Quick reference Pack players in the NFL

While the holidays are in full effect, we thought we’d point you to this excellent reference page that lists NC State alums’ in the NFL:

Pro Football Reference: NC State

I especially found references to the old-school players whose names are on Carter-Finley Stadium’s Ring of Honor fun to look at.  For example:

Dick Christy

Richard Joseph Christy

Position: HB
Height: 5-10    Weight: 191 lbs.
Born: November 24, 1935 in Philadelphia, PA
College: North Carolina State

1-time Pro Bowler

Drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the 3rd round (27th overall) of the 1958 Draft.

Enjoy.

Kind of a thread highjack, but former NC State head coach and current TB Bucs defensive cord. Monte Kiffin is joining his son Lane at UT to be the Vols’ DC.

I was at State when Kiffin was there… he was a kind of a dufus and over his head. But he had done well since when given specific charge of “Ds”. I hope he does well at UT, except if or when they play the Pack.

Roman Gabriel, Bert Wilder and Claude Gibson were drafted by two teams…how does that happen? There were all in 1961 or 1962.

CarnifeX… Old AFL vs NFL (premerger).

we’ve seen our share of sunglasses and shoes.
not to mention totally red or multi-plaid jackets
at courtside.some sang the National Anthem
and some suck….as i tell my son
(and ya’ll knows how that goes)
    it’s WINS/Victories/Championships
    that count. Not Second Place.
and definitely NOT a Good Loser.
    Plaid wins if Plaid wins.

Phillip Rivers is getting ALOT of love from the talking heads right now. I heard one say he should get consideration for POY if the Chargers win the AFC West on Sunday. Of course, he would already have that wrapped up if his name was “Manning”…
32 TD’s and 11 INT’s? Give me a break. A blind man could see what he brings to a team.

  6. redfred2 12/26/2008 at 11:19 AM #

    “32 TD’s and 11 INTS?”

Yeah but, you don’t really think the “experts” can just concentrate on the stats and the results for the SD Chargers, while at the same time overlooking that unorthodox throwing motion, do you?

    testing 1,2,3

  8. redfred2 12/26/2008 at 11:23 AM #

^Just checking to see if I was still “redfred”, or if I was now “undefined”.

  9. Alpha Wolf 12/26/2008 at 11:43 AM #

^ You look like RedFred to me.

We upgraded WordPress this morning to the latest-and-greatest, so that might be it.

I knew it was redfred when he had three posts in a row

  11. cowdog 12/26/2008 at 4:15 PM #

Is it safe….? That’s Ok Redfred I was a UFO for a time today, too.

Johnofsparta…your Monte post reminds me of a joke when beef supply was in possible jeopardy.

Two bovine where chewin’ cuds one day when one says to the other,
” Hey. What do you think about this mad cow disease?”

    “….What the hell do I know about it? I’m a helicopter. “

Ok, somebody ‘splain this one to me. How did Bert Wilder get drafted in 1962 when he played for State 64-67? That tripped me up cause he was playing for State when I was there so I had to go back and read the post.

  13. wufpup76 12/27/2008 at 1:34 PM #

Forgive the OT post – but defense is entirely optional in Charlotte today …

5 TD’s in the 1st quarter between WVU and Chapel Hole

21-14 WVU w/ 2:00 min left in the 1st quarter … not half, quarter

Ohh, and Miami is rebounding from that home drubbing at the hands of Clemson in basketball … The Canes are up by 13 w/ about 5:00 left against St. John’s playing in the garden

    Thread Hijack Alert!

I know it is off topic but UNC just lost to West Virginia! I normally cheer from ACC teams in Bowl games but draw the line with UNC. Just need Philip to win tomorrow and the Wolfpack to take care of business on Monday for a perfect weekend!!

    Go Pack!!!

Awesome! Holes lose in the final minute with an interception by Yates stamped, mailed, and delivered right into the numbers of the linebacker! That WV team was undersized. If this is any indication of the Big East in general, I think we should beat up on Rutgers. Butch actually coached pretty well today, the best I’ve seen all season. This feels great. 1 point loss is so sweet.

  16. highstick 12/27/2008 at 4:19 PM #

But what’s their excuse? Who cheated? Who robbed them???

  17. cowdog 12/27/2008 at 4:46 PM #

Are you kiddin’ me Highstick!!? Did you in blurred vision not see that Draughn’s shoulders were clearly, almost, touching the turf on that piss poor call of a fumble???!!!

I, too, feel somehow wrong when I can’t roll with all ACC teams during bowl season. But dammit they somehow bring it out themselves.

  18. wufpaxno1 12/27/2008 at 5:36 PM #

Butch is beginning to remind me more and more of our former head coach with respect to his showmanship. Those pants that the Holes were wearing were God Awful. The man can flat out recruit but his coaching is questionable at best.”Butch actually coached pretty well today, the best I’ve seen all season.” Which puts him about 3 levels below TOB. Why the Hell did he waste his last timeout after they held WVU on third down with 3:35 left on the clock? Absolutely moronic!!! Don’t get me wrong, I love that they lost, but I hate to see stupid coaching. All UNC needed was a field goal and you are going to need that time out if you get in field position with seconds left, or if you get sacked with time running out, or if you throw an interception with 1:50 remaining on the clock. But man, he sure can recruit can’t he? Never mind that he does not understand who his rivals are, fine by me.. Revelations 41-10.

  19. Packster 12/27/2008 at 6:12 PM #

Heels lose! How wonderful. Anyone that thinks they are better than us is just flat out nuts. They choked in the clutch. WVU gave them every chance to win the game and they just couldn’t do it. Really stupid calls by both coaches to include going for it on 4th down by each team. We are going to continue to own the UNX regardless of how we do in our bowl game!

  20. highstick 12/27/2008 at 7:19 PM #

Cowdog, I watched it for a while in the first quarter and saw no sign of defense on either team so I left and did something worthwhile….like taking all of the cardboard and beer cans to the recycling center!

I knew I would miss a bad call though!!! LOL!!!

  21. choppack1 12/27/2008 at 11:32 PM #

The Miami Hurricanes are guilty of possibly the worst clock management I’ve ever seen in my life. Ridiculous.

  22. packalum44 12/28/2008 at 9:52 PM #

In b-ham downtown right now…not too many Rutgers fans. This looks to be a home game!!! Rutgers is the best team we’ve played in a while and vice versa. I hope TOB out coaches the competition.
