Niners’ Manny Lawson tears ACL in practice, lost for season

The San Francisco 49ers suffered their first major injury blow of the season Thursday when they learned linebacker Manny Lawson was lost for the season because of a torn ACL.

Lawson suffered the knee injury late in practice Wednesday and a subsequent MRI revaled the tear. He will require season-ending surgery and will eventually be placed on the injured reserve list.

Awful news. For a player who relies almost exclusively on his speed and lateral quickness, this could have major ramifications next season, too.

Manny is a huge favorite of mine. Played against him in HS, he played for my fav college team, and he joined my fav pro team. A funny and great guy. I hope he comes back swinging next year. He is in postion to become a star.
