oh well, Atleast we get to enjoy Russell in another sport.

  11. packalum44 10/07/2009 at 8:51 AM #

Wait just a minute…you’re telling me we have a b-ball team? I thought we retired from the sport in the 80s…I call shenanigans!

  12. bradleyb123 10/07/2009 at 10:48 AM #

    ^^^ “Bet we’ll start better than 3-2.”

Well, looking at records as a percentage of the season, we’ve won 60% of our football games so far, and we’re 41.6% finished with the regular season. To match those same percentages in basketball, we’d have to start approximately 8-5. (We play 31 regular season games, and 41.6% of that is approximately 13 games, and 60% of 13 games is approximately 8 games.)

In looking at our schedule, I think that’s actually doable. But what does that say about our football team?

Anyone read the Simon Harris interview over at Wolfpackhoops? It’s pretty good. Stop over and give it a look.

  14. frankiepack 10/07/2009 at 1:30 PM #

I did read it at wolfpackhoops, but reading things there must be like reading Pravda back in the Soviet Union days.Try to criticize Sid or the program there your post will never get on.
Simon’s Dad is Sid’s right hand man and probably the only reason the kid was on the team.I do not think he would knock either Sid or his Dad.

  15. bradleyb123 10/07/2009 at 1:45 PM #

frankiepack, sometimes the converse seems to be true here. SFN does allow posts supportive of Sidney, but a lot of the people here will sure rip you to shreds if do that.

I think some people have already made up their mind about Sidney, and just want him gone. I’m willing to see what he does another couple of years. Mainly because of the recruiting, but also because if we replace Sidney, I’m not convinced our administration will do what it takes to bring in a sure winner. I’m afraid we’d just replace Sidney with someone else that is cheap and just hope for the best. At least with Sidney, we do have some good players in now, and great promise for players coming in next year, as well.

  16. frankiepack 10/07/2009 at 1:50 PM #

Wow I admire your optimism but a few more years? Promise? Yes I hear that same tune since he has been here.

  17. VaWolf82 10/07/2009 at 2:47 PM #

I’m willing to see what he does another couple of years.

I see that you’ve dropped your old mantra:
Let’s wait and see what he can do with his own guys this year.

  18. bradleyb123 10/07/2009 at 3:56 PM #

^^^ “I see that you’ve dropped your old mantra:”

I dropped that when his best recruit failed to qualify. I still say we HAVE to get Harrow in here. It would be crazy to unload Sid with the recruits he has coming in next year (not to mention the players he has now) and risk losing that momentum, just because some think Sid isn’t getting it done. It took a while to get rolling in recruiting, but he’s there now.

One or two more recruiting battle wins and we have arguably THE best recruiting class in the nation next year. Our recruiting class for 2010 is ranked in the top 5 right NOW. But some want to fire Sidney because he couldn’t do anything with Herb’s players for the last three years. Make sense.

I still have my mantras. I see you still have yours.

And I think I’ve mostly talked about how good we’ll be when Harrow gets here anyway. Unless Javi or Mays is much improved this year. I’ve tried not to say “wait until NEXT year” because that leaves the door open for people to say “that’s what we always say with Sidney”. But it’s true. Ryan Harrow is the kind of pg that can turn everything around for a program. His supporting cast is here now, but realistically won’t do much until he arrives.

I’ve had my share of comments deleted both here and there, still not a bad article. I can’t wait to see what these kids can do.

  20. VaWolf82 10/07/2009 at 6:24 PM #

I still have my mantras. I see you still have yours.

Oh really? Please share a line that I repeat over and over again.

And I think I’ve mostly talked about how good we’ll be when Harrow gets here anyway.

Nope, you’ve said innumerable times, “Let’s wait and see what Sid does with this recruiting class”…even after Brown didn’t qualify. Of course I’ve always expected you to shift from WTNY to WTYAN (wait until year after next). You may have shifted earlier, but today was the first time that I saw it.

From the Lo Brown entry here:
I just say, let’s reserve judgment until we see what Sid DOES this year.

Your mantra is to never speak a positive word about Sidney, and to go after people like me that do.

And I know we need a PG. I think this MIGHT be a good year if Mays or Javi continues the improvement they showed later in the year last year. If not, we have Harrow coming in NEXT year to be the PG we need.

The jury is still out on this year. But I cooled off on our chances this year when Lo Brown failed to qualify. But I think there’s still a chance we’ll be OK anyway. Just less of a chance.

I still believe in two years, people like you will have a lot of words to eat about ole Sidney.

  22. VaWolf82 10/08/2009 at 9:04 PM #

Your mantra is to never speak a positive word about Sidney, and to go after people like me that do.

To be honest, I don’t remember you saying very much positive about Sidney. You mostly seem to complain when ever anyone says something negative about Sidney.

I still believe in two years, people like you will have a lot of words to eat about ole Sidney.

I haven’t said much positive about Sid over the last several years….but I doubt that I’ve said anything that I “will have to eat” either.

  23. bradleyb123 10/09/2009 at 2:52 PM #

^^^ “To be honest, I don’t remember you saying very much positive about Sidney. You mostly seem to complain when ever anyone says something negative about Sidney.”

I haven’t, other than to say I think he has shown signs of learning on the job. I have my doubts about Sidney, but I think he is capable of learning and improving as a coach. It’s our fault for hiring a guy with no college experience and expecting more.

My only real “mantra” has been that we should give him a chance in light of the recruits he’s pulling in. And 2010 is looking like an incredible recruiting class now. But I get beaten up here just for saying we should give Sid a chance. If we didn’t have the recruits we have in 2009 (and 2010), I’d be ready to drop Sidney like a bad habit.

I’m just not convinced that our problems were all his fault, though. I still wonder if Herb’s leftovers were our best and worst players at the same time. I want to see what Sid can do with these players in 2009. I’m sure it can only be so good this year without a top-notch PG and with a bunch of freshmen. But I want to see what Sid does.

And I think he’s worth keeping, if for no other reason, JUST because of the players he’s pulling in now.

^^^ “I haven’t said much positive about Sid over the last several years….but I doubt that I’ve said anything that I “will have to eat” either.”

Looks like you have a safe out. Your posts seem to indicate that you really want him gone. But if and when he succeeds, you can just be a happy fan, glad to have a good coach. Meanwhile, if he falls flat on his face, I’m sure you’ll be the first one to throw it in my face. I think you’ve done that already, like when Lo Brown failed to qualify. I think if you don’t pick a side, you don’t reserve the right to throw it back at me later.

I notice you’ve been absent from the blog about Cothron’s commitment. btw, he said part of what made him commit was that Harrow and Brown were coming next year. And they all love Sidney. Whether or not you want Sidney around, we have the makings of a great team in 2010. And Sidney is the one that is assembling this team. I know, he has good assistant coaches helping him recruit. But these kids like Sidney Lowe. At some point, we have to give him some credit for this.

  24. VaWolf82 10/09/2009 at 3:43 PM #

Your posts seem to indicate that you really want him gone.

I don’t think that I have ever said that. I want NC State to win and to win the right way. If Sid can do that….great. If not, then he needs to be replaced.

I notice you’ve been absent from the blog about Cothron’s commitment.

What do you want me to say? He looks like a good player, but I haven’t read anything that makes me think that he is a program changer.

  25. VaWolf82 10/09/2009 at 3:49 PM #

I think if you don’t pick a side, you don’t reserve the right to throw it back at me later.

This attitude is actually what made the Herb discussions so contentious. My side is NC State’s…not any one coach.
