Interesting Scrimmage Report- Brown, Blackman Didn’t Play

Here is the closed scrimmage report from the News & Observer. It is pretty amazing that the article didn’t mention, or mention why Brown and Blackman didn’t appear on the stat sheet.

    PLEASE POST…
This week, former NCSU swimmer (and current student) Cullen Jones was part of the 4x100m relay team winning the gold medal at the World Swimming Championships. Then, yesterday, Jones takes the silver in the 50m Freestyle posting a time of 21.94 seconds. Only centimeters behind fellow American Benjamin Wildman-Tobriner who posted a time of 21.88 seconds.
Jones, who lives in Raleigh, N.C., and plans to graduate from North Carolina State in the fall, has enjoyed the life of a pro swimmer, but he said he is trying not to let the financial rewards of his hard work interfere with his swimming goals. He wants to set a world record in the 50 free. He wants his 100 free to improve. He wants to be on the U.S. relay team. He wants to go to the Olympics in Beijing next summer.

My bet is injuries. Both those guys were nagged with them last year. It would be nice to KNOW though wouldn’t it. Crack reporting for ya there.

^agree. Blackman missed the spring game last year due to a hamstring or a knee.

Injuries or not, Eugene is going to compete for more playing time due to his pass catching abilities. If it turns out that he can help out in the protection aspect (i.e. pass blocking), then Brown and Baker will really get a run for their money. It’s not all about carry’s, yards, and TD’s. It’s doing the little things like picking up the blitz, and not caughing up the football, and those are areas our very talented TB’s could use the most help on.

The absence of Blackman could be the most troubling. We need someone in the receiving core to clear out space for the TE’s. Blackman fits the role perfectly. Hopefully he gets in there and starts taking his reps soon. It goes with out saying that he means a ton to the special teams as well.
