No post season of any kind for Wolfpack

Despite all the frustration that many State fans are currently expressing — it is weird to think that had the Wolfpack just hit a couple of missed free throws in the last minute of games against Marquette, Florida and Virginia Tech that we would have been guaranteed an NIT bid and would have entered the ACC Tournament on the NCAA Bubble. Think about that.

It’s the ‘little things’ that make all the difference – and items like free throws, defense, general fundamentals and organizational professionalism are the ‘little things’ that this basketball program needs to improve upon with no time to spare.

Lee Fowler may still believe that he ‘knows basketball’, but he evidently doesn’t know anyone that can get his basketball program into any of the three secondary basketball tournaments being played this year.

It wasn’t a surprise that the Wolfpack wasn’t invited to the NIT. There are actually some pretty good matchups in the NIT.

CBI
The College Basketball Invitational (CBI) – which saw Tulsa defeat Bradley to win year’s inaugural tournament – felt as though it would be natural fit for State’s season to extend. (Link) But, the Wolfpack failed to make the CBI field that included, Stanford, Richmond, Charleston, Troy, St. John’s, Oregon State, Houston, Green Bay, Vermont, Wyoming, UTEP, Northeastern, Nevada, Wichita State, Boise State & Buffalo.

If only those Athletics Directors ‘knew basketball’!

CIT
The new CollegeInsider.com Tournament will not include the Wolfpack. The website for this tournament discusses the event and includes the following that would explain how nothing but mid-majors comprise the field.

Eligible Teams:
Participating teams must finish the regular season with a winning record against division I opponents. Teams whose conferences have less than fifty-percent (50%) of their teams participating in the NCAA and NIT tournaments will be given higher priority for selection into the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament.

Wolfpack_1995 you’ve made my point for me. If we have already invested three years in retooling the program, why in the world would you want to fire the coach one year short of finding out if the new system will function with its own parts and start the whole process of retooling all over again. It doesn’t make sense to fire Sidney and suffer for the next three years while the next coach starts to revamp the program and retool with his own players. Then we can fire him after three more years and begin anew the process of perpetual mediocrity.

I sure have been around the old blog sites and except for a few people most people think that one to two more years with Sidney. There is no bigger fan I grant you (Im sure we all here at STATE say It)than me of STATE but, what I saw the other night at Atlanta spooked the hell out of me. Sidney look lost……. Im not going into the great details we have heard them all before. The only thing I got from it and I hope Im dead wrong is, no matter who we recruit it wont matter. It doesn’t matter because the coaching ability is not there.Do we want to wait 2 more years and then find out we have 5 more after that? I mean im in my 50’s and I dont have all the time in the world to see it happen again. We have this false belief that building something must take 4 or 5 years when in fact a person with good insight can see if it will not happen at all. Oh I know the next question will be well who would we get? Lets see in 1979 we went out and got a nobody but really a somebody only because he was a motivator. You see that is who we get, because if that person has to come in here like someone we all know did and in the 3rd year BOOM!!! then well hell,I rest my case.
I will say this last one thing and leave it at that, its simple. Coach has to know even though he has his strong beliefs, all players dont always practice as well as they play in games knowing the full reason like we dont, given injuries, dog house
or what,he has to save his career doesn’t he think this.I mean
I hear Wulfpaxno1 thinking and like I said in the begining of
my writing alot of people think he should stay out his term
but,is that thinking a miracle is going to happen when he can
not coach to begin with. I love him for what he has done for us
in 1983 and to feel the need to help when everybody turned us
down 3 years ago but I for one STATE FAN DO NOT NEED ANYMORE
PROOF. Thanks for sharing! My name is WOLFPK83 and I do remember.
