John Wall to visit Duke this week

A couple of days after we told you that Duke was going to make a big push for John Wall…

John Wall, the No. 1 basketball recruit in the nation, will likely take an unofficial visit to Duke later this week, possibly when the Blue Devils play Lenoir-Rhyne in an exhibition Wednesday. The 6-foot-4 Wall showed some interest in Duke this past summer and the coaching staff recently reached out to the people in his inner circle. Duke pulled his transcripts and was pleasantly surprised.

Was Duke’s staff not expecting John to have good grades?

Ugg. Can someone show him Shav’s NBA highlight reel ASAP????

    GAWolf,

That’s probably not a game we want to play with Duke considering NC State’s current representation in the NBA.

Oh joy, at least we can expect full media coverage on this one.

“Duke pulled his transcripts and was pleasantly surprised.”

As I’m sure some negative posters on this very site
    would be as well.

    I hate duke so much.

    John Wall’s mom disapproves.

We should all show up to the Lenoir-Rhyne game in Wolfpack red, and turn it into an NC Pep Rally! How sick would that be, NC State fans recruiting Wall at a Duke game!!

To be the Man, you have to beat the Man.

You can’t just quietly hope that the Man doesn’t go after what you want.

    Dear John,

We were just kidding about you being a dumb ass. It’s not that we actually thought you were dumb, we just didn’t look into the grades of the number 1 point guard in the nation. Are you really that good? Wow, we missed the boat on that one. Now that you are our fallback…errr, number 1 choice, we think you are smart enough to handle the work at Duke. Of course, we are still evaluating so don’t expect an offer any time soon. We just want to string you along in case a better option arises. Especially since your grades are still in question….errr, I mean good to go.

I know Sidney’s been on you since you were in diapers and I know that NC State thinks you are a great option on and off the court but that’s cow college over there not Duke. By the way, how do these argyle socks look with my wool blazer?

    Sincerely,

    Coack K

Ryan Kelly is in his ear, but so is CJ Leslie. They may not suit up again but Leslie looks the part of full package while Kelly might just end up apart of a team with 7-8 McD’s AA that leave you with a “did they just almost fall to Belmont” kind of feeling.

I would bet that his visit at Duke doesn’t go as well as his visit went at NC State….I have a gut feeling that we are in it and we will get John…

If Duke is courting him, even half-assed, he’ll go there.
Gee, Duke, with gold medal coach and three national championships, ESPN fellatio, and every game on TV — or State, one Sweet 16 appearance in the past 20 years and half its games on ESPN360?
If you’re 18 and thinking you’re lottery pick, which do you choose?

  14. phillypacker 11/04/2008 at 11:58 AM #

I don’t think Wall is so worried about ESPN blah, blah, blah. He wants a good coach and a situation that could lead somewhere. With the recruits State has coming in and Sidney’s coaching ability, that is definitely the case. I give the kid much more credit. And his mom.

I hope you’re right, just a little bitter right now.

That comment says it all. First, if I were John Wall, I would take it for the elitist type statement that it is. Secondly, I’d be thinking, WTF? Why wouldn’t you have already checked out my grades? And thirdly, why would I want to be your second choice where I can go to a school (NCSU) that really wants me and has already shown the love? Hopefully, John will think along these lines and join Sid and boys.

Sid is in great shape with Wall & Favors. Favors should decide soon. If we miss on Favors, look for us to offer another big.

My point about Shav is that he is a Raleigh kid who shunned State (when we really wanted him) for Duke (when they sort of wanted him). He could have been a super star here and there he was a role player at best. His luster slowly faded to nothing at least partly because he went to Duke. (And he was overrated, but there’s no reason to bring facts into this.) Anyway, I was not comparing Duke guys in the pros versus NC State guys in the pros… rather I was comparing one Raleigh kid to another Raleigh kid who both had the option of going to Duke and NC State.

you guys are funny, you worry too much. John is just considering going to Duke for his MD-Phd, he will do his undergraduate work at NC State College.

  20. kyjelly 11/05/2008 at 7:55 AM #

No one knows and as I said before if Wall wants to stay home he would come here. But with duke in the mix it presents another option.

  21. GoldenChain 11/05/2008 at 11:09 AM #

I’m shocked that K would go after the #1 recruit in the country.
(I’m actually more shocked that he’s actually considering the Pack!)

  22. redfred2 11/05/2008 at 6:02 PM #

GC, yours is another of those mindsets that needs a little adjustment. Sidney Lowe is out there working hard, he’s ALREADY convincing these very talented kids to at least give NC State some very serious consideration. What would really be nice, and what I’m sure Coach Lowe would really appreciate about right now, is for his own fanbase to start believing that he is doing these things for a university that is deserving of these type of kids/BB players.
