PackPride Posts An Update on PG John Wall

PackPride has posted an update on John Wall. Wall is one of the top 25 players in the nation and is from Raleigh. We got permission to run this quote:

While he didn’t name leaders, Wall did mention three schools that are recruiting him hard.

“I think [NC] State is really coming after me hard… them, Virginia, and Memphis.”

NC State is the hometown team for Wall, who lives just minutes from the Wolfpack’s campus. His mother would like to see him play close to home but expect Wall to evaluate all of his options before making a decision.

“My mom, she really wants me to go to State,” said Wall. “That is the school she likes. It would be a good fit, but it’s just something I’d like to do. There’s nothing wrong with being here, but I’m just going to look at all my schools and see what I’ll do after that.”

“He didn’t improve between last season and this season…”

so he won’t improve playing for 2 more seasons?

  2. RAWFS 01/03/2008 at 4:38 PM #

packbackr04 — different time, different coach where Inge is concerned. For that matter, same with Scooter Sherrill, a guy I would give a lot to have on this team. Can you imagine Scooter playing against that packed in zone that teams seem to favor against us? Sherrill would be an all-ACC caliber guard in Lowe’s system. He’d darn sure be score at least 18 a night with a bunch of assists with Hickson and Costner out there with him.

Anyway, I think that we’ll see players developing now, especially in regards to playing a more mainstream sort of game.

“so he won’t improve playing for 2 more seasons?”

Thats the whole friggin point. He HAS to improve to go early (something we all agree on). As of now, he has not. So there is no reason, AT THIS POINT IN TIME, to believe he will. If he does improve then I will adjust my position but until there is actual evidence to support that opinion I think he will be here 4 years.

I’m glad to see Stewart get a shot. I bet it will be a short-lived shot if he doesn’t continue the winning trend at WVU, but it’s a shot nonetheless. I liked watching him on the sidelines during that game and you can truly tell he was having fun as were the kids with him. You can tell they all liked him and wanted to win for him. Those kids played their butts off.

Conversations like these irritate me. I mean I want players to develop their asses off, but at NC State, and more importantly FOR NC State. Not just so they can get to “the f’n next level”.

If JJ said he wants to play for title while (((STILL AT))) NC State, I’m one NC State fan who is not going to promote the “one and done” talk.

I’ll bet theres nothing more motivational with respects to recovering from a major injury, then reading the speculation about your own scholarship availability.

    Geez.

  7. Astral Rain2 01/03/2008 at 6:45 PM #

Yeah, haven’t we blasted other schools, like Georgetown, for the waiver wire? I’d rather not get into that here.

  8. Trip 01/03/2008 at 6:57 PM #

    Redfred,

Your right, I guess the recruiting classes in 09/10 have gotten to me some. Can’t throw the current players under the bus, especially someone like Degand who’s been put through so much either and still is there for us.

  9. redfred2 01/03/2008 at 7:54 PM #

    Trip,

I know how you feel, but I think that maybe the start of this particular season is some kind of an anomaly that will soon correct itself. We Wolfpack fans been forced to look forward for so many years because, for some strange reason (???), the players and the teams we had in place already didn’t ever seem to work out quite as we expected they should. Anyway, I think we do have some shortcomings right now, but we also have some great assets. I expect some players will soon start showing us much more than we ever expected. As a matter of fact, most of this team already did, late last season.

I’m confident that this team will soon be playing like, and they will also recapture that same mindset that we all enjoying seeing last season, and once again in Raleigh.

I agree with redfred. This discussion is very irritating, and, generally pointless.

NC State players on scholarship should all graduate and perform to the best of their abililities on the field. I hope they stay, even if they aren’t playing, and improve the graduation rate of our BB program. Speculation on players that might leave or that you want to leave reminds me of the well-worn UNC greyshirt approach.

Doing a better job of evaluating players and offering scholarhips to the right players is far more critical to success that making mistakes and then having to live with it.

RE:WVU coach. Never get engaged after a one night stand. No matter how good it is.

Wall is the type of talent that you get if you can. Like Chris Paul at Wake he can change the level of your program instantly. The other guys can come off the bench gracefully (like Downey did at Wake) and keep up the pressure, I recall Sid wants an uptempo game so depth is key.

Trip – Psycho T will also be 24 in the second semester of his senior year.

  13. packgrad93 01/04/2008 at 9:27 AM #

“So there is no reason, AT THIS POINT IN TIME, to believe he will.”

that shows little faith in the current staff to say a player won’t improve much in 2 seasons.

  14. packbackr04 01/04/2008 at 10:28 AM #

RAWFS^^^ “different time, different coach where Inge is concerned”

oh most definitely, that is why i was remarking to “the defender of hwsnbn” when he was talking about player development. it was not meant to be an indictment of the current staff but moreso of the previous regime and the lack of player development under their guidance. Inge was a better player when he was 17 than he was when he left NC State.. how that happens. i have no idea.

“the previous regime and the lack of player development under their guidance”

    myth

  17. Astral Rain2 01/04/2008 at 11:52 AM #

You can always get better players with time. Blemishes on the reputation and character tend to stay a lot longer then 4 years. Save the crappy behavior for other schools.

  18. packgrad93 01/04/2008 at 12:04 PM #

“The North Carolina Tar Heels made a move with one of the premier prospects in the state of North Carolina. On Thursday night, the Tar Heels extended an offer to Reggie Bullock, one of the state’s elite sophomores.
Bullock, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Kinston (N.C.) High, now holds offers from Indiana, Wake Forest and North Carolina. It could be shaping up to be an ACC tilt between the Heels and the Deacons.”

any idea why we weren’t all over this 5* guy?

  19. TNCSU 01/04/2008 at 12:11 PM #

I thought I read somewhere that he may have some issues with hitting the books, but can’t remember where I read it. I think it’s early for us to offer a SG for the ’10 class. I think we’ll be getting a SG in the ’09 class, but again, that’s just speculation.

  20. redfred2 01/04/2008 at 12:54 PM #

^TNCSU, you don’t believe that, that kid will be an academic all-american at UNC.

  21. haze 01/04/2008 at 3:46 PM #

^ Hard to understand how one could stay off of a HS soph for bad grades. He’s got 5 semesters to get it straight. IIRC, CJ Leslie wasn’t exactly burning up the blackboard prior to our offer. Again, plenty of time to get straight.

Personally, I think offering a sophmore guard (think that’s right) is a tad anxious for UNC. UNC doesn’t need to take chances like this. It’s a little less of a reach to offer a big guy like CJ.

  22. Mike 01/04/2008 at 4:16 PM #

As for recruiting, remember when you take the prettiest girl to the dance, all the other guys are going to be hitting on her. She might even find someone she likes better and leave you after the first dance.

We are pushing our current dates under the bus hoping she will dance with us before the dance is over. Yes, I want the best team possible, but we made commitments to current players and we need to keep that commitment instaed of speculating who we can run off.

  23. pakfanistan 01/04/2008 at 6:17 PM #

You go Mike, mix those metaphors like Betty Crocker on meth!

  24. redfred2 01/04/2008 at 7:08 PM #

“myths”, like the reoccurring fairytale that packgrad93 has painted in his own mind, are generally for young folks who haven’t yet learned any better.
