No defense at all in the 2nd half. No one moving to get open to we revert to the weave and heave. Why can’t we put two good halves together on the same night. I’m glad Fells finally took some shots but he forced way too many threes. Wish we had continued to push it inside. Also, what happend to our rebounding? The second have was damn frustrating to watch.

Tonight was a wasted opportunity to move up significantly in the standings in light of the teams that lost today. Eerily similar to Duke game. Maybe we should lobby for no halftime break–just keep playing straight through!

Thx for the audio tips anyway guys. Nothing worked, but maybe that was for the better this time.

We could have one this game and put ourselves in a very nice position relative to the NCAAT. Seems our guys can’t learn the lessons being taught – we keep reverting to old bad habits. I’m going to bed.

Boston College played tough at Duke today. They will be no pushover at Chestnut Hill.

Sweet jumper: the reason is clear. we mostly have “big” players, and their bodies don’t burn energy as efficiently as speed guard players. soooo we just kind of “fizz” out after the half. I like the improved play by Costner, but he played most of the game, I don’t know about this.

  9. Wulfpack 02/09/2008 at 9:57 PM #

A very poor second half performance. When we are on, man are we fun to watch. But when we are passive, we look like utter crap. I wish Fells would play his ass off for the WHOLE game. I wish we would give the ball to Hickson every 1/2 court possession. I wish Costner would stay seated on the bench b/c he doesn’t play an ounce of defense and is weak on the boards. I wish somebody would kick Vasquez in the nuts. I wish somebody would decide that it’s about damn time to guard Gist.

Anyways, tough loss. Just got out-worked in the 2nd half much like Duke. Got to regroup once again and find a way to get a W.

At least Johnson stepped up and “inserted himself” (Stan Marsh) on offense somehwat.

Somehwat annoying when Maryland drains shots you want them taking ALL-FREAKING-DAY… Osby from 17? Come the freak on.

Nice defense, smirk. Once and for all, the guy’s need to come prepared for ACC intensity when the sh^t hits the fan in the second half. The bottom half of the league will not let you know the pain, but the rest will punk you to no end.

It might be sometime next year when are youth gets served and brings the intensity up a notch. It needs to be a team effort, I don’t care that Fells, BC, Ben and GG have seen it in years past. Until JJ, Javi, MJ and others get psyched about second half ACC BBall games, it’s going to be a long time before we start inching forward.

Tonight Atsur was missed the most. No one gets 15 god dammin’ assist on the that Turkish bull dog. Our PG have got to get mean. Who do we got next?

i think home court adv goes a long way when you get tired. why is it that we have home games against the 2 best teams, but not allowed to play home games against 2 teams that we are competing with for NCAAT spots? It just doesn’t help. BC thursday is a must.

MJ scored some points tonight, but he is also one of our many passive defenders. Threes were rained in over him among others in the second half. I just don’t think he is a leader.

Next three games: at BC, then Clemson and UNC at home. MUST find a way to win at BC.

Looking at the standings, GT is a half game ahead of us at 4-4 and has the tie-breaker. But the Jackets lost to UConn today and are 11-11 on the year. It’s going to be very difficult for them to get into the tourney if they don’t get 9 or 10 wins. This could very much work in our favor when it all comes down to it.

JeremyH, We are just too scripted. Maryland came out playing with emotion after a Gary Williams pep talk a halftime, and we didn’t respond. We kept looking back to the bench for plays that weren’t working, and Maryland just kept surging.

They may been there, but I did not recognize any worthwhile coaching adjustments in this game.

I think defensively we need an identity. Suppossedly Lowe was great at coaching it at the next level and I hope he is just lacking in parts. Slow perimeter defenders, tall players who don’t get their hands up into people.

I like the idea of Williams and Thomas taking minutes away from guys next year on the defensive end. GG will be gone and Horner will get less palying time, and we will see if a defensive identity will usher in an up tempo game Lowe would like to push. You can’t have it the other way around.

“I’m glad Fells finally took some shots but he forced way too many threes.”

Just like in the Duke game, Fells was padding his stats AFTER THE FACT.

“Wish we had continued to push it inside.”

Again, you need a penetrator to open up the inside. We have freshman point guards and a #2 who is the most timid player in the ACC.

I just came from the game live. Things which we could do to improve our chances of winning:

    a) bench Costner
    b) bench Horner
    c) play Fells, Grant, Hickson as much as possible
    d) give Fergie, Harris and Tracy Smith a short

I don’t understand why Hickson, Fells and Grant spend so much time on the bench.

Sid: “The most disappointing thing to me is that we continue to not learn from our mistakes… Gist played a good game but we could have played him tougher.”

  20. Rochester 02/09/2008 at 10:18 PM #

The most disappointing thing to me is watching us turn a 9 point lead into an 11 point deficit in a matter of minutes. It makes me feel like breaking stuff.

  21. redfred2 02/09/2008 at 10:18 PM #

When Fells didn’t commit to the drive enough to draw the defender to him, then passed off to JJ, THE CENTER, on a three on one break, I just about lost it.

Everybody go cheer on the women tomorrow at 4:30 in The House that Case built and help raise money for breast cancer treatment and research.

The radio crew gave the player of the game to Fells. WTF?

  23. redfred2 02/09/2008 at 10:20 PM #

GOOD LORD! Fells gets Wolfpack player of the game.

    I give up.

  24. Sweet jumper 02/09/2008 at 10:21 PM #

Tony and Gary tried to explain the player of the game selection but it made no sense!

  25. Lockes_Dad 02/09/2008 at 10:24 PM #

Any offensive production by Costner was more than negated by his inexplicable nonexistence defensively. It is almost as if he is being paid off, or drugged.
