I love the past, because it’s the one thing that can’t be taken from us.

Pride, hope, success – well, those are a different story altogether.

    Hey we are due?

And to think that it has not been that long ago that we were neck and neck with UNC in both conference and national titles and Duke was third. It shows what effective leadership both in administration and on the court can achieve. Also, the ironic thing is that NCSU was the birthplace of bigtime basketball in the South. Case, as we all know, got the ball rolling. UNC had to counter with McGuire. Duke turned to a State man named Bubbas to turn their program around. The foundation, although an increasing weak one is there. I hope our basketball program can right the ship before it completely goes under. Case, Sloan, V, Yow. We need help. Please help now!

I agree RSP and recruits these days don’t care about ancient history when most weren’t even born. They care about winning now and going to an elite program that can help them get to the next level. We haven’t had that since V and it’s a shame that there is no light at the end of the tunnel for State bball.

Ahh numbers, they are what they are. They do not lie. They can be manipulated and twisted … but they do not lie.

I am hoping that even now that karma is setting itself upon the faculty and administration – even if only in small, subtle ways. Ohh and Todd Turner. That guy too.

The past 20 years of “zero” ACC & NCAAT championships is probably something our Chancelor, BOT, and Univ. admins relish.

I bet Lee has a poster proclaiming the “Irrelevance” of our program since 1989.

Larry Monteith, CD Spangler, Todd Turner, and Erskine Bowles are quite happy!

I just took the time to read through Foul-up’s bio on GoPack.com (most definitely the crown jewel of athletic sites)

The first couple of sentences alone are enough to generate knee slapping, out loud laugher. They will also make you want to throw a brick at anything within striking distance.

Something else I was thinking about.
How long has it been since there was an ACC title game without UNC or Duke? It has to be 20 years or more.

  9. BJD95 03/18/2009 at 9:10 AM #

I think there was a GT/UVA final when I was in college.

  10. wufpup76 03/18/2009 at 9:13 AM #

^I think that’s it, BJD … GT over Bryant Stith and UVa.

    I’ll check …

Edit: 1996 – Wake Forest over GT

To further prove that we’ve fallen far behind, look at this list of Southern Conference Titles between the Big Three.

    Southern Conference Championships
    NC State: 7 (1929,1947,1948,1949,1950,1951,1952)
    UNC-CH: 5 (1922, 1934, 1937, 1946, 1949)
    Duke: 5 (1938, 1941, 1942, 1944, 1946)

Since our last title in 1987, there have been 22 champions – Duke with 10 (8 of the last 11), UNC with 7, Georgia Tech & Wake with 2 and Maryland with 1. This is what can happen when you give 2 teams a National Television Network (ESPN) and a helpful conference office.

The Virginia coaching search will be interesting to follow. UVA is a great school with a fantastic new facility. But everyone considering the position knows full well that it will be an uphill battle to recruit a great player from Richmond if Duke & UNC goes after them hard in the current environment. They also saw what happened to Virginia Tech in the ACC tournament.

Nitpicking a bit – it looks like Frank McGuire’s should be 1/USC and 1/UNC.

That Lee Fowler bio inspired the exact emotions and response predicted. That is quite a read. No need to use any humility in your “bio” when you are basically posting a job resume on the university website. And I suppose a “resume” can work in one of two ways: get someone else to hire you or get a raise.

Well it is the first time I post here, though I have been visiting the site for at least 3 years.

I don’t know why, but I am a state fan, dont have relatives that have been there, and I live in Chile 15.000 Km from Raleigh. The only thing my daddy (South Carolina grad) said to me do you want to see real BB and he took me to an ACC game. State vs. Maryland, neither team was very good that year. About 1997, but the place was full and coming from so far and being crazy for BB at that age (12) It was the closest thing to paradise, from that day on..only state

Any how, I have read everything about the tradition, and if for me the situation is depressing I imagine what it must be for someone with real ties to N.C. State,

I hope that someday we get out from this hole and I am sure will do…

    in the meantime..

    After reading this post.

and checking into Lee’s Biography, I must say the best thing about him, with all due respect are his daugthers that are damn pretty.

One final point, what made me a State fan was Reynolds, the athmosphere, the colors , the noise. In other words, passion. I bet is easy being a duker or UNC fan, you always win, everything is in your favor, but State is passion and when you win, you enjoy two times more.

wow.. nothing about winning championships, but about facilities?? that is a frickin joke and embarrassment. “Hey, we suck at winning but we have damn fine facilities”

  16. Cardiac95 03/18/2009 at 1:29 PM #

Could anyone have ever imagined this in 1989?

  17. kc.11 03/19/2009 at 12:09 AM #

…Hold that line, hold ’em fast,
    We’ll reach victory at last
We’re behind you, keep fighting for State…

I just keep hoping this is true. There’s marked improvement (though not as much as anyone would like) from last year, but that’s definitely not a Lee Fowler thing.
