Not the best looking game but we were able to pull it out.
Even got to clear the bench.
I imagine Mays and Ferg hate to play at that point. Almost an insult really.

Big time win!! Gotta get the turnovers down, but great to see the Pack win going away

  3. MrPlywood 02/14/2009 at 3:36 PM #

A 21 point win on the road in just the type of game State has had trouble with, after a big win the other night…

    I’m good, whatever the shortcomings…

Great win. Nice to see such balanced scoring and nice to see Javi get his confidence back.

That three point play should make sports center but ah hell were N.C. State so they probably won’t show it.

Alright! A true road win over an ACC opponent!

Yeah it was Georgia Tech – but so what! They’d actually been playing pretty tough lately …

We commit 20+ turnovers and win by 21!

Great win guys! 2 in a row even!

    Winning is fun …

Just saw where Smith finished with another double-double … Highly efficient offense today, and probably most important our asses didn’t entirely tighten up while ahead down the stretch – we stayed aggressive!!11111!!

Great effort on both side of the ball today. The combo guard situation seems to be working much better. Not good for Mays and Ferg but a win is a win.

Very Nice TEAM win. Tech made their run and the team responded by extending the lead again. Nobody seemed to panic when Tech cut it to 3. Very nice to see that. Maybe they’ve got that monkey off their back, so to speak.

Bottom line…a very nice conference ROAD win.

  8. Afterglow 02/14/2009 at 3:43 PM #

That was a nice game! Good guard play. Nice support off of the bench. Fells played well and didn’t try to do too much. We didn’t bow our lead. A road win after a big win against Wake. I’ll take it and would like some more please.

If we could figure out a way not to turn the ball over we may actually have to register the pack as a lethal weapon.

    GO PACK!!!

How large does that VPI loss loom now?

  10. wufpup76 02/14/2009 at 3:45 PM #

Sidney Lowe on radio postgame saying last timeout was specifically called to re-instill aggressive mentality to guys down the stretch … Admitted we were starting to get passive again – nice to hear

Commending McCauley for imploring teammates down the stretch to stay aggressive – Coach Lowe saying he didn’t have to do it from the sideline b/c there was a leader on the floor

Commends the bench for being so pivotal today

was the team in red really NC State? all that good ball movement didn’t seem like us. in the first half, we played as good as we ever had (at least, after the 1st 5 minutes). this win – esp. after a big win against wake – is something to take note of. another plus is that the basketball team seems to be getting better as the season moves on – this is all that i’m expecting out of this year. steady improvement. esp. the point guards have been improving. imagine what sidney could do with a highly talented point guard! great win! i’m sorry i’m going to miss the rest of the season now:(

one more thing… i believe that the big 3 – mccauley, cosner, and fells will be sorely missed next year – i expect us to be worse next year. those guys are quite talented.

Great – get to watch PEBBLE BEACH PRO-AM instead of Florida St.-Wake Forest

    yay

“Not good for Mays and Ferg but a win is a win.”

I suppose the nice thing is, we know what they are capable of and contributions (big ones) aren’t unthinkable from these two-especially down this last stretch. I’m sure they’re still hungry and there’s still some more to eat.

LRM, The VaTech loss may have actually woke us up. We have played pretty well since that meltdown. I am not sure we could have handled Wake coming off a win at VaTech.

Tracy Smith is developing nicely. He is a very productive player in terms of points and rebounds per minute.

Javi is surprising me. I gave up on him a few weeks ago, but he has shown promise lately.

I hope John Wall is watching.

    Go Pack!!

it’s really nice to see this team showing real improvement!

    Great win, fellas! (and Sid)

Very proud of the effort today, to fight through a slump and several mental lapses, keeping their composure to win on the road.

Who knows if this team rallies as it did without the VT loss? Our ceiling has always been the NIT anyway, so I’m not worried about past defeats anymore. We are clearly on track for the NIT now.

  17. packpowerfan 02/14/2009 at 3:50 PM #

First you lose by a little (VT), then you win by a little (WF), then you win by a lot (GT). Bobby Bowden is right.

  18. wufpup76 02/14/2009 at 3:51 PM #

^Fergs has always kept a good head on his shoulders and plays hard whenever he does come in regardless of prior playing time … Hope Mays takes notice and does the exact same thing – and Thomas as well

They have all been key performers for us at various points in the season and who knows when we’ll need them again – and I suspect we will

Now if we could just get Tracy to catch the ball consistently down low 😉

  19. PAJ 02/14/2009 at 3:53 PM #

Must have been hard for you to type that one, BJD95. Still think this is a death spiral?

BJD: Not hard at all. I hope to be wrong on that count, and like it when I’m given reason to be positive.

  20. Afterglow 02/14/2009 at 3:55 PM #

Javi impressed me as well. He made a couple of bad passes but over all, he played nicely. Degand did well too; although it drives me nuts when he dribbles into the corner over by the bench rather than taking it straight up the middle. I don’t know if Lowe is telling him something or if there’s something over there that he likes or what… but it’s a bit annoying and never seems to lead to good things.

Texas – Colorado tied under a minute to play on espn for anyone interested

  22. com state10 02/14/2009 at 3:59 PM #

Excited to see what our offense has turned into recently, great stats in the earlier thread about Degand.

It is starting to look like the offense that was so efficient in Sid’s first year with Atsur always getting the ball up to the top of the key and let the offense run from there with everybody moving around, waiting patiently for the right shot, and knocking down open looks.

Turnovers continue to be a problem but love the amount of guys that were in double figures today.

The thing that really continues to scare me is our slow and sluggish starts at the beginning of each half. Good win though and nice to actually put one away and not have to worry about it

Can’t wait for Wednesday!!!! GO PACK!!!

  23. wbnation 02/14/2009 at 3:59 PM #

In the last 4 games this team has been up by 20 on all 4. Thats got to say something about what this team is capable of. The biggest thing this team needs to overcome is “focus”. Everything else seems to be coming along nicely, we are rebounding way better, the defense has been good most of the year, and scoring doesn’t seem to be a problem. Its the turnovers that are holding this team back, and most of those turnover are just lack of focus for minutes at a time. If they can begin to keep it for 40 minutes this team could be both dangerous in the ACC tournament and the NIT. Great win today and when I said after the VT game that I hate this team passionately, it was my heart talking plus after witnessing this team live Wednesday night, I think this team with focus could do some damage to most teams not named Duke or Carolina.

  24. LRM 02/14/2009 at 4:01 PM #

It’s a major “what-if,” but if we’d held off VPI and still beat WF and GT, we’d be 5-5 with a very realistic shot of raising that cieling above the NIT. And that’s frustrating.

Wins like the one against WF Wednesday night only reinforce the dichotomy of the State Fan. My first thought was, if we could somehow build on this, win 5-of-7 (which would require an upset of two of Carolina, Wake, and/or FSU) to finish 8-8 and then pull off one — two, for good measure — in the tournament, then we would be in the conversation for the Dance.

    Then I scorned myself.

This is truly a “BREAKTHROUGH” WIN. Just a few minutes here and there of bad play. Yet Easily the best EFFORT I have seen this Season from the the PACK. I mean down the stretch, we held our own with no problems. WOW, What a turnaround in less than a week. If we can hold this intensity against the HOLES, we could have a realistic chance to BEAT THEM and possibly be looking at an NCAA Berth if we can play like this through the stretch-run of the season. This team appears to have finally maybe be turning the corner.

This is amazing to me: A few weeks ago I was writing Javi off to transfer out of here, now I find myself “Eating CROW”. The Point Guard play has been key no doubt.(Javi might make the top ten plays of the day with that 3 point play). Degand and Javi seem to be playing with a different purpose as opposed to earlier games. How key is Tracy Smith in all this(Nice to see him finally getting the minutes). CJ has been a major factor the last couple of games.

I dont want to jinx the team and talk too good about them but damn, what a turnaround since VT game. I credit our COACH Sidney LOWE for this turn for the better.

One thing is for sure. When u Read the papers tomorrow, they cant fault GT for having a bad streak of games. The only thing I could see is “PACK ON A ROLL!!!!”

It was good to be able to watch this one on the TV today, instead of the INTERNET.

I think we have officially clawed our way out of that “BOTTOM TIER of ACC TEAMS”.

I told a fellow friend of mine and pack fan after the WAKE game that the first half was about as good of basketball as I had seen played by the PACK in a long time.

GOPACK and I havent abused alcohol(see VT thread where I slammed half empty to full beers aginst the floor and brick wall) since the VT Game. No sense in wasting good cold ones over a basketball game, right????

    GOPACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
