NCAAT Friday – Tell us more about the how great the Pac-10 is

* Friday’s Games

* The over-rated Pac-10 conference lost two teams on the first day of the NCAA Tournament when Arizona and USC lost to the Big East and the Big 12, respectfully. Poor Doug Gottlieb probably didn’t get any sleep last night in between his sobs.

* Duke barely escapes Belmont.

* I expect Miami to lose today and Clemson to have a dogfight on their hands with Villanova. But, if the ACC were to advance all four of its teams to the 2nd round then I sure hope the media picks up on the statement and publicly re-addresses the conference/VPI’s snub by the tournament selection committee.

* A lot of people are hot on Pitt…I would be if I hadn’t been hot on them most of the last five years only get burned every time I chose to advance them deep into my brackets.

* Dan Wetzel has a notebook of the day’s action posted on Yahoo Sports.

I like Pitt and their coach, but the free throws are going to eventually kill them. They missed 25 free throws against Georgetown and somehow still won last weekend. They can’t get away with that again.

Doug Gottlieb is hard to listen to. He trumpets his cause and will not consider reasonable differences in opinion.

The PAC10 administrators must be masters of propoganda. It is not the strongest conference, but the talking heads seem to have been convinced that it is.

If only the ACC had an Oregon State this year to give all our other teams two free wins. If you take out those 2 wins for everyone in the Pac 10, those bubble teams resumes don’t look nearly as good. Yet all you hear about is the depth of the Pac 10.

    Let’s go Tigers!

I hope Clemson stomps the sh*t out of Villanova … I’m sick of listening to almost every “analyst” say how Villanova will move on (as if Clemson won’t show up) … These are the same analysts who of course, overvalued the Pac10 … hmmmph

Seth Davis actually just picked the largest upset I have on my bracket – Siena over Vandy … I’m not sure what his agreement w/ my upset pick means 🙁

I hope the Wildcats can get past Gonzaga today … it’s a shame they have to match up in the first round b/c I like cheering for each of those schools …

Happy First Round Friday! (and Good Friday!)

“If only the ACC had an Oregon State this year to give all our other teams two free wins. ”

Uh, they did, just replace Oregon with NC.

Rick – Oregon State won zero games in the Pac 10 – they may be the only school in the major conferences to go winless in conference play. That has a huge impact on pushing teams from mediocre to a perceived “bubble-boy.”

I agree that the Pac10 is horribly overrated. I do think UCLA, Stanford and Washington State were impressive yesterday. They have – who Oregon left today? One thing is certain, w/ a greater seed winning and the lesser seed losing to another major conference, we have more evidence that the stupid ESPN line we’ve heard so much “The Pac-10 is the best conference in the nation” was nothing but the usual unsupported dribble that we’ve come to expect from this pisspour network. (On another note, I watched Sportscenter Wednesday night and the lead story on the eve of the greatest event in college sports —-the NBA. Go figure, now that ESPN has NBA, it’s the lead story even though it’s ratings are a joke.)

What is the difference in 0 and four? not much
I also would imagine their RPI is so bad it really drags down their opponents.

BTW, Duke should have lost last night.

Has anyone seen a transcript or news article from Lowes radio show Monday night? WRAL doesn’t have anything on it and neither does gopack.com. I’m real curious if anything was discussed other than JJ going to the NBA. I’m still trying to find out if Sid acknowleged the problems of this season and hinted at changes to come. Please provide a link if you have it. I need some hope for next year.

Wolftown^^ I had heard from someone else that Sid admitted that they were getting back in the gym next week because “everybody needs to get better.” He also said that “everyone” meant not just the players but the staff included.

He also commented that Costner needs to lose some pounds and work on his shot, he may have been mentally worn down throughout the year. I think thats all I can remember…

Wolftown, go to near the bottom of this thread:

    http://www.statefansnation.com/index.php/archives/2008/03/17/wolfpack-finally-finds-way-to-win/

I tried to paraphrase anything relevant that Sidney had to say on his radio show … He did say the team was hitting the gym starting next week

Nova does have strength against things Clemson makes a living on though: pressure full court D and easy turnovers. If Clemson gets past this game they could go pretty far, bit Nova will be a pretty tough game for them.

    couple things:

    1) SFN: it’s respectively unless the point is they were gracious in defeat. you do quality work…so I’m not making fun…just pointing that out.

    2) weren’t WE the whipping boy for the acc this year?

    3) in charleston watching from a bar in the battery. wife is shopping, and I’m left to my vices: beer and basketball. not a good situation brewing with the inlaws in town “ass” well.

    4) watching with a heap of davidson fans…would love to see the nerds pull it out. NERDS! NERDS! NERDS!

    5) can’t wait to watch clemson in this town at 10pm. should be good times if they can win. should have worn orange.

Man I hope Davidson wins. Curry is on fire, he must remember the last time he was in raleigh when they got snubbed. He has score like the last 15 points.

  13. MrPlywood 03/21/2008 at 1:02 PM #

Curry is the bomb. Man, how many empty seats are there at the RBC Center? I’d be there if I could.

  14. BJD95 03/21/2008 at 1:14 PM #

Nice second half by Miami. I would be happy to see McClinton make a nice run – he’s paid his dues.

  15. Trip 03/21/2008 at 1:17 PM #

TN scared me a little for a few minutes, I have them winning it all in my bracket and American was roughing them up. 😮

Drake needs to step up their game, though.

  16. wufpup76 03/21/2008 at 1:18 PM #

“how many empty seats are there at the RBC Center?”

chapel hill fans … what else is new? 😉

nobody else matters but those holes in their eyes …

when I went in ’03-’04 it was sold out and the crowds were great throughout the day (wake and duke were each playing in the rbc)

  17. BJD95 03/21/2008 at 1:38 PM #

It looks like Dell Curry has at least one more son. Sign his ass pronto.

  18. Trip 03/21/2008 at 1:39 PM #

Davidson pulls it out ! Now they are rewarded with a match up against Georgetown :\ I wish they would have been seeded higher so they could atleast make it to the sweet 16, they can beat a lot of 3-16 seeds but I Don’t think they have the size to take out the giants at 1/2.

  19. wufpup76 03/21/2008 at 1:41 PM #

alright Davidson! … Miami gets a win, too …

I actually don’t mind so much when they keep cutting to Stephen Curry’s mom … she’s fairly attractive

  20. Wulfpack 03/21/2008 at 1:42 PM #

    Yea Davidson!!!!!!!!!

    Curry is a phenom!

Did you guys catch that shot of Jed with his daughter sitting at the scorers table? The irony in witnessing a team like Davidson be more successful on your home floor…

  21. BJD95 03/21/2008 at 1:44 PM #

Drake/WKU is a really good game.

  22. Trip 03/21/2008 at 1:44 PM #

Drake is redeeming themselves. Came back from 10 down to tie it up with 30 seconds left…

Agreed about Curry’s mom… a helluva lot better looking than Deron Washington’s mom, too.

  23. Noah 03/21/2008 at 2:07 PM #

Stupid hilltoppers. My bracket is taking a beating.

  24. BJD95 03/21/2008 at 2:07 PM #

    Wow. What a finish!

  25. Trip 03/21/2008 at 2:09 PM #

Wow. Thankfully all 3 (Kent St, Kentucky and now Drake) of the picks i’ve missed were getting knocked out in the next game.. but still, what a finish.
