You have to have an amazing lack of self-awareness to strut like Travolta at the beginning of Saturday Night Fever when you’re dressed like Donald Duck.

I wonder if he feels like Superman after he puts on the suit. It gives him super powers. LOL….

Sitting in a deer stand on the Roanoke River reading about the Pack on the “smart”phone wondering why it is I have so shamefully found myself with zero desire to attend a football game this year after some 20 odd years of going to as many in a fall as I could possibly make. It’s not that I’m not excited about TOB and where our program is going, but I find myself wanting to insulate my inate over-emotional state that all of us Pack fans seem to inherit the minute we first know we’re a Pack fan for life. As I come into “middleage” perhaps it’s experience that tells me that this season is one of frustrations that will ultimately trump countless ones Pack nation has experienced in the past. I chuckled to myself reading the “other” board the other day and the evidence of Chicken-Little-meltdowns that will definitely erupt before TOB can drag this shell of a team through his first season in Raleigh. It seems that many of our fans have yet to accept the fact that the same we were dupped by the same hype machine that thankfully built the stadium and overall excitement that now breeds unreasonable expectations in our fanbase. I say unreasonable expectations not in the sense that we shouldn’t expect to be an uppertier program but rather that it simply won’t happen overnight. Like it or not our previous staff left us with a horrible offensive line and no quarterback. Jesus Himself couldn’t win regularly without those two key ingredients. It’s like trying to make a good tomato sandwich with mealy greenhouse tomatoes and moldy bread. You can make it, but it won’t do much for the pallet.

And so it is I find myself hunting today instead of waking up and preparing for a fun, beer-fueled afternoon in the Carter-Finley parking lot followed by what could easily be our teams most embarrasing defeat in a long, long time. And it’s not even with any anger, frustration or desparation that I make that statement. There are no doubt much better days for Pack football and I will be there to enjoy them. Till then…

I thought I was watching a UFC fight for a sec there – Rampage Duck v Cougar Liddell

Gawolf: Thought you weren’t a bow hunter? No dove this time please.

  6. GAWolf 09/15/2007 at 8:57 AM #

Today I’m more mosquito-food than hunter. Did just have two little bucks below me for a about an hour chomping some corn. Shooting a two year old buck is sort of like going through all the trouble to tailgate like one is supposed to only to watch us struggle against a D2 team. It sort of feels more like work than exciting fun. I mean it’s fun, but it’s hardly worth the trouble of cleaning up the mess afterwards.

But yeah, I bowhunt since I got a bow from the ladyfriend in exchange for an engagement ring. Not exactly a fair trade but it’s better than nothing I reckon.

Speaking of the fiance, she said you’re banned from our house. Not sure which of us put the energy drink in the freezer but it missed a latenight date with the vodka and yes…. it exploded. That was more upsetting than the gash in the television screen. I mean… who wastes a 3 dollar can of energy drink?

Pull the Pack through today. The boys will certainly need all the help they can get. Count arm flaps for me after their QB overthrows a wideopen receiver. I’m guessing at least three highstepping armflaps should about cover the overall problems with the current state of our football program.

Thankfully, I’ve reached the point in my life where I no longer allow sports teams to ruin my life.

Afterall, I watched the Bosox blow a 7-2 lead last night to the MFYs with my three-year-old nephew right beside me and managed not to expand his vocabulary at all!

    Yay me.

    Stupid bullpen.

    Go State.

the yanks are your best team since all star break with a little good pitching . I see them winning another title.

  10. noah 09/15/2007 at 10:35 AM #

That’s because they came out of the All-star break having to play an 81-game series (seemingly) with the Royals.

They wont get out of the AL.

  11. BJD95 09/15/2007 at 10:43 AM #

I refuse to watch one minute of the baseball playoffs until either the Mets or Yankees are eliminated. Just the mention of another mf subway series makes me want to vomit.

I won $35 in $20 buy-in poker last night, so I’m feeling pretty optimistic. I also dreamed that the Pack started playing really well this year (can’t remember the opponent), so that’s also a good sign.

There is nothing in the world better than venison chili (with no beans). I hate that my deer hunting friend moved to Erie several years ago.

  12. Mr O 09/15/2007 at 11:19 AM #

Gawolf: Sorry about the mess, but I was completely focused on winning the bowling match on WII. You need to get some practice in before the rematch.

Has anyone tried the ESPN360 link lately? I believe Verizon closed the loophole, but if not, please let me know. I was in Chestnut Hill last weekend and I’d like to see if our boys improve this week.

I feel your comments are very much in line with the reality of the situation. But take solace in the fact that TOB wouldn’t want it any other way. He left a succesful program in which to put every ounce of energy he had into on the eve of potentially a break through year to come to a program like the one we have here. The challenges are great, the fan base is solid and many improvements have been put into place to compete at the next level.

Many had the illusion that all we needed was an “editor” to come in, check the current material, cross a few T’s and dot and few I’s. Not the case. We needed someone to rewrite the script, and that is the task TOB and his staff and current players are undertaking. When it begins to take shape the facilities will still be modern enough and the fan base will still be large enough and hungry for better results.

The Yanks will be winning the World Series. Chalk it up.

  16. beowolf 09/15/2007 at 11:54 AM #

I’m glad I don’t care about baseball. But I was up till 1:30 a.m. Monday sweating out MNF because of Fantasy Football. My opponent had Frank Gore, and I had only an 11 point lead. Which would have been 17 if Todd Heap’s touchdown pass hadn’t been waived off for “offensive pass interference” (apparently illegal offensive jersey getting caught in the defender’s hand). As it was, I was only a TD and a 100-yard game away from losing. I won by 2.

As for the Duck, the news yesterday said he was upset that the Cougar stole his “patented” move of doing pushups after his team scored. WTF? EVERY mascot does that, and has for as long as I’ve watched college football.

  17. packpigskinfan23 09/15/2007 at 12:00 PM #

if our team just started winning all of a sudden this year I would be happpy, but will that really take care of the “over infllated sense of who they are and where their going”?

in short, I HATE seeing our team lose, or even struggle for that matter, but if that is what it takes for TOB to get their attention and weed out the bad seeds… then I can put up with it for this season. It also gives him time to build a decent Oline and work up a QB.

  18. redfred2 09/15/2007 at 12:02 PM #

    GA,

Great stuff! I think that maybe if TOB was in your tree stand right now, he’d probably let one fly at anything passing by. Size wouldn’t matter, I’m sure he’d be thinking that he just needs to just get anything positive going right now.

  19. ironhide 09/15/2007 at 12:02 PM #

I have tried the 360 link without any success as well. I can’t get to the games and the 360 loop hole was great. If anyone has any ideas it would be appreciated.

  20. BJD95 09/15/2007 at 12:16 PM #

My wife sat next to the PK’s (Hauschka) parents on a flight in from Boston this morning. They were very complimentary re TOB, and said he would certainly do as well as he did at BC, probably better. They were really impreesed by our facilities and gameday atmosphere.

I miss going to D-1 games so much, I am seriously considering going to GTech games. Alabama & Auburn are out of the question because of my Old Miss degrees. I’ll rot in hell first. But I sure miss tailgating and full stadiums.

I sure understand the need to separate yourself from State because of the feared pain of a loss. I had to go to App St to get away. Even though we’d won the NCAA in b-ball that year, it was too stressful, even as an 18 yo. From Alabama, I can watch on tv or follow it on-line, and if things go bad, I’ll just turn it off.

Picture perfect football day here in Alabama, it will be beautiful in Atlanta too – first cool day of the fall in these parts. How is it in raleighwood?

  22. BJD95 09/15/2007 at 12:50 PM #

Carolina still sucks. All is right in the world.

  23. noah 09/15/2007 at 2:47 PM #

ironhide – no luck there. You have to sign up for AT&T wireless or Verizon to get in now.

Hey, why is Howard the duck beating up a Thundercat?

  25. GAWolf 09/15/2007 at 6:22 PM #

Weren’t there bare duck boobies in Howard the Duck? I’m pretty sure that single-handedly started the underworld trade of furry animal suit porn. I believe Drama from Entourage knows the actual name for such.

In the ground blind this pm. Got a cooler of beer and a radio. Harrison Beck is not very articulate. But he’s a flippin’ Beowulf compared to some of our guys. Go Pack…geterdid.
