Major Tom vs. Visor Boy – Live Blogging (Final Score – 34-0)

A great rivalry is renewed tonight, for all the nation to see in glorious high definition. That said, you are about to witness a major challenge – Tom O’Brien is bringing a knife to a gunfight (thank God he’s a Marine). But we’ll be watching and hoping anyway. Set your baseline appropriately – as long as we get everyone back to Raleigh alive and in one piece, that’s a positive after the week we’ve had.

Depressing fact for the day – South Carolina placed more players on The Sporting News’ pre-season all-SEC first team (4). That’s four more than NC State before everybody got hurt.

My personal prediction is South Carolina 31, NC State 7. And I believe that’s fairly optimistic. See you at 8:00 sharp!

8:17 – offensive offense so far. D looks good, though.

8:36 – Spurrier’s ego and the Pack’s defense keep the game scoreless. There’s no rational reason for SC to pass.

8:40 – If Wilson is playing QB, that would have been a State touchdown. Damn it.

8:48 – Our defense spending way too much time on the field. On the plus side, we just ripped a guy’s helmet off with a hit. Nice.

8:53 – Beecher may be the worst QB I’ve ever seen. Wilson back under center, thank God.

8:56 – Don’t get hurt, Andre.

8:58 – Oh God, Underwood misses handoff and Wilson gets crushed. He’s not moving.

9:01 – I think this is the end of the liveblog. I can’t believe this is happening. Everyone pray with all your heart and soul. Our living room is in tears.

Halftime – South Carolina 3, NC State 0. I’ll update when someone scores, in case anyone is relying on updates.

9 yard TD drive after gruesome Evans pick. 10-0 USC.

I’m going to shift to tape delay now. My apologies, but my heart’s just not in it.

Alright. I just finished punching my wall, karate-kicking my tv and launching a beer bottle two house-lots to the east and I am ready to say something positive…

    1. Minimal penalties (felt good for a change to watch our opponent shoot themselves in the foot)
    2. Running game looked decent against a good defense that was not worried about our passing game. Eugene and Brown could become a good combo.
    3. Defense looked decent for the first 2.5 quarters. Not sure how much was their offense versus our defense.
    4. We might be lucky with Wilson’s injury. We need him DESPERATELY.
    5. We are the best team in the history of college football who hasn’t scored a point in 8 quarters!

The 4th quarter was Maryland redux. We wilted, then QUIT.

    Our offensive “leader” had the heart of a cadaver;
Ant Hill blocked like an injured little girl.
Larsen centered the ball like a DL.

Let Nate Irving be QB, and run the option with Andre. Throw every pass to Graham. Give Evans a cajones transfer from a bull. Or a parkeet–either would be an improvement. Take the names off all the other jerseys..

Tonight made me realize just how lacking in depth we are. I mean you see it on the two deep, but then when you see it on the field, it really makes an impression. This year could get ugly very easily. It could also go very well if a lot of young players learn their way quickly. I am very hopeful about the defense except there’s no way they can be expected to be on the field so much. By the way, given how shallow we are in the defensive backfield, where is brandon barnes? Anybody know? Surely he’s not a redshirt?

Does anybody know of a place online where you can listen to the Wolfpack Sports network radio broadcast besides packpass?

I don’t how anyone can be down on ANYONE who has the balls to play one down at the QB position behind that OL.

The only person that should have the misfortune to have to play QB at NC State right now, is Chuck Amato himself.

Sigh. I don’t even know what to say. I knew it was dismal – but never thought it would be this bad. Let them never put Evans back in. As a BHS graduate – I CRINGE when he comes onto the field. I am praying for Wilson and hope for a very speedy recovery. And I hope to never see the Fajgenbaum doctors on the field so much again.

Thank you for this site for giving me at least some good laughs during all this bad.

Assuming RW can play again this year, i think he can be very effective in the package the coaches have set up for him. The biggest problem is not him but the OL

Granted we saw very little of him before the injury, but here is what i saw:

-Behind a porous O-line he managed the game. With continuous pressure from the inside and outside he did not fold; but kept composure and threw the ball either out of bounds or only where a WR could get it. Our QB must limit TOs. Took one tough sack but was smart enough to get rid of the ball on most occasions

-Obviously he can make plays with his legs. Very strong/ quick/ creative

-Can take a lick and still get up and play. The USC D was head hunting him and got away with what should have been 3 PF penalties before the injury took him out

i am looking forward to hopefully seeing him in a pocket with time to throw. The kid’s accuracy and arm strength are good enough to make you forget he can scramble. He never got a chance to show that tonight

he got hurt right when we were finally getting going. Would love to see the package we had with him run its course after a running game was established…. could really keep a d on its heels.

Given that RW only took about 20 snaps and performed adequately behind a poor o-line, i do not get the “burn glennon’s RS talk”. RW already beat out glennon and has the ability to be a solid QB…. as good as the OL can let him be.

why in the world would you burn Glennons redshirt. so he can have his neck broken in the first half that he plays as well? thanks Chuck for the steaming pile of shit you left in West Raleigh
