More Awards for Weekend Performance

The Wolfpack moves on to Atlanta tonight for a 7pm tip time vs Georgia Tech. You can check here throughout the day for previews of the game.

Today will be the last time that we wallow in happiness from Saturday, but we needed to memorialize more of the applause that Sidney Lowe’s Wolfpack earned for the win. Please scroll through our front page for numerous

* Dick Vitale called the Wolfpack his “Team of the Week” and Sidney Lowe as his “Coach of the Week” (Link)

TEAM OF THE WEEK: North Carolina State

Sidney Lowe had to be proud of his Wolfpack after back-to-back wins over teams that were leading the ACC at the time of their game. First came a stunner at Virginia Tech, followed by a big victory over Roy Williams’ Tar Heels.

COACH OF THE WEEK: Sidney Lowe, NC State

Most prognosticators figured the Wolfpack would contender for the basement in the ACC. Engin Atsur has been sidelined for much of the season. Andrew Brackman opted for baseball. NC State stunned Virginia Tech and North Carolina and let me tell you, Lowe is going to be a star down in Raleigh. He has a cool demeanor and he will get the job done.

* Sports Illustrated also named the Pack “Team of the Week”. (Link)

* So did The Sporting News (Link)

* Andy Katz got closest to ‘apologizing’ at ESPN where they proclaim that NC State rules the Triangle! (Link)

Can’t say I saw this coming. That would be a lie. But what I did see way back in November, when NC State came back to beat Michigan in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge, was a team that had plenty of heart, desire and passion, and believed in everything its first-year coach said.

Every game will still be a struggle for the Wolfpack, but be certain about this: NC State won’t be an easy out under Sidney Lowe. This week, the Wolfpack became the headline team in The Triangle — and with UNC and Duke as competitors, that’s something to savor.

I like Olbermann when he sticks to sports but he rarely does.

I wish Olbermann would find a way to do more sports commentary. He has a great insight into sports. Truly one of the best sports commentators I’ve ever heard. I still think of Dan Patrick and Keith Olbermann hosting SportsCenter as the “golden age” of ESPN. I really enjoyed what they had to say.

I think ESPN really started downhill with the loss of Olbermann and Tom Mees coupled with the “need” for everyone to be another Berman

gene^ my favorite espn era was craig kilborn…… “release, rotation, splash”

he was on at the same time as olberman and patrick, but Kilbie was the best…. now all we get to hear is stu scott yelling at us in some form of ebonix that only he thinks is funny.

I thought “Craigers” did a better job with the Daily Show than Stewart, but that’s me.

Olberman is out there. Have you ever watched his show on MSNBC?

Anyways, where is the best place to find out where to watch/listen any given State game? I’m in NY and it would help to know a good place to start. Thanks! (ps, I don’t have XM… anymore)

If you’re a right-winger you’d react to it like liberals react to Hannity, O’Reilly, et. al. – to be nice you wouldn’t like it. Again, people who like Olbermann would say Hannity, O’Reilly, et. al. are “out there”.

Olbermann has become pretty political, so liking or disliking his show has more to do with your political views, than Keith’s ability as an announcer / commentator, which I think is still pretty good.

At lunch, I tried to give Rome one more chance. He said “I don’t want to talk about football any more, we talked about that all last week and yesterday.” Then he said: “I want to talk about college basketball” and proceeded to go on a rant for 5-7 minutes about ham sandwiches and some coach. Then he moved back to football. I’m out.

Make sure you read the comments in that Ga. Tech story. Lots of yellow jacket fans are shockingly naive on how the world works.

  11. tractor57 02/06/2007 at 1:34 PM #

Too bad they are now being dragged into the real world. Money talks and .#@ walks.

Actually I’m neo-libertarian. At least Hannity has both sides come on his show. From what I’ve seen (albeit only 3 shows) Olberman has people reinforcing his own opinions. I prefer Tucker at 6pm, he seems to be in the middle as good as anyone else.
To my first post though, where can I find tv listings for State games????? I’m in NY and need to know if it’s on ESPN7 or DirectTV channel 982727. Meaning, do I go to the local sports bar and watch it or stay home and refresh the box score on yahoo! sports?

If you want to hear someone lousy that thinks he’s Jim Rome, listen to TJ the Brick (I think, after listening to his nonsense that his last name is spelled incorrectly) on late night Fox sports radio on 850. He is obnoxious and has actually said he’s not on the radio to inform us but to have us give a good ‘take’ or BS the way Rome’s people do. Last winter I swear he was drunk on the show. His voice sounded worse that usual and extremely slurred. He topped it off by talking about some cute co-eds he once was with in his younger days. And his icing on the cake was the night after Hurricane Katrina. Why the Fox people feel they always have to crack on CNN I don’t know, but he talked about how the people at the other network had sensationalized the storm and every thing was fine in New Orleans. This was about 130 a.m. so it was probably about the time the levies were giving way.

Rome does have some good guests but I can’t stand his going on and on about something he said previously just to hear himself talk. He does love the sound of his own voice. And, I believe TJ got his gig by being one of Rome’s regular callers/clones. If you think Rome gets obnoxious, listen to TJ. This sure is hard for an NC State grad to say but I sure do miss that hour of relief the Logan Zone gave us from Jim Rome.

Rome seems to be mostly about pro sports too, as is most of the country it seems. I wish there were someone who talked more about college sports. I miss the G-Spot on 850 the Buzz. Good show. :o\

Bran, tonight’s game is on FSN tonight, so it looks like it’s the sports bar for you. 😀 Althought it’s pretty much a worthless site, http://www.gopack.com does list all the State sports’ schedules, monthly. Hope that helps.

“Hi, I’m Jim Rome. I comment on asinine things with a perspective that I think is clever. Then I repeat it using different words. Then I repeat it using the same words. Then I repeat it using different words again. Then I repeat it using some combination of previously used words. And I am redundant, and I repeat myself. And i will incessantly harp on this point over and over and over again. And if you change radio stations to a classic rock station, listen to “Stairway to Heaven” or “Freebird” in its entirety and then switch back to my show, I will still be harping endlessly the same asinine point about which I think I am so damned clever. And the whole time, I still think I am too clever for my audience.”

The only redeeming thing about Jim Rome (IMO) is that he gave us a top ten greatest TV moment when he got punched by Jim Everett. It’s right up there with Geraldo getting chair-slammed by skinheads.

    Just sharing my love…

  18. gumbydammit 02/06/2007 at 2:59 PM #

and as for CNNSI naming us “team of the week” and then comparing us to Eli Manning – W-T-F?!?!?!?! THAT is not a compliment in anyone’s book.

  19. BoKnowsNCS71 02/06/2007 at 3:02 PM #

    You nailed him Gumby.

  20. kool k 02/06/2007 at 3:38 PM #

According to CNNSI, Atsur had nothing to do with leading us to two victories last week. And the Eli analogy? Wasn’t he traded for a quarterback that would have made more sense?

  21. dj9686 02/06/2007 at 3:38 PM #

Someone needs to email this blog to http://www.haveatake.com. ha, ha… I’m sure he’d have some twisted means of belittling our opinion on him during tomorrow’s show. And, yes, Gumby, you did nail it, exatly what I was thinking. Extremely repetitive and he often likes to make those “Tim the Toolman” type grunting noises but they don’t suggest the humor Tim’s character did and just sound ill-willed.

Ok, that time I got it but I keep getting these “your comment is awaiting moderation” statements.

A little of the subject of Media, and more on the subject of how this good PR may help recruiting — it seems we are still pursuing a big man in the class of ’08 – any ideas, opinions? There’s Walker in Wilmington, Baciu in Asheville, and Sampson IV in Ga. Any chance that Big Lew may lose his scholly?? Can any knowledgeable folks explain how that works? If not, he’s definitely a medical redshirt for this year, right?

  25. dj9686 02/06/2007 at 4:01 PM #

I finally saw the situation with Big Lew addressed in this past Saturday’s N&O. The severity of his knee injury required surgery and he’s medically redshirting this year. I don’t know if he’s going to be encouraged to come back but hopefully we won’t do one of these Steve Spurrier deals where we put the pressure to leave on recruits who aren’t living up to their expectiations. There is also some 7-foot Romanian to whom the Wolfpack and several other high-profile programs are offering a scholarship.
