Football Dates Trickling (Updated 1/20 9pm)

September 1: Central Florida @ NC State

The Tom O’Brien era at NC State will open against George O’Leary’s University of Central Florida Golden Knights on September 1, 2007.

Click here for a link to UCF’s announcement and click here for some related comments from the N&O’s ACCNow blog.

In addition to the Golden Knights, NC State is slated to host Wofford and Louisville in 2007; Louisville is rumored to be a September 29th game. The Wolfpack will also travel to Greenville to play East Carolina because Lee Fowler is a big p*$$y and won’t say no to people that he believes can help/hurt his potential future professional advancement.

This link will take you to more information about NC State’s future non-conference football schedule.

September 8: NC State @ ECU

State is set for a trip to ECU. Highlighted in this entry at the N&O

North Carolina and N.C. State, for the first time in a single season, will go to East Carolina for football games in the 2007 season.

In what is certain to be a boost for ECU season ticket sales, the Pirates are scheduled to host the Wolfpack on Sept. 8 and the Tar Heels on Oct. 20.

There is a slight possibility that both games dates could change, officials at NCSU and UNC are relatively certain that the dates are solid.

Let’s face it….. the reason some are so passionately against, or for a NCSU v. ECU matching up in football is- because it matters. It matters in recruitng: were have NC State’s NFL draft picks come from? (hint, Richlands, etc. are in E.Carolina). It matters in bragging rights: all you have to do is look down your neighborhood at the NCS, UNC and ECU flags in yards. It matters in packed stadiums: Look at the top 20 crowds in the history of Carter Finley and Dowdy Ficklen. It matters in North Carolina: the fan base for both programs is virtually spread throughout North Carolina. Hell, ECU’s second and third largest hubs of alumni are Raleigh and Greensboro. It matters…. and I have no problem with it. Should be every other year. Both stadiums are 1 hour drive apart. The fan bases live all around both areas. If you don’t like it- it’s hard to hide behind playing Coastal Carolina, Arkansas State or Souther Miss as reasons. Those are the teams we forgo for this matchup. No contest which is best for the game. I’m willing to accept any proof by the passionate few who exclaim we have given up a series with Ohio State, Michigan, So.Cal. because of ECU…. I’m open to the facts you present…. Otherwise, it’s a great series and with 12 games a year it’s a great inter-section matchup every couple of years which I look forward to playing. Now its time to start winning the match up in a consistent basis & the true excuses (those plainly just afraid to lose to a neighbor team), those excuses won’t be needed. In TOB we trust. Get it done.

good point partialqualifer — if we beat the hell out of ECU several times in a row, their desire to schedule us will go down, and our desire to not schedule them can win out. TOB – do your stuff

the thing that really ticks me off is us having to play them more often than UNC does

Playing ECU at their place helps us alot more if we beat them there than if we beat them here. I know everyone looks at them like they are sorry but they were a bowl team this year and if they have a good season next year and we beat them in Dowdy-Ficklen then it would help us at the end of the year if we have a good season. I am all for it.

Playing the game in Greenville is a big boost for the economy in eastern NC, as mentioned by previous posters. I am all for that. Everyone wants to play the Ohio State’s and Notre Dame’s of the world, and who wouldn’t. But before you can be a national power, you need to be a regional power. Let’s become the best team in the state, then win our division, then when the conference. Until we accomplish that, being a national contender or getting our “props” from ESPN and the pre season pubs just isn’t going to happen.
I am pleased with everything I have seen from O’Brien so far.

Here is the deal……stop being a bunch of p*$$ys. Quit bitching about being made to play ECU b/c of the NC government. Remember….this is the same gov’t that gives State and UNC everything they want……with ECU getting whatever is left over.

So what….they made ya’ll play us in football…..they were just trying the make up for screwing us the last ….uh….I don’t know…….100 years. Suck it up and quit bitching so much. Geez…ya’ll come off like a bunch of silver spoon whiners.

Attn SFN: In response to the minimum iq standard for this website…….is that book smarts….or what actually works in the real world?

[…] This year’s “official foootball schedule entry” was a little disjointed because we were working hard to piece together as much of the schedule as possible BEFORE it was released. Since NC State has announced the kickoff times and television situation for the Wolfpack’s first three games of the 2007 season, we thought this would be a good place to consolidate our “2007 Schedule Entry”.
