I didn’t think hog slaughter started till cool weather. Oh well at least it’s an early game, the heavy drinking will set up the rest of the day/night.

I’m so glad ESPN wants to showcase the up and coming NC State Wolfpack…………………

These games with optional times are annoying as hell. Noon or 3:30 – not like some of us need to make plans in advance.

Not surprising that this game got the less appealing time slot at 12:00 p.m. One reason former coach Mike O’Cain was always against playing ECU, was that no one outside of the state of N.C. cares about this game. If ECU wasn’t ranked, there wouldn’t be any t.v., except for the regional telecast like last year in Greenville. Thanks again Mr. Fowler for putting this game on the schedule.

Fan support/attendance was great for W&M. I think a noon start will make it harder for people to get lost in the tailgate lots. Hopefully CF is full and loud.

The only thing that bums me out about this is that the reason for this game being on national television is ECU, not NCSU. I never thought I would have to type that sentence. Thanks, Uncle Jed.

The one game my schedule allows me to attend is a noon game, oh well, at least I can start the heavy drinking early!

ive noticed something and its always held true. TOB has a press-conference and lets say it run for X minutes. Butch-slap has a press-conference and it will invariably run at least 2X. The guy loves to talk, sheesh

SFN: Butch Davis is the Joe Biden of college of football.

The ECU defensive line is going to have a tough time with the NCSU offensive line…

    Wait…

Wonder who will not be playing. After reading the list of who won’t show at Clemson, it’s like we have our hands tied behind our backs for every game.

SFN: I have NO inside scoop. But, I have to wonder if some of these guys are being held out Clemson for precautionary reasons as we all understand that our chance of beating Clemson is small. It sure would be an additional emotional boost if Hill, Baker, Eugene and others were ‘suddenly’ available for ECU at home.

I hope we dont let many of those pirate fans weasel their way into Carter- Finley. 1/3 of Ficklen stadium was wearing red in Greenville last year. I know most of us have either friends or family with EZU ties, (I have more than my share!!) but damn,,, it’s hard to bare those folks in the situation we will likely be facing Sept. 20th.

A good possibility I’ll get a strong dose of the Medicine I was dishin last year…. ECU can make me just about as sick as the Tarholes. Its just a little different with them. I truly don’t mind them being good, hell, I’ll even pull for them a bit as long as WE ARE BETTER!! You tarholes may go to hell everyday of the week!!

AT least it will not give the hoodlums from ECU too much time to get liquored up.

Can we borrow the Greenville police to rough them up?

    Good point Rick.

I can’t believe Pack fans are still bitching about scheduling ECU. They are clearly the best college football program in NC, they have a scheduling philosophy that Wolfpack season ticket holders like me can only dream of (thanks, Lee), and the game attracts saturation coverage from the local media here in North Carolina (I for one, don’t give a tinkers damn what the guys on Sportscenter and the rest of the sports talking heads say or do about us, particularly since it is obvious we are years away from being of even marginal relevence on the national college football stage). Perhaps we should be more worried that ECU might drop US from the schedule, since, as a national power, playing crummy ACC teams like NC State and Virginia (who they will beat like a rented mule) “doesn’t do anything for them”…

Great. Just great. I’m otherwise speechless as to the irony of this whole stupid thing. Well I can muster one more word: debacle. Wait, two words: debacle telecast. Jebus.

  16. BoKnowsNCS71 09/09/2008 at 12:18 PM #

I don’t think they will be tearing down our goal posts. Sadly, at this stage we are more like the ECU of old.

  17. tvbman 09/09/2008 at 12:31 PM #

This game is to ECU like State/Carolina basketball game is to State fans. ECU fans will be out in full force, I bet…and ready to gloat like the game truly means something.

  18. robopack 09/09/2008 at 12:38 PM #

Classof89??? Yeah ecu is clearly the best college football program in NC. Yeah THIS YEAR. So what if Wake Forest is in NC. So what if State beat them last year. So what if State has not even played them this year yet. So what if Wake, State, and Carolina may have better teams than ecu next year. I would judge a PROGRAM over 5 or 10 years. Certainly not after week 2 in a season..Ummmm…Please get a grip. Wonder if Skip will even stick around to make it his program 2 or 3 years from now. Wouldn’t blame him if he did though, its probably a nice advantage to be able to pick up the pieces from a long list of players that got dismissed from their acc/sec schools because their character or grades couldn’t cut it.
Couldn’t be? Don’t believe it? Should we name names for you?

I don’t mean to point the finger at a fellow wolfpacker, im just sick of how fast the ecu bandwagon blows up. Ive seen it all before. Precisely what i don’t like about ecu.

  20. StateFans 09/09/2008 at 1:05 PM #

ECU is competing with Wake Forest to the best college football TEAM in the state THIS YEAR.

PLEASE recognize the difference between a TEAM and PROGRAM.

  21. robopack 09/09/2008 at 1:08 PM #

Because tv is involved im sure we would have taken any of the time slots they (espn) offered, but rest assured the 12pm was our first choice. And there is a big reason for that; get um in and out as fast and early as possible, and definitely before the sun goes down. There is a historic reason for that approach.

  22. TomCat 09/09/2008 at 1:15 PM #

I don’t see either party taking this game lightly. 10 minutes footage of Pack’s inspired performance last year’s game in Greenville will remedy that. Watching ECU corral Pat White last weekend and holding them to 3 total points was shocking. They are physical at the point of attack and athletic on the backend. They are balanced and efficient on offense.
Will be a backyard brawl next Saturday, records and past performances will be thrown out the window. Wilson’s ability to stay alive in the pocket will be critcal to the Pack’s success.
ECU is weak on the tee, in kick protection, coverage and prone to penalties this year.
Potential game changer for NC State- steal points and frustrate Patrick Pinkney. On the other hand, if ECU grades-out at 80% of the efficiency it imposed against WVA….. look out.

  23. robopack 09/09/2008 at 1:15 PM #

    Exactly StateFans. Thats my point.

  24. bradleyb123 09/09/2008 at 3:55 PM #

ECU is good. I’ll give them that much. Best in the State? Time will tell if that’s true or not. At this point, I take Wake over ECU any day of the week. ECU beat Va Tech on a blocked punt. Take away that one somewhat-of-a-fluke play and we’re probably not even having this conversation. West Virginia has no defense. They lost a lot from last year. They were WAY overrated at #8 in the nation.

But I give ECU credit — they did beat two pretty good teams. I’m reminded of last year when App beat Michigan. Many App fans thought they could beat NFL teams after that! But as it turns out, Michigan was really not very good. I think that’s maybe the case with Va Tech and probably West Virginia, too.

My point is, don’t start beating the “best team in NC” drums after these two games. Wait until the end of the season, because then we’ll know.

I believe NC State’s defense is a LOT better than West Virginia’s. ECU will be facing their toughest defense this year, and in their first true road game, and in a very HOSTILE environment. Don’t count the Pack out if Wilson can muster just a decent offensive performance for us, because the defense will hold their own.

  25. SuperStuff 09/09/2008 at 9:16 PM #

Now I know I’m the first to say why play ECU, but with them being ranked it’s a great opportunity. I hope ECU is still ranked when we play them. It could be a turning point in our season just like it was last year.
