“Carolina fans can be just as arrogant as a Duke fan.” Thank you Virginia Tech fan.

Let’s root against them BOTH! A Hokie/Tiger final would be wonderful.

Purnell’s simple, powerful quote in this morning’s paper: “We’re here to win the ACC championship.” Confident, determined, focused.

IMHO, the best 4 coaches in the league are the ones still playing today.

    Here’s to a blue-free final …

  4. rky 03/15/2008 at 12:29 PM #

Just for the record, I have an intense hatred for the baby blue that burns 1 billion times hotter than my hatred for Dook. I did like that Animal House reference though . . . GO TIGERS! GO HOKIES! (ugh! I just threw up in my mouth a little . . . )

That piece has a bit of caution for all of us.

The idea that a UNC fan can take offense to the smugness of a post-win Duke fan says it all. SMUG is in the top-3 reasons to hate UNC fans. SMUG is probably much of the reason why ECU fans hate NC State (that and the fact that UNC didn’t play them for decades, so the Pirates were working on a compressed smugness scale). SMUG is some irritating crap.

Also, how about the fact that this entire report is biased by the sheer number of UNC fans at the Charlotte ACCT or even the bias of the news room. I mean, I’ll admit to being sheltered by my monolithic hatred of UNC but, seriously, who really hates Duke relative to UNC? What a waste of productive emotion. Hating Duke has a negative ROI; you just don’t have enough time for it to payoff. Meanwhile, hating UNC is something that gives back all year, in all sports, at all levels. Hating Duke vs hating UNC is like comparing a hobby to a vocation, it’s just a full step down on the seriousness scale.

A blue-free final would be great, but who has the best chance besides the dark blue boys (who have the confidence, talent, and coaching) to beat the baby-blues in the final should they end up there? Yeah I would like to see Clemson win it more than any of the other 3, but more than that I want to see the Holes go down. And not so much because of the alumni. Over her in western NC the UNX alumni are the least obnoxious. The worst are the ones that couldn’t find Chapel Hill on a freakin map who are all wearing that sickening color of powder blue this weekend. An occasional Dukie I can take.

Obviously we are pulling just as hard for VPI today as Clemson. A Tech win will put them in the NCAA Tournament and give the ACC a 5th team

I can always be objective after the game but every call that goes against carolina is a good call in my book.

Hansbro, one announcer called him a bull in china shop last night, but you let an opposing defender touch him and he gets the call every f’n time.

I really don’t understand or even agree with the idea that ACC fans in general hate Duke more than uncch.

There’s even a term for anti-uncch fans – ABC’ers. There’s no such thing for Duke.

Unless there’s an agenda, I just don’t really get this story.

Very spirited first half from the Hokies … lots of intensity and diving on the floor … easy to get behind them today

I’ve even been impressed w/ the refs in that first half … a few calls that blue teams usually get didn’t go their way that half

If only we had a team in Raleigh thought would fight as hard as the Hokies are today

I think I better leave this site, I can’t come up with anything good to say and I am REALLY hating everything about the new and current NC State right now.

I decided to have some fun with this and made a “Tigerfans Nation” banner. You all can use this if you want.

(note, the above website has nothing to do with UNC!)

  13. StateFans 03/15/2008 at 2:10 PM #

Dude…that is AWESOME!!! Thanks so much.

Quick question…how tough would it be to also do one that says “Orange”Fans Nation instead of “Tiger”

We are going to adopt Clemson, Texas and Tennessee for the NCAA Tournament.

  14. BJD95 03/15/2008 at 2:17 PM #

Damn it, Hokies! Start converting some offensive looks.

  15. SeaWolfZ 03/15/2008 at 2:17 PM #

I have never been able to generate much animosity toward Duke. How can I dislike a team that UNC-CH fans dislike so much? And Coach K was supportive of Coach Valvano near the end of his life. I actually enjoy watching Duke play because they play with intensity and almost always give their best effort no matter the outcome. Like the Wolfpack used to do. Coach K gets his players to do whatever it takes to win. If Coach K was Costner’s coach, can you imagine what would have happened after Costner elected to stand out of bounds during most of an offensive play?

It is disgusting that State fans have to adopt a surrogate team to pull for in the ACCT. Dookies and Heels dont hate us any more because State doesn’t even register on their radar. How far we have fallen.

  16. BJD95 03/15/2008 at 2:29 PM #

Doesn’t look good for the Hokies.

  17. BJD95 03/15/2008 at 2:36 PM #

What a lucky bunch of pricks the Holes are.

  18. Noah 03/15/2008 at 2:37 PM #

I really hate Joe Wolf Jr.

  19. Sweet jumper 03/15/2008 at 2:37 PM #

Hansblow follows a Lawson miss with 0.8 seconds left for the win. Boo! Hiss! Good try Hokies.

  20. BJD95 03/15/2008 at 2:39 PM #

That’s OK, it’s just setting up Purnell’s vengeance. Think VT did enough to secure an NCAAT bid, too.

  21. wufpup76 03/15/2008 at 2:40 PM #

    SSDD

  22. wufpup76 03/15/2008 at 2:41 PM #

Yes, I would hope that type of performance against the #1 rated team would be enough to get the Hokies in …

If the ACC doesn’t get 5 after this, then I think something’s wrong

  23. Wulfpack 03/15/2008 at 2:42 PM #

“Think VT did enough to secure an NCAAT bid, too.”

I don’t. ACC will only get four and I think Miami gets the nod over the Hokies. No good wins.

  24. SaccoV 03/15/2008 at 2:44 PM #

You would like to think that a last-second loss to the #1 team in the country would be enough but VT has no big OOC wins, an RPI of 63 (?) or so. I don’t see it happening. I would love it if it did. Hell of a game played by VT and they should receive something. Come on TIGERS!!!!

  25. wufpup76 03/15/2008 at 2:46 PM #

That is really clever and funny, jbark! 🙂

I wouldn’t be shocked if VT was left out, but I do think (would hope) they take a performance like this into account

So far we’ve seen bubble teams like Baylor, UMass, and Kentucky lose “bad” games and then we’ve seen a performance like VT gave over the last two games, the last game against #1 in the nation … I hope that carries some weight
