It could be worse

As bad as football may feel right now to you, realize that it is isn’t this bad in Raleigh.

Regardless of App State’s big win in Ann Arbor…the Mountaineers can never hide from their recruitment video that ranks as one of the all-time best!

Think Les Robinson’s losses to Florida Atlantic and Campbell and one of the UNC-W or G or whichever one it is.

The difference, of course, is that Michigan fans can at least take solace in the fact that they will be be getting a new coach next year while Todd Turner and NC State felt compelled to keep offering Robinson friggin EXTENSIONS!!

My buddy lives in Michigan, and he said that for like 30 years Michigan has called the scores of App State’s football games during Michigan games…as a joke. I am not sure if it is true, but if it is, that is awesome for ASU to go up there and win.

You really need to go look at Sunday’s papers in Michigan. The Ann Arbor News, the Det. Free Press….

Make sure you read the comments section after the game story.

Oh, and definitely read Sunday’s Live Game Blog from the Michigan game.

“How?? How can this be happening???”

Along the lines of noah’s post, here are the comments on the App State game thread from the site SFN linked. Hard not to lol at some of the posts.

If you listened to the State/ASU game you would be fully aware that Michigan lost to the National Champions.

I hope they never form an ACC network…because TWC will never cover it.

as an app alum… i feel the need to gloat here. It has been awesome to see the school perform well the past couple years. When i attended (2000-2004) we were good, but not this good. I have seen some great games there. and as some state fans may thinks it laughable, they are adding on to Kidd Brewer Stadium. Its going to be very nice with the press boxes. I read very recently that ASU is having a hard time scheduling 1A opponents, and that this year, they had a hard time finding a 12th opponent who was willing to play them…. also worthy of note, since this is an NCSU board…. ASU;s AD was Lee’s Associate AD before going to BOONE a couple years ago, and he has done an excellent job since his arrival.

here is a link to Kidd Brewer Expansion

    Too bad we kept Lee.
And some kudos are due to the ASU football program.

I still don’t know how we beat them last year! I had that game penciled in as a loss!

  11. old13 09/04/2007 at 5:44 PM #

^^ And, yyes, it’s time to get rid of Foulup!

I glad to see ASU improving Brewer stadium. Unlike State they figured out that you first build a winning program then upgrade facilities and mug your fans. State bought into the idea of spending tens of millions of dollars, selling lifetime seating rights for teams that are lucky to win four games a year. Lee Fowler should be on America’s Most Wanted. Though I’m very pleased with State’s new coaches these investments hardly had the top coaches in the country beating down the door to come to State.

Kidd Brewer would be proud- His 1937 team shutout all their opponents. Beat that Michigan!

After reading posts from Michigan fans…. this is difficult for me to believe but a lot of them sound even more entitled than some Tarheel and Duke Basketball fans. They got what they deserved. All of the ‘winningest program in college football history’ crap from a school that has only won one shared (and undeserved) national championship since players started wearing face masks makes me want to upchuck.

That said.. if I was a Michigan fan, this would be my all-time favorite T-Shirt:

Yes, yes, this vid has been making the rounds among the App Alumni. Frightening isn’t it? Supposedly its a student project, meant as a joke – but lawd have mercy – its frightening. This is what happens when there are too many magic mushrooms floating around a small valley.

  16. EverettBeez 09/04/2007 at 10:15 PM #

Man, I tried to watch it again to see what was added, and I couldn’t do it. lol.

  17. EverettBeez 09/04/2007 at 10:20 PM #

In case you missed the App game, they just replayed it on Sportssouth, and they will play it again thursday at 10 pm est

Mother of God! What a horrible video – the overlayed Michigan score is the only saving grace.

I swear that video made me throw up a little bit in my mouth….

  19. buttPACKer 09/04/2007 at 11:25 PM #

I still love that video. . . (lol)

Somebody needs to drag that up the mountain and put a stake through it!! (or at least the person who rubberstamped it!)

  20. buttPACKer 09/04/2007 at 11:41 PM #

    Everretbeez,

it was NOT a student project. . . when I first saw a long time ago–a year or so–I remember reading statements from the chancellor and some other admin people: It was as a recruitment tool–for real– to take to the little college fair things at high schools, etc. . . I’d like to see how the numbers worked out on that one! LOL, still LingOL. . .

. . didn’t seem to adversely affect the football program, though!!
    Nice going, Mountaineers!!!!!!!!!

App. State’s AD is Charlie Cobb, who many of you may remember as the starting center on Dick Sheridan’s teams from the late 80s. Seems like he came after Chuck Massaro and just before whichever Redmond brother played center (kenneth?).

  22. MatSci94 09/05/2007 at 12:22 AM #

Cobb was on 850 this afternoon, and said that some store in Columbus, OH ordered >2000 ASU shirts.

As far as how we beat them last year, wasn’t their QB hurt?

  23. pack80 09/05/2007 at 8:18 AM #

thanks a lot, now I’ll have that damn HOT HOT HOT! stuck in my head all day!
    That was awful.

  24. RabidWolf 09/05/2007 at 8:36 AM #

I know a few ASU alums at work, and they keep saying that State was ‘lucky’ to have beaten them last season. My response is always the same….we still beat you…with a QB who was converted to a tight end!!

Props to ASU..great, no, AWESOME win!! Speaking as a Michigan State and NC State fan…ANYBODY who beats the Wolverines is OK in my book!

Now…..why won’t UNX schedule Appy State?? I don’t recall the ‘Holes EVER playing ASU!! Doubt they ever will now! 😛

I suppose I should find it mildly tasteless that they are using an analogy to the A-bombing of Japan during WWII with respect to a football loss. But maybe b/c I’m a heartless, Deadpsin-loving blogger guy – I couldn’t help but admire their clever work, and even feel their pain a little bit. One of the best despair posts I have ever read, and as a State fan, I know about despair posts. Well played, mgoblog…
