Post-Lotto ESPN Mock Draft – Hickson at #25 to Rockets

Here’s your linkage. Just in case you were harboring any miniscule hopes for Hickson’s return (which SFN certainly never encouraged) – you can let them go now.

just go, hire an agent, and let Lowe know he has a scholarship to use. although I don’t think it all really matters.

  2. Ed89 05/21/2008 at 7:09 AM #

We’ve got that scholly planned for ’09 anyway, so you’re right, at this point, it doesn’t matter.

For anyone interested, here’s a link to the Schedule of Games this Friday (weekend games to come). I’m disappointed to see both Wall and Favors are playing Friday in Chapel Hill.

JJ Hickson? Never heard of him.

  5. El Scrotcho 05/21/2008 at 9:09 AM #

What a wasted year for both Hickson and NC State. If the basketball-loving piece of me hadn’t died that would evoke some emotion.

who is going to play down low this yr? after a yr of scouting Ben Mcauley the acc sqauds had his # last yr. we need some help in the post… come to think of it, we need some help in the frontcourt, we need help on the wings, AND we need help in the backcourt. its gonna be another long year fellas/ im just glad sid is working hard on righting the ship. rolls eyes

  7. wufpup76 05/21/2008 at 11:08 AM #

More rumblings about a lack of hard work being put in by the coaching staff during an offseason, again??? This is most disheartening …

Apparently some folks really do never learn … Blame the interwebs …

  8. McPete 05/21/2008 at 11:43 AM #

    wufpup76,
did someone mention a lack of hard work in the offseason? i didn’t read anything about that.

we should be fine in the frontcourt with big mac, costner, and tracy smith. i don’t think the rest of the acc “figured” maccauley or costner out, they just didn’t get their number called as much because of hickson. we know they can be good players in this league. it’s just they both appear a little tempermental about playing time.

that said, the real question mark for next season is guard play.

    McPete –

Noah and choppack1 allude to it in the Fayetteville Observer thread

  10. packpigskinfan23 05/21/2008 at 12:39 PM #

umm… just because Noah and Choppack “allude” to it, dosnt mean they know anything.

SOMETIMES no news is good news.

I will hold my judgment on the off season workouts until I personally see the players on campus or even better- on the court.

  11. wufpup76 05/21/2008 at 12:43 PM #

Hey! I said they were ‘rumblings’ – not fact! 🙂

  12. packpigskinfan23 05/21/2008 at 1:45 PM #

oh I know.. but it is the one part of the whole internet conflict I agree with Fowler on. These “rumblings” have absolutely NO base. We just assume since we havent heard anything different, that there is nothing different. While that MIGHT be true, I REALLY hope our BB Staff isn’t that stupid.

  13. Noah 05/21/2008 at 2:11 PM #

We just assume since we havent heard anything different, that there is nothing different.

Sadly, that’s not what I said. I have heard specific details.

  14. McPete 05/21/2008 at 2:13 PM #

I’ll believe the rumors as soon as someone provides real names of people who can prove they have some actual access to the program that normal fans don’t, and then report it without using anonymous screen names. that’s also one big difference between traditional sports print media and internet sites: newspapers are loathe to using anonymous sources and writers put their name and email address to their stories. every ‘rumor’ from even this wonderful site i take with a grain of salt.

people looked at brandon costner’s body composition last year as proof that there was no off-season workout program by the staff when to me he looked exactly the same as he did when he arrived on campus as a freshman. like he used to be chiseled or something.

“people looked at brandon costner’s body composition last year as proof that there was no off-season workout program by the staff when to me he looked exactly the same as he did when he arrived on campus as a freshman.”

Thank you for making the case. If he was working out in the off season he would have looked better not the same or worse (personally I thought he looke alot heavier). A player should develop more muscle and lose fat as he progresses through his college career. That is if he works out and stops stuffing his face.

  16. packpigskinfan23 05/21/2008 at 4:06 PM #

Noah- You may have said that… but I still get no proof, or even anything that makes me think your right or what you have heard is right. And how was it that this person you spoke with knew again? (I read it… but since forgot and am struggling to get to work on time)

I’ll just choose to believe no one until I see it for myself.

  17. Noah 05/21/2008 at 7:35 PM #

Understandable. As always, you are free to believe whatever you like.

  18. choppack1 05/21/2008 at 9:09 PM #

ppf – I can see why you’d be skeptical. If you read my post, I advise that I haven’t asked someone who had told me about these issues in the past.

However, based on what you’ve seen in the off-season – what do you think is changing?

  19. packpigskinfan23 05/21/2008 at 9:41 PM #

You can never tell. It could be everything, and could be nothing. We can only hope its somewhere in between.

We all WANT a lot of change… but firing an assistant is not always the answer(unless of course that is the OC during the Davis/Stone QB years). I would not mind seeing some changes in the staff, but I do not know that its the answer.

I would not mind seeing some transfers… but that may not be the answer either.

The only thing I DO know is that the workouts this Summer better be A LOT better then they were last year. We have not heard anything about the workout situation, but that does not mean that it has not changed.

“we should be fine in the frontcourt with big mac, costner, and tracy smith”

agreed. I see Ben & Costner getting their numbers back to where they were pre-JJ.

can only hope that JJ will learn from jules’s example:

We know that Costner was recruited and began his career at state playing on the perimeter in sendek’s offense. he then became more of a low post player in sid’s 1st year (although his versatility made him more dangerous). So who’s to say the staff didn’t tell him to bulk up some last offseason to play more effective down low?

  23. wfpk99 05/22/2008 at 3:39 PM #

McPete, perhaps your such a fan of BC’s bulk because you own stock in another “Mc” which obviously Brandon visited quite often in last year’s offseason.

I also find it very funny that you say that traditional sports media are loath to report “rumors” when we have mainstream media all over trying to keep up with the “scoop” that blogs have been regularly getting by reporting breaking news at the drop of the hat that they then have to retreat from.

I do take things with a grain of salt, but to dismiss them as all flippant is silly. By the way, if you’re so against “anonymous” posts, why don’t you sign your name to yours?

  24. Wolf Dog 05/22/2008 at 6:46 PM #

BC injured himself last offseason in practice getting ready for I believe the Pan Am games. BC had been quite impressive to the coaches before that I understood. Him being out of shape was due to his injury.

  25. McPete 05/23/2008 at 2:26 PM #

    wfpk99,
read my comment. i didn’t say i’m against anonymous posts, i said i didn’t like to put much stock in internet rumors from anonymous posters citing unnamed sources. i don’t think there’s anything wrong with that approach.

newspapers stake their reputation on a daily basis on being factual. and sure they all screw up frequently and have to recant. but i’m pretty sure most major daily pubs have a strong stance against using anonymous sources for stories. and yes i’m aware of at least one very famous exception in Watergate.

about BC, i don’t think the guy deserves to be made fun of constantly because of his weight. i wonder how many overweight people on this site would appreciate a sensitive subject being discussed publicly. if he had a good year last year (and i don’t belive his weight prevented that from happening), it wouldn’t even be talked about.
