You don’t get points for playing good teams close. See GT. The committee takes the whole season into account, and Carolina waxed them by 39 the last time out.

If VT gets the nod over Miami, the Canes will be absolutely robbed. VT beat nobody of significance all year and finished with 3 fewer wins than Miami.

Best case scenario, Miami AND VT get in. Hope it happens.

  2. wolfpacker420 03/15/2008 at 2:53 PM #

If ASU makes it in with the lowest RPI ever then VT has to make it right? Most people say ASU is a lock and they lost 10 of their last 15 where VT was the complete opposite. If the committee is looking at the last 15 games VT is in no doubt!

  3. StateFans 03/15/2008 at 2:55 PM #

No offense…but I think that some of you guys are a few days in the past.

    * “Most people” are NOT saying that ASU is a lock. In fact, both ESPN and Fox Sports project ASU to miss the tournament.

    * Miami is a lock. Why discuss ‘if VPI gets in over Miami’?

  4. wufpup76 03/15/2008 at 2:57 PM #

^I would hope Miami is already a lock, which is why I’m stumping so hard for VT (like it matters what I do)

Yes, hope both get in … True, you don’t necessarily get points for close losses to good teams – but they do take conference tourny results into account, so I’m thinking there may be hope for VT

Heck, 3 of Herb’s 5 NCAA tourny teams got in as almost a direct result of play in the ACC tourny, including the Sweet 16 season when we beat Paul-less Wake and were respectable against Duke in the semis

  5. Wulfpack 03/15/2008 at 3:00 PM #

ASU is most likely out, and they beat Arizona twice, Stanford USC, Oregon and Xavier. I will say it again, VT has no good wins and losses to NC State, Penn State, Old Dominion and Richmond. Out.

  6. StateFans 03/15/2008 at 3:02 PM #

For the record…each of ASU’s wins over Arizona came when Arizona was without at least one of their starters.

  7. BJD95 03/15/2008 at 3:09 PM #

VT is playing really well down the stretch. If the committee has been watching the games, then they get in for sure.

Miami is a lead pipe lock. There is no set number of bids set aside for the ACC. VT and Miami are completely independent in their consideration.

    Go Tigers!

  8. wolfpacker420 03/15/2008 at 3:12 PM #

“This might be one of those teams that ultimately gets a subjective test from the committee, and ASU looks like an NCAA team at this point.” quote from espn aka H.Y.P.E on it’s bubble watch teams?

SFN: Problem with ESPN is that they have dozens and dozens of contributors. Joe Lunardi – considered the authority/expert at ESPN – has ASU out.

  9. wufpup76 03/15/2008 at 3:12 PM #

Well, we see how this is going to go … Scheyer has no position on Hammonds’ drive, there’s a flop by Scheyer when half his body is off the play … “CHARRRRRRRGE!!!!!!”

    What else is new?

  10. Noah 03/15/2008 at 3:13 PM #

They just mentioned the weather in Charlotte. if you are in the triangle, go look at the WRAL weather radar. Big ass wall of water headed this way.

  11. wufpup76 03/15/2008 at 3:15 PM #

If you compare both ASU and VT using blind resumes, I agree w/ you Wulfpack – neither team gets in … but the committee is watching these games and there is no doubt a human element that isn’t always objective …

Just hope we (the ACC) get 5 in …

  12. StateFans 03/15/2008 at 3:16 PM #

^ Games are not being shown in Charlotte. Weather emergency has superceeded the entire Duke-Clemson game. They literally just took time to show us special video…of rain. That is right. It is raining…and we got video.

They keep repeating the same news and warnings over and over over.

    More rain video…oops…same rain video

That’s what you get for seling your tix, LOL. Doesn’t surprise me. I’m sure egomaniacal Greg Fishel is itching to do the same thing here.

  14. MrPlywood 03/15/2008 at 3:27 PM #

LOL – the state of State – instead of discussing the Pack’s performance in the ACC tourney, we’re discussing the weather. But I guess the storm IS showing more hustle…

    *sigh*

  15. wolfpacker420 03/15/2008 at 3:29 PM #

same problem here phones are busy at the news station so i guess everyone is blowin them up

  16. BJD95 03/15/2008 at 3:29 PM #

These announcers suck. Damn CBS for taking Packer away from the ACCT.

  17. BJD95 03/15/2008 at 3:38 PM #

Nice Tiger run. 26-25, good guys. Brandt says “bang” everytime Duke makes a 3. Nothing when Clemson does.

Im not pulling for any team, I just HOPE that clemson finds a way to win this thing, not because I like to see Duke and UNC lose, but just so I dont have to sit through another “Duke vs UNC Classic Match-up” crap. I hate the Media.

  20. StateFans 03/15/2008 at 3:51 PM #

    Hey SFN,

I just found a segment of an NC State-Maryland football game in season four of HBO’s “The Wire.” Any interest in trying to put a youtube link up on the site to it?

SFN: Sure…interest in anything NC State

  22. StateFans 03/15/2008 at 3:52 PM #

    ESPN’s updated Bracket Math

“BUBBLE” (12 teams for 6 spots)

    • IN (6, in S-Curve order): South Alabama, Arizona, Illinois State, Oregon, Ohio State, Temple

    • OUT (6, in S-Curve order): Massachusetts, Virginia Tech, Villanova, Arizona State, VCU, New Mexico

  23. wolfpacker420 03/15/2008 at 3:54 PM #

well i don’t think that clemson would stand a chance against unx. the refs wouldn’t let the tigers win who are we kiddin. our only hope is which team do you hate worse? unx or dookies? I for one hate the tarbabies so go abc!!!

  24. highstick 03/15/2008 at 3:58 PM #

Comparing Duke smugness to Tarhole smugness! Yea, right. Too bad both teams were in the Georgia Dome last night and the roof collapsed.

Played in a golf tourney this morning/afternoon and we all hung around pulling for the Hokies.
