Tudor: Bigger & Better Things Ahead

We will keep our game entry untouched and wanted to highlight Caulton Tudor’s piece in its own entry this morning.

The Wolfpack, 16-14 overall, has done more than enough to turn Sidney Lowe’s first season as men’s basketball coach into a ringing success.

Although former coach Herb Sendek’s teams won 105 games from 2002 through last season and went to the NCAA Tournament in each of those five seasons, it’s safe to say that the future hasn’t looked brighter for State basketball in a long time.

And with the exception of Atsur, everyone on the Pack roster will be back next season.

State, on the other hand, has plenty of confidence. The Pack’s direction is good, too. Win or lose today, Lowe has elbowed his way into the Triangle neighborhood. His team may not be able to do better than the NIT this season, but bigger and better things lie ahead.

” we at least have the PG transfer from Tenn right?”

Farnold Degand is a point guard transfer from Iowa State. Marques Johnson is a combo guard from Tennessee.

Javier Gonzalez (or is it Vasquez?) will be the backup pg next year.

I see the obsession has necessitated the obligatory Cedar’s Choice post:

  3. CedarGroveWolf 03/09/2007 at 2:22 PM #

What choice? Sid is the coach. No need to lie about Herb though.

I noticed on the updated Kenpom RPI’s that Ga. Tech fell all the way to #50 with the loss to Wake. Surely they are still safe but it has to make them a little nervous.

The last time NCSU split or better with every Big 4 school was the ’88-89 season. If you were 12 then you’d be 30 now!
You can be 30 years old and really not understand what it means to go toe-to-toe with Duke and unx-xh. You just wouldn’t understand the whole rivalry.
Good news! “Old school” is back in session!

Cedar, I was exaggerating to a degree for sure, in 10 seasons certainly there was a game or two (or three) that he out rebounded some ACC foe.
However, the point that Herb teams, and his entire offensive system, did not stress/value rebounding I do think is indisputable.

Cedar, I’m an economist; I know that REAL CHOICES are the product of lip service but by actual actions. We call it “revealed preference,” and yours is well known and a very tired act here.

Old codgers like me know what it’s like and we all look to the heavens and say “Thank You!”

To you youngsters 30 or younger, you are going to finally know how it feels to be a Wolfpack fan like it was in the golden ages of State basketball. You will have pride, you will have hope and most of all, you will have faith. Enjoy the latter, especially.

It’s a long shot to go to the Dance this year. But it is NOT a longshot for NC State to once again make its presence known to the nation.

The Pack, my friends, is back!

YOU JUST NEVER EVER GIVE UP! Thanks Sid for renewing my enthusiasm!

    VaWolf82:
“How far is it from Mebane to Cedar Grove?”

According to Mapquest, it’s about 18 miles. (Assuming it’s the Cedar Grove in Orange County instead of the Cedar Grove in Davidson County or Randolph County)

How about an olive branch? Or we bury the hatchett? Does either of those sound good there CEDAR? JK 😉

I just think he’s good enough to go early. I hope he doesn’t… but I think our staff should plan for not having him for 4.

Hey. I was a freshman at NCSU in 88-89.

I remember the pack of the 80’s. I remember the pack of the 70’s. I remember falling to sleep on the concrete floor under by parents legs at Reynolds. I rember Monte Towe being my biggest hero. I remeber staying at the hotel Hillsbough street not far from the bell tower and walking across campus to get to Reynolds for the game. I remember waking through that tunnel just before reynolds and being in awe. I remember walking in Reynolds and being in awe. I remember hoping I did not fall down the steps of Reynolds. I remember sitting as still as possible with my mouth shut for entire games. I remember taking my firends just to impress them. I remember getting an Orange Cream popcycle on the way home if we won. I remember my father smiling the entire 2 hour ride home after a win. I remember the original Clyde the Glyde. I remember Hawkeye Whitney. I remember David Thompson. I remeber Tommy B. I remember Norm Sloan. I remember the loudness and proudness of the crowd.

I remember DW breaking his ankle in the VA game. I remember laying on the floor at my parents house wacthing the 83 NCAA. I remember Googs using his forearm in a most amazing fashion to get people out of his way. I remember Sidney Lowe. I remember Jimmy V. I remember accidentaly being directly in his path and coming nose to nose with him, him looking me straight in the eyes, and me stepping out of his way as he was heading to the locker room at half time of a great State/UNC game without him saying a word. I remember beating Duke, UNC, Maryland, and Wake the last game of every year. I remember 19 years straight of this during the 70’s and 80’s.

You know what I remember most. I remember most what it all felt like. You know what it felt like. It felt like it fills right now. It felt like that all the time.

^ I think he could possibly go. He has certainly shown more on the court and more consistantly than we got from our first rounder last year.

However, I think the pros are really liking this new one year in school. They get to see the player more and against better competition than HS and the best part is THEY DON”T HAVE TO PAY THEM!!!!

I think they are more intriqued by Costner now than earlier, but there are a number of players around the country that put up numbers like him. I think they will love to see him stay and get a little stronger and bigger and then continue to hone his game. But one than one more season? Could the NBA possibly be reigning itself in? ????? Nah!

I would think that they are safe…but I guess nothing will be definite until Sunday.

Based on State’s seed in ’05 and ’06, GT is in line for a 10 seed.

    just FYI:

i cut out a picture of “he whom we are to forget,” then acquired a dollop of Elmer’s Glue. . . then i stuck the picture to the head of my priopistic penis and very angrily thumped it around. . .

    then i smoked a marlboro.

About time for the State vs. UVA thread.

  19. zahadum 03/09/2007 at 5:08 PM #

Fortunately for us, though, Costner’s position is absolutely loaded, draft-wise, already this year. Durant, Dudley, Wright (Julian), Green, Thornton, Brewer, Tucker, Terry, maybe Thad Young.

Whereas for Ced last year, there weren’t very many good big men available, which really moved him up.

So we should have him for at least another year.

I was just thinking, when we beat Virginia tonight, we will have a win over UNX, 2 wins over VT, a win over Duke, and a win over Virginia. There is still a slim chance that State can play it’s way into the NCAAT without winning the ACCT. Any thoughts? Tell me if I’m wishful, or just nuts.

  22. the_phisherman 03/09/2007 at 9:55 PM #

That’s just nuts. There is no way we make the tournament without winning Sunday.

    Primacyone,

As a freshman 25 years before in 1963, I can share your memories too! Some things should never change and the main one is “Excellence” at NC State. Thank you Sidney Lowe, for bringing it back home!

Yep, this feels good. Attaboy, Sid
