#3 UNC Outscores Wolfpack, 89-80

  NCSU (14-10) 36 44 80
#3 UNC (24-2) 39 50 89

Carolina was too much for NC State to handle last night in Chapel Hill last night, and they handed the Wolfpack an 89-80 loss.  The Wolfpack played well in the first half of the game, holding the #3 Heels to only a three-point 39-36 lead at the halfway mark, but in the second stanza, Carolina’s multiple threats were able to out-gun State.

“This time,” Wolfpack guard Javi Gonzalez said, “at least it was pretty close the whole game.”  Unfortunately for the Wolfpack team and its fans, it wasn’t close enough by the final buzzer.  Still, Gonzalez had a point — Carolina blew out NC State in the RBC Center on January 31st by a 93-76 count that wasn’t even that close.  Last night Carolina had to work harder for the win, and the Wolfpack has  clearly shown some improvement since the first meeting — but the contest last lnight also showed how far it NC State to go last night until it can compete with and defeat an elite team like UNC.  Progress has been made, sure, but there is much more progress left to be made.

Wolfpack head coach Sidnet Lowe said in the post-game interview that his team “came out with good energy and kept ourselves in the ballgame. I thought our guys gave a pretty good effort, but we turned it over a couple of times crucially and gave them an opportunity to get out and run on us.”  In the end, that made the difference for the upstart Wolfpack.

Carolina improved to 12-1 against the Wolfpack since Roy Williams took over at his alma mater before the 2003-04 season.

I had luck with the game thread last Wednesday… why not try it again?

It’s scary how much better we look with Javi out there than Degand. Degand has looked like crap. I was relieved to see Sid hook him and put Javi back in the game. I never, ever thought I’d say that. But Javi is just better right now. That kid must have worked his ass off to get better.

Good first half. Make the layups and we lead. I am listening on 101.5. I have not watched since the VA Tech 2nd half meltdown. We seem to play better when I don’t watch, so I decided not to jinx our team tonight by watching. I will listen for the rest of the season if we keep winning!

It would be nice if Courtney Fells would

    WAKE THE F*** UP

What’s wrong with you? YOU ARE A SENIOR

I love you, but it’s past time to get going … We are in this game and need you to perform in order to win

(Ok, I know he’s not going to get this message – but I hope it somehow magically impressed upon him at halftime)

2 game threads is too much to keep up with. I’ll stick with BadgerPack’s. Please consolidate if possible.

    GO PACK!!

It is just amazing to see such a confident Javi.

Fells pulling a Houdini once again.

  12. Dr. BadgerPack 02/18/2009 at 8:47 PM #

wufpup– I do like Fells’ 4 blocked shots. At least he isn’t letting the lack of offense distract him on the other end.

This thread needs to do a Vulcan mind-meld with the other thread

If Fells would play worth a flop we might have a chance.
My guess is we will collapse around the ten minute mark.

    ^^Good point, Dr. BP

Javi won’t keep this up second half, it’s just impossible.

Fells & McCauley need to show up 2nd half.

I closed the other thread so everyone could focus on this one.

And I know somebody already mentioned this, but Green walked a mile on that fast break attempt that wound up out of bounds to the Holes …

What happens on the ensuing inbounds play? Green for 3

    ouch

  20. old13 02/18/2009 at 8:51 PM #

Could we have already played our “bad half!”

  21. Rick 02/18/2009 at 8:51 PM #

Any reason no one uses the chat feature?

  22. MrPlywood 02/18/2009 at 8:53 PM #

Javi may not be able to keep it up the hot shooting, but he could use the outside threat to open up the D and start driving and dishing more.

  23. wufpup76 02/18/2009 at 8:54 PM #

“Any reason no one uses the chat feature?”

Speaking only for myself, I am too lazy and don’t want to miss anything here … Just me personally, but I prefer scrolling through the comments … fwiw

BTW – the Thompson/Jordan vote is a complete farce. There’s no comparison.
