NCAA Tourney Thread

Here are your matchups. Unlike in year’s past, I don’t think the committee gave Duke and UNC laughably easy draws to the Final Four. The weakest bracket is the West, where UConn and Memphis should dominate.

I don’t like Arizona as an at-large pick, but am really happy that Penn State didn’t make it (pitiful OOC schedule). Nobody who got left out had a great resume, so not too big a deal. Other than that, I don’t see many bad picks or seedings. Although I certainly don’t understand giving BC and Clemson the same seed.

The credit the big 10 gets is one of the more baffling things I’ve ever seen. Every year the ACC beats them in the ACC-Big 10 challenge, but at the end of every year, the idiots on Sportscenter are talking about how good the conference is and how the ACC is top heavy.

If you want to know what the Big 10 is in basketball, it’s very much like the ACC the last couple of years in football. No great teams – one could argue that there aren’t a lot of good teams – but yet, the committee seems to value conference success in this league.

And the NIT takes a pass on N.C. State University. There you have it.

    what about cbi tourney

  4. wolfpacker420 03/15/2009 at 8:19 PM #

two tourneys left. let’s not give up hope

  5. wolfpackattack89 03/15/2009 at 8:28 PM #

the two tourneys left are jokes. this basketball program is a joke because of lowe. we have the same players from that nice run we had in the acc tourney when we almost upset unc in the finals and then made a nice nit run. they’re all now older and more experienced. there is no excuse why we should not be a top 25 team. it is obvious that the coaching is horrendous

  6. JeremyH 03/15/2009 at 8:32 PM #

wolfpackattack89, your proof is flawed, since we do not have the same players from that nice run.

2009 marks the second annual College Basketball Invitational (CBI) Tournament featuring another 16 deserving teams who do not get the opportunity to play in the NCAA or NIT Tournaments. As a result of the addition of the CBI Tournament and the new CIT Tournament, 129 Division I basketball teams will continue their seasons after the conclusion of conference tournament games and get a chance to play in the postseason. Last season the Tulsa Golden Hurricane knocked off the Bradley Braves in the unique CBI Championship Series, a three-game series between the final two teams to determine the CBI Championship. Tulsa defeated Bradley two games to one to win the inaugural CBI Tournament in 2008. In 2009, the CBI Tournament will reach a larger number of households than in 2008, one of the shortcomings of the 2008 tournament. The Gazelle Group and the College Basketball Invitational announced that they have an agreement with HDNet to broadcast up to 11 of the 2009 CBI Tournament games this year.

it’s not flawed, sure, we’re missing grant and a great point guard in astur, but lowe being one of the best point guards in acc history, he should be able to recruit well there and he has not been able too

It isn’t a matter of if the tournaments are a joke it is about these players having a chance to continue to practice and play again. Almost all the bowls outside of the BCS are a joke but fans would rather go to the ‘weed eater bowl’ on December 15th than to not go to a bowl game at all.

i know what you mean, but i don’t know i just feel different about these basketball tournaments, probably because they’re just so new

NIT – (coach seat tournament)… Davidson in, NCSU (16-14) out. Fells and McCauley played their last game for NCSU in the repeat one and done in the ACC tourney… PLease bring on Football Spring training.

    NIT Selection Committee
    Rudy Davalos
    Don DeVoe
    Gene Keady
    Reggie Minton
    C.M. Newton (Chair)
    John J. Powers
    Les Robinson
    Carroll Williams

Note the second to last name. We didn’t get in, and a former coach and AD was on the committee. Did it help or hurt? Look at some of the teams in the NIT, and tell me we wouldn’t win most. I have a hard time believing that we were not deserving. I think we got screwed, but ultimately you’ve got to win.

Don’t see how Maryland gets in the NCAAT and we don’t get in the NIT.
We split with Miami and they get in the NIT and we don’t. We did beat WF, and for the most part competed with everyone that got into the NCAAT.

Do we lose money by going to the CBI, if we get invited…

  14. Ed89 03/15/2009 at 9:08 PM #

We gave a #1 seed in the NIT a good game at their place (Florida) and we did the same at a #2 seed Va Tech, and we’re not in???

I’m sure Niagara (#3 seed) would have waxed Florida in Gainesville. Yea, right…

  15. wolfpackattack89 03/15/2009 at 9:11 PM #

yeah, i don’t know what’s up with the selection committee for the NIT
We SHOULD of beat both Florida and VT, both probably the best in the tournament, it makes no sense how we’re not in

  16. blackdom 03/15/2009 at 9:12 PM #

We have no right getting into the Nit please over who?

  17. 1.21 Jigawatts 03/15/2009 at 9:15 PM #

It’s easy why they didn’t want State in. They were afraid Costner would damage the courts by dragging his feet up and down them. Plus, if Fells played another game, they didn’t want to take responsibility for him disappearing from existence.

  18. tcthdi-tgsf-twhwtnc 03/15/2009 at 9:17 PM #

State gave almost everyone a good game this year but didn’t win enough. Maybe the younger guys will be ashamed of their performance and will try and finish next year. A few less turnovers, one or two more made free throws or a couple of converted lay-ups and State ends up with a lot better record.

  19. wolfpackattack89 03/15/2009 at 9:18 PM #

does anyone think sidney is gone after next year?
i don’t see us doing any better than an NIT bid next year and that can’t be enough to keep him around

  20. tcthdi-tgsf-twhwtnc 03/15/2009 at 9:22 PM #

I don’t want Sid gone until Fowler is gone. There is no reason to let Sid go and let Fowler do another search. BTW is he still looking for Y’s replacement?

  21. wolfpackattack89 03/15/2009 at 9:24 PM #

that’s a great point, fowler would just hire another bad coach
and i don’t know if he is still looking for a replacement
he’s an idiot though, Y told him so many times that she wanted glance to run the show after she past

    Dear SFN,

Like you, I am disappointed that we did not land spots in the NCAA or NIT tonight. We were SO close, especially with all those other ACC teams chosen. But all is not lost this season. Two more tournaments, The CBI (Clampett Bullshit Invitational) and the CIT (Clampett Ignoramus Tournament), have yet to announce their selections. With 9 ACC teams already in the post-season, I reckon that one of these outstanding tourneys will see the value of having another ACC team in their field.

Sid and I will be by the phones all night to relay any breaking news to you as soon as we get it. Exciting times are in store for Wolfpack basketball; the best is yet to come.

    Sincerely,
    Jed

I just searched CBI, and the website said that 2009 CBI Tournament would not be played. At least we don’t have to endure the humiliation of not being invited.

  24. Ed89 03/15/2009 at 9:36 PM #

I’ll go on record, and say I think we’ll be an NCAA team next year. I think we’ll finish around 4th-6th in the ACC with some good wins. Look at who we lose, and look at what the rest of the teams in the ACC lose. Look at the players we have coming in, and look at who some others have coming in (I know UNC has the #1 class)…Ours is a good class. the 3 we know about and 2 to be announced within a month or so. I figured I would provide some optimism in this blog. BUT, I really believe what I wrote in my first line. We’ll see.

  25. wolfpackattack89 03/15/2009 at 9:42 PM #

who knows how we’ll fare next season
i think we’ll be better, but i don’t know how much better
