God Almighty lashes out at State, again. Part MMXIII (Updated 5:10pm)

sigh...

As usual, we State fans “will get nothing and like it!”

Two noteworthy items from this week’s coaches presser:

1. Daniel Evans to start against William & Mary.
2. Anthony Hill is out with a chest injury.

Lord have mercy on our souls. Please.

Additionally, Coach O’Brien has announced the depth chart for Saturday’s game against William & Mary. You will note that Jamelle Eugene is also absent.

This means that in the second game of the season, NC State will take the field without SIX of our twenty-two starters for the year. And, these aren’t just any starters, in addition to missing our two starting safeties the Pack is without its starter at the four primary skill positions on offense – quarterback (Russell Wilson), tailback (Jamelle Eugene &/or Toney Baker), wide receiver (Donald Bowens) and tight end (Anthony Hill).

I personally think that Tom O’Brien is being hypercareful in the early goings here and is just making sure that all of his players are going to be healthy when it comes time to play with the BIG DOGS. It would suck if Anthony Hill were lost for the entire season with an injury that was exacerbated by a smaller injury of lesser significants.

As for Daniel Evens starting… eh, we’ll see.

    We’ll be alright. GO PACK!!!

We’ll be OK. It’s not going to be a great or even a good year, but if you were paying attention, you would have known that before the season. The defense will be alright, and the offense will improve.

BTW, a source tells me that Baker is aiming to be back by Clemson in 2 weeks. FWIW.

The good news ahead is we can’t continue to be the school that has 15 ACL and knee injuries to KEY football players every year; and we can’t forever be the school whose basketball players all break their feet each year. SOMEDAY it will happen to other schools.

We’re just ‘the chosen people’ at this point.

^ I thought that last year Howlie!!

good presser today from coach.. it had no rhythm but he says some good things.

  5. sf59 09/01/2008 at 4:12 PM #

    Just for comparison’s sake:

USC came into the game with 0 injuries and left with 0

  6. MrPlywood 09/01/2008 at 4:13 PM #

And this is why I’m an agnostic.

  7. Astral Rain 09/01/2008 at 4:17 PM #

Actually, if you look at the weather forecast, chance game might be cancelled due to Hurricane.

How close did William and Mary take UNC last year?

  8. wpackman33 09/01/2008 at 4:34 PM #

It’ll be alright. Andre Brown is our bright spot. He’ll be more than capable to carry the load against W & M. Then hopefully we can get Eugene and maybe Baker back for the Clemson game.
Our passing game has really got to step up and be not great or good but at least fair/adequate. And honestly i don’t have the faith that Evans can do that. We might be alright against W & M but when conference play comes, we will get drilled with him in there. I’m not sure if Wilson will do any better since he is unproven but it gives us something to hope for. Oh well, i ultimately have faith in TOB. It just suck that we’ve been stuck with some serious bad luck. Its got to run out sometime, right?

Nate Irving on being asked was the conference down after some tough opening week losses: “I don’t play for the league, I play for N. C. State.”

  10. b 09/01/2008 at 5:13 PM #

W & M didn’t play Carolina LY, they lost to VT 44-3. JMU, who did play Carolina close for 3 quarters before losing 37-14, beat them 55-34. We should be able to win the game even depleted as badly as we are. I’m not taking it for granted though, we need to show up in force to pump the team up. Could be a confidence builder.

  11. chris92heel 09/01/2008 at 5:35 PM #

Astral may be thinking of a game from like 04 or 05 where we opened with W&M, trailed at the half before eventually winning by ~10.

btw, the JMU game wasn’t close for 3 quarters – it was like 31-7 at halftime.

I tend to agree with howlie. . . . At some point Murphy(‘s Law) will have to plague someone else. . . I hope!

Gotta love Nate Irving. Saw him play once in HS he was scary good. If he stays all four and is injury free, he will re-write the record book for NC State LBs.

  14. RabidWolf 09/01/2008 at 7:17 PM #

Nate Irving is an absolute beast at LB. IMHO, with the obvious shortcomings of everyone in the league, I think we’ll be ok. ClemPsun showed some glaring shortcomings against ‘Bama, UNX only won by a late TD, Duke is Duke (JMU is JMU), VT…’nuff said, FSU is a mystery at this point (but seems to have a really easy early schedule), UVa is young, UMd is thin, etc. I don’t believe there is going to be anyone running away with the ACC this season, so anybody has a shot.

I’m glad Evan’s is starting against W & M. If Wilson had a serious concussion, from what I’ve read, you don’t want to rush someone back into a game, where they will get banged around and which could potentially lead to further complications.

With Evan’s limitations we know we will have problems, if he is the starter for the rest of the year. I hope Wilson can come back in, later in the season, but after W & M, we don’t really have an easy game to ease an young QB into.

I didn’t get a chance to watch the South Carolina game, how good / bad did our offensive line look?

  16. BJD95 09/01/2008 at 7:52 PM #

OL was awful. I’m sure Evans will throw for 200 yards and 2 TDs, and his fanboyz will be back in full glory.

I love this quote by TOB:

“McKeen has a lot of pass-rushing abilities,” O’Brien said. “He performed better than Markus Kuhn did. We are a performance-based organization here, so he moves up.”

At least someone in our god forsaken athletics dept. knows the meaning of accountability.

  18. sf59 09/01/2008 at 9:01 PM #

mckeen was a stud. i love his hit to blow off davis’s helmet

  19. wolfpack95 09/01/2008 at 9:13 PM #

Our D should be more than enough to handle W & M.
We may see more Defensive TD’s than Offensive TDs this Sat.

  20. packville 09/01/2008 at 9:18 PM #

Great quote by Nate Irving, that guy was all over the field Thursday, definitely the brightest spot on a dark night. I’d rather see Beck start instead of DE, at least when he gets picked it is 50 yards deep instead of a pick 6…. like a great punt

  21. wolfpack95 09/01/2008 at 10:32 PM #

Mrs. WP95 was infuriated to hear that Evans will start Sat.
It takes quite a bit for my wife to get upset about NC State athletics, despite being a graduate.

  22. b 09/01/2008 at 10:51 PM #

Against W&M and W&M alone, Evans is the better choice. No reason to rush Russell, we need him more later.

    Thanks for the correction Chris.

God Almighty has blessed us with a kick ass LB at a position that we were weak at going into this year. He put Brown in the 100 yard a game catigory again. He has blessed us with WM game this week and he has blessed us all with a great NC State Education.

I would like to say that other than the two bad snaps our
offensive line was not half bad. Brown did get over 100 yards and it looked like Wilson was able to move around ok at first. I think the confidence got shanken when Wilson went down and Daniel, God love him, does not have the swagger that we needed at that moment. I see a solid unit by the end of the year. I think that we will be able to run on teams when we get Jamelle and Baker back. The defensive attitude will give them the nastyness to run. Against WM we really need one of our QBs to throw well to give our recievers confidence for when Wilson comes back. My prediction before the game was that I would be proud of the team, the coaches, the fans and the university. The team fought hard just dropped the ball too much. Nate is a beast and I think we will be able to run this year. We should get Couch back this week too. Wilson will be a strong performer and be an inspiration to all concussion victims around the world including Brett Farve. The New York Jets? I think our coaches game planed well and I was not there but I trust the fans who did travele marked the territory well enough for the rest of the pack. I think this game gave us a lot to build on. I also have to say that the all whites we wear for away games look bad ass on the HD TV ya’ll. The WM game will be a great opportunity for us to build on what we did well, eliminate turnovers and gain confidence that will make us a strong team by the end of the year.

Why does the title of this have “Part MMXIII” (2013).
    Should it be MMVIII (2008)?

  25. Dr. BadgerPack 09/02/2008 at 5:41 AM #

^Do you think we only get “screwed” once a year? 🙂

    I would surmise it’s a running tab…
