Pack Baseball Set For 3 With Hofstra

The baseball team is back in action this weekend as Hofstra drops in for a 3 game set. The team sits at 3-2 now after dropping their first two games. Jake Buchanan was solid Wednesday in 3-1 win versus Elon.

I know I promised a baseball preview last Sunday- work did not cooperate. My apologies if anyone was anxiously awaiting that. Fortunately, this weekend will be light so that will be put together at some point. One of the highlights of the preview will be the expected impact of this year’s freshman class– Pratt Maynard has already been stellar this year. Gilheeney and Sogard will start the first two games this weekend. The third starter is to be announced, although I would guess it will be one of the newcomers. As for the lineup, expect some tinkering through the first 15-20 games. As was the case last year, this squad will probably drop some headscratchers early. Remember not to hit the panic button too early in baseball. A 13-7 start would be fine (I do anticipate better though).

The Pack 9 really need a sweep this weekend after stinking it up last weekend.

Sweeps are nice… winning series is the important thing. I’d qualify your statement as “components of the bullpen” stinking it up last weekend. There were many, many bright spots. As happened last year, the bullpen will be shortened when the starters get stretched out and more wins should follow.

I understand that Wilson will not be playing much baseball at all this year…at least until Spring Practice is done.

Have you heard anything about that, Badger?

DBP: Nothing officially. The last I’ve heard is to expect him to eventually play 3rd and DH. He’ll be 100% when he does get cleared, as- unlike in football- there isn’t a great need to get him on the field (even with as much potential as he has). He’d be a great “deadline pickup” when the latter stages of conference play and the tournys start.

    Ky,

Please note that it is customary for southern schools to host anybody and everybody from the north in early spring as they make the swing south.

I think UCLA was the last team of note a couple of years ago to come into Doak during the cold weeks.

ACC schedule stands on it’s own merit come tourney time.

Plus ya never know what your getting when the shippers come to town. Well, that’s not entirely true…most D1 teams have someone that played over the summer with or against
    somebody on the opposition.

You might be surprised how ecclectic or at least familiar the baseball fraternity is.

Mesmerizing game against Akron–31 strikeouts in 18 innings for a new NCAA record (SectionSix with details: http://sectionsix.blogspot.com/2009/03/baseball-wins-longest-game-in-school.html). Not bad for what was, in effect, a pickup game.

Any chance of a new thread for the start of the ACC season tomorrow? In talking with a few Miami fans, they all seem to be worried about having this series to kick things off–play to potential and we could take 2 out of 3 down there.
