Lowe comments on trip to Toronto

Gopack.com’s Tim Peeler posted a very good interview of Sidney Lowe after the basketball team’s trip to Toronto for two exhibition games this past weekend. As you might expect, there were no questions or comments about Ben McCauley not being allowed to make the trip with the team.

GoPack.com: Is it safe to say you are pretty energized by what you saw?

Lowe: It was just fun to watch these guys. No one cared about anything. No one complained about anything. All the guys were together. It was positive, positive, positive. It wasn’t about “me.” One of the biggest compliments we had was when another coach came up to me and said “You guys really look like a disciplined team.” That’s a great compliment for a team that has been together for eight to 10 days. They are buying into what it takes to win. They are sticking together, not complaining, not worried about themselves or who is starting. Dennis Horner could start for us, but he has accepted his role of coming off the bench. He had a big game for us. We have talked about this before when people say our chemistry is good. All that means is that everyone is accepting their roles. That’s chemistry. Right now, we have a great chemistry.

^^^ I believe Scott Wood is severely underrated. Apparently that kid has a cannon like that white kid from Clemson and can knock it down from all over the court. Except, unlike Oglysby (whatever), he can defend and do things OTHER than shoot.

Lowe does inspire confidence. He has a very assuring matter. Like I’ve said, he obviously does very well in interviews – you don’t get 2 NBA head coaching jobs and college coaching gig in the ACC if you don’t impress those doing the hiring.

And yes, I think that it is translating in the living rooms of these kids as well.

Lots of questions marks coming into this year. His recruiting has probably guaranteed him another year unless we see very uninspired play – again. I’m not sure how to take what’s going on w/ Ben – there’s always two sides to each story. If Lowe turns this thing around, it’s likely a Ben thing…if Lowe doesn’t, well, maybe Ben’s actions will kind of serve as a huge red flag something was fundamentally missing that keeps this guy from being an effective head coach. (Of course, these situations aren’t necessarily related either…interpersonal relationships can be a tricky thing.)

I hear every off-season how this or that player was seen around campus and looks like a entirely new person, and I hear every off-season positive comments coming from various players/coaches along the lines of “we’ve got a whole new attitude now.” Then the season comes and it’s the same old same old. I learned about 10 years ago not to get my hopes too high.

Kenny Inge has been shooting 1,000 3-pointers a day and is money from behind the arc. He’ll be playing PG this year.

WRT to Scott Wood and Oglesby…Scott Wood is 6’6″ and Oglesby is 5’11” – nuff said. I can see Scott Wood being a Vinny Del Negro type player.
