State to Host Marist

NC State fans will get an opportunity to show their appreciation to their beloved Wolfpack after Marist upset Oklahoma State tonight. This evening’s events create an opportunity for NC State to host Marist on Friday night at 9:30pm (television -ESPNU).

Many fans would like to see State play the game in Reynolds Coliseum – especially those fans that remember the amazing/electric atmosphere’s that accompanied State’s NIT appearances in 1997 and 1998.

But, NC State may have a ‘venue problem’ as the RBC Center is scheduled to host a Josh Groban concert and Reynolds Coliseum is scheduled to host a gymnastics meet at 7pm.

If the gymnastics meet can’t be moved up in the day, then we hope that the meet would be shifted somewhere like Dorton Arena, Peace, Saint Mary’s, Meredith, Broughton, Cardinal Gibbons or some other local facility.

One of the members of our community has shared the following:

The NIT website shows our game as “Marist vs. N.C. State” while all the other confirmed 2nd round matchups are listed as “at” the higher seed.

Our game is listed is being on ESPNU at 9:30, but with another 2nd round game also on ESPNU at 9:00. One of the four games listed is on Saturday at noon, rather than Friday night, so there is some precedent of Saturday games.

If those listings (particularly the Friday night TV listings) are accurate, it might be possible to move the game to Saturday. If it is the sole game on a given network in its timeslot, probably no chance at all for a move.

Presumably, there is no possibility of using RBC at any point Sat-Mon, due to the NCAA women’s tournament.

You could have it at Cameron, the Dean Dome, or G’boro just to have a home game(if not some other venue already mentioned). No excuse to work this out somehow. Reynolds on Saturday would be awesome.

This is probably a stupid question that no one knows, but how long does a gymnastics meet last and how long do you suppose it takes to clear the gym of all of the equipment?

Man, I would love me some Reynolds. I’d bring the whole family. That would be awesome.

If we win the next game, Would that be a 20 win season for Sid in his first year?? I made a bet with a Herb Supporter that Herb would get 20 Ls before Sid get 20 wins. Safe bet.

Wait, isn’t this game on Thursday at 9:30? That’s what my NIT bracket says (lol NIT bracket).

  6. PurplePeopleEaters 03/14/2007 at 12:02 AM #

nvm ignore that. I got confused as I was looking at the date timer on my computer and didn’t think about it being after midnight.

IMO reynolds would be the best spot for the game. That or take it to Marist. It would be embarassing to play it in a podunk little gym of a high school team or to play in Cameron or the dean dome.

This is a fun team to watch play. The biggest reason I want to see them win is not to put a W in the win column, but simply so I can see them play again.

Seriously, Josh Groban? Can’t we kick him outta there? I want this team to have 19 thousand fans cheering for them on their home court. The RBC Center!

This bracket says the second round is March 15, 16, 17 & 19. Presumably any one of those days can be used.

They better move the fricken gymnastics event that almost no one will attend anyway. Forfeit, whatever, but get ’em out of Reynolds so we can have a WONDERFUL game that’ll have that old building rockin!

This should have all been figured out in advance by Uncle Jed. If he’s competent there is a contingency plan in place for us to host. No excuse for not doing this ahead of time.

I had the “what if we hosted the game in the Dean Dome?” thought last night. That would be the strangest thing to see, wouldn’t it?

Watched the game at Amedeos last night.. It seemed like we were AT the game in how crowded the room was and all the cheers going out for the pack.
Excellent game last night. i wish this team had showed up 2 weeks earlier.

I remember when people wanted to expand Reynolds instead of building a new place, some said to play at the Dean Dome during construction.

The Yankees played 2 years at Shea Stadium when Yankee Stadium was being rebuilt in the 70s. The FB Giants played at Yale during those 2 years. A few years later they opened Giants stadium in NJ

Btw, what happened to that Youtube video? I had to look at the link all day (and watched it once without sound), but when I finally get home last night and tried to watch it, it had been removed for a “terms of use violation.”

I’ve been a huge slacker this year and haven’t made the trek up to Raleigh to see a game (and have never seen a game in Reynolds), so here’s hoping I get a chance to redeem myself on Friday.

Watching a game in Reynolds was truly great fun. During my time on campus I played in the pep band, which prior to Herb coming in was right under the basket near our bench. It was truly amazing to watch a game from that vantage point. I was in the front row of the pep band, so we were literally standing on the concrete about 10 feet away from the floor with nothing but the cheerleaders and the cameramen in between us and the floor. Granted you couldn’t tell much of what was going on at the other end from their, but you really felt let you were part of the game when the action was on your end.

After Herb came he moved us to the other end of the floor in the corner opposite the benches. Still excellent seats though. I could understand his point (the team couldn’t hear well during time outs when the band was playing since we were so near the team) but it was a bit of a letdown. Did make you wonder though why Les never complained 🙂

I really can’t wait to attend another game in Reynolds. Hopefully they get the arrangements worked out. The sound in that place is absolutely crazy. When the crowd gets into it you would have to yell as loud as you could for the guy next to you to hear you. Think Marist has ever experienced anything like that?

The Youtube video removal might be a result of the huge billion dollar Viacom law suit or one like it.

And Texpack — I think we need to cut uncle Jed some slack on this one. Who could plan ahead for something like this.

Two tickets to a first round NIT game – $30. Tolls to Philadelphia – $15. Parking – $12. Two philly cheese steaks and shakes – $21. Seeing a dog tired Wolfpack team take it to the Drexel Dragons leaving everything out on the floor – priceless. Got all of three hours sleep last night but wouldn’t trade it for anything. Great job pack! Keep it going.

Just curious. On Thursday there will be a ton of NCAAT games on all day long. Why put an NIT game in on that date?

If the NCAA wants to make any money off the NIT, doesn’t it seem logical to schedule those games as fillers on the NCAAT off days? A Mon-Thurs NIT game would be easier to accommodate and give our guys some down time to rest.

  20. joe 03/14/2007 at 7:54 AM #

The NCAA plays Thurs-Sun. , it’s very hard to not play on all 4 of those days.

  21. Texpack 03/14/2007 at 7:56 AM #

^Bo – Jed has known since Sunday that this was a possibility. I’m not saying that Reynolds and/or the RBC should be held open for this possibility. I’m saying that he’s had a couple of days to work out a contingency plan to allow us to play a home game if we won and things broke our way in Mobilehoma. Why wouldn’t you have gone to work on that first thing Monday morning?

  22. RedTerror29 03/14/2007 at 7:59 AM #

There’s been some comparisons of this year’s run with the first year run in ’97. How could we tell we had brighter things to come this time around? This game says a lot. The game met EVERY criteria for a letdown game…and we still came out and beat a good team. That’s one heck of a coaching job.

It looks like Sidney has the makings of one heck of a tournament coach (not surprising given the Coach V and NBA background).

Adroit coachspeak as well. Pregame he said something to the effect of, “I don’t doubt their ability to win, just my ability to get them to focus.”

  23. TNCSU 03/14/2007 at 7:59 AM #

I’m sure he’s working a plan. If it has to be Friday night, I would bet that the Gymnastics meet would be moved, and we play in Reynolds. I would doubt that they move the Groban concert.

Anyone know how or if there are student tickets for this game? My friends and I were gonna get sloshed for my 21st, but that will have to wait till later since there’s some bball to take in before the festivities 🙂

Maybe we can fly Herb in to “fire up the troops”. I am sure they would love to see their former mentor.
