Vitale: Lowe One of Next Generation of “Great Coaches”

Link

Though the Wolfpack has been on a roller coaster during this season, Sidney Lowe has gotten generally great reviews from the press. Dick Vitale heaped some praise today on Coach Lowe in his USA Today column:

[Who] is ready to make a name big time? Some names to keep in mind: Karl Hobbs, George Washington; Mark Turgeon, Wichita State; Jim Christian, Kent State; Chris Lowery, Southern Illinois; John Pelphrey, South Alabama; Jeff Capel, Oklahoma; Sidney Lowe, North Carolina State; and Todd Lickliter, Butler.

“But only now, and based on present tense events”

No, I stated it before the season started & have stood by it. What were your expectations before the season?

“What you’re basically saying is that you think that there is a ceiling to coaching in Raleigh because of the proximity of UNC and Duke”

never once said it or though it. NCSU could be a top 10 program just as unc or duke.

“your very limited expectations for the NC State basketball program in general”

my expectations are NCAA’s every season, top25 rankings, occasional ACC titles & deep NCAA runs.
    yours higher?

Like i said, respond to what I say instead of what you think I mean. I feel like JB.

Oh well, where does what you are constantly stating and seem to be still defending, stand among all of those expectations.

no titles or deep NCAA runs, very disappointing. Not enough talent to do either consistently, a lot of which was out of his control. He could have taken us to where we wanted to be, but a lot of the fan base gave up. (not that I blame them) It was time for a change, but the pot shots & bashing is uncalled for IMO.

Cedar, if I was a smart lawyer I’d rest my case on your last statement and just let it stand out there on it’s own. It pretty much sums up all of my earlier and so-called “guessing.”

Now who, or how, and where are you getting that the recruiting efforts were hampered by anyone other than the coach himself? That is considering that he was fortunate enough to be recruiting out of the top conference in the land, and from one of three programs that were, AND STILL ARE, the most successful programs in that conference. Let’s just consider the ACC title irrelevant, and concede it to the other two powerhouses for a whole decade of coaching in the ACC, he still couldn’t put anything together that was even close to being competitive with the majority of the other 62 teams in NCAA tournament field.

But, you say…”He could have taken us to where we wanted to be.”

Like I said earlier, at least in your mind, he already had.

A lot of his top talent over the years left early for unusual reasons & 2 others had major knee injuries. All of which can’t be blamed on him 100% & would not have continued. Recruiting wasn’t a problem, the talent didn’t stick around long enough.

“Like I said earlier, at least in your mind, he already had”

Never said he took us where we wanted to be, he was on the way. Would he have gotten us there, we’ll never know.

^I’m hopeful that the administrators of this site will not allow CedarObsessive to poison this blog. My sense is that they are tolerant and objective, but that above all they wanted to create and maintain a site dedicated to the enjoyment of those who love the Stare and want to follow our Wolfpack teams more closely.

I fear that the ice may be thin and HerbarGrove is wearing heated boots.
