Volleyball shut out by CAMPBELL – Must be the ‘fuhcilities’

I don’t know what to say. NC State should lose to Campbell in NOTHING. Maybe drop a baseball or softball or volleyball game every now and then; but never lose an actual series or match that drops an “L” in our column.

Campbell shuts out Wolfpack volleybally team

One can only imagine how big of a powerhouse Campbell would be if they had the benefit of calling palace like Reynolds Coliseum home.

Maybe the saddest thing about NC State’s Volleyball program is that it is the only program in ten years that we can identify where Lee Fowler actually chose to make a coaching change without being forced into the change through a departure or by the Board of Trustees. He chose to hire Charita J. Stubbs. This doesn’t seem to be working out all that well.

For a little more on well Stubbs is going over then you can read this entry that is one of our all-time most read.

Remember when Campbell beat the basketball team. There is NO excuse for Campbell to beat NC State in anything. Chess, water polo, NOTHING…

Maybe if Stubbs could take criticism and not call it racism…..

Thank God we don’t have to play the Camels in men’s basketball this season.

Allow me to preface this by saying I have grown up a die hard NC State fan, but completed my undergraduate degree at Campbell. I also worked in the athletic dept. as a student assistant and know that you would like to think that Campbell is a pushover at EVERYTHING. However, I would like to say that as much as you want to say that the Pack should lose to the Camels in NOTHING, please ask the Tar Heels if they know anything about the athletics in Buies Creek. The men’s soccer team at UNX has lost to CU THREE STRAIGHT years (once in Chapel Hill). The Softball program was sent packing in the NCAA Regionals that they were HOSTING in 2008 by the Camels. The UNX baseball team was beat by the Camels in 2007 in their most recent meeting (this was a fluke, by the way, as the Camels posted a blistering 11-45 record that season). Finally, I would like to say that the Camels swept a home and home from the Wolfpack baseball team this past spring. No they can’t hang in football and basketball, but don’t overlook them in ANYTHING ELSE. GO CAMELS!!! GO PACK!!!

Our volleyball team under the past coach lost 71 straight conference games. I don’t know how hard it is to rebuild a program, but our volleyball team is a notch bellow where Duke has been in football since Spurrier left.

Maybe it’ll take a new coach, but right now our volleyball program is beyond awful. Let’s not assume we should beat anyone, because in reality we are among the dregs of college volleyball.

Don’t forget one of his daughters was on the volleyball team at the time he hired the new coach. I’m sure that had nothing to do with it.

  7. 61Packer 08/30/2009 at 1:45 PM #

Our entire Wolfpack athletic program has been just a notch above where Duke has been in football since the 1990s.

Being shut down by Campbell volleyball isn’t anything new for us. Happens all the time in most all of our sports. Right, Jed?

Yes, that is probably a good thing, but we do have UNC-G.

I seem to remember not too awfully long ago a basketball game against them (UNC-G) where we were only a point or two from going down in defeat AT HOME to them (an Anthony Grundy last second shot if I remember correctly).

Well I’ll be happy as long as we see improvement. If we can win one game this year, and 2 games next year, then Stubbs should get a huge raise and be celebrated.

Wufpacker, I was there when Anthony Grundy hit a 10-foot off balance shot, a circus shot from the left corner, and we won by 1 at the buzzer over UNCG. They thoroughly outplayed us for the entire game. And the memories keep flooding back of the home games with Wofford when we trailed the Terriers 20-17 at the half, and when we survived a last-second South Carolina State miss at the buzzer to win by 68-67.

Of course, there are other losses, such as the ones to Campbell and Florida Atlantic (3-27 for the season), but those were at Reynolds. I prefer my basketball memories to be only of games played in the new Fuhcility!

wufpack and 61pack, don’t forget we had an OT game against UNCG only 2 years ago, where Gavin Grant hit a 3 with a few seconds in regulation to send that one into OT.

  12. Wufpacker 08/31/2009 at 2:59 AM #

^ Yes, I had completely forgotten about that one. Not sure if the forgetting is from my developing “oldtimers” disease, or if my subconscious intentionally blocked that one out. Either way its probably for the best. 😉

You would think you would be able to win your own dang Tournament!

So, Go Camels. Congrats on a TOTALLY DOMINATING performance and providing another shining example of LF’s incompetanc.

They are probably going to destroy the NCSU soccer team on Sept. 15th as well. I hope they do.

I am also a dual Alumni of NCSU and Campbell, and have really started to get into Campbell Athletics the last 2-3 years, but as said before “NCSU should lose to Campell in Nothing”. And that’s not to put down Campbell.

  14. Rick 08/31/2009 at 9:20 AM #

My Dad and I were talking last night (6 NCSU degrees in my direct family). Both of us have completely lost any enthusiasm for NCSU athletics.
My comment was Fowler has killed my hope for us to ever be good at anything.

Fowler has been here about ten years? That means he has made over $2M from us.

  15. packpowerfan 08/31/2009 at 2:13 PM #

Wufpacker, that is probably one of a handful of games that I was actually sad we won. I couldn’t believe we had just gone to OT…with UNCG…

  16. hball57 08/31/2009 at 10:24 PM #

Just curious … did you know the volleyball team won 3 conference matches and 9 overall last year? So could you say the current coach is improving the program? Or that the team won 3 of 4 matches over the weekend? Of course not … because the loss was to Campbell. And does anyone know what type of Volleyball program Campbell has? Of course not!

Complain all you want, but why not try a few facts and a little knowledge? I have no problem when you rant against someone, but why not tell the whole story? Why not congratulate the girls for starting 3-1? Or how about a mention of Woman’s Soccer’s start under a new coach? Wow, good news, what a concept!

Driving by here…that Fowler picture with the monkeys is one of my ‘chops from a while back. I DEMAND ROYALTIES!

    j/k

I blame racism for this result.

    Signed,
