With Friends Like This…

As habitues of SFN are well aware, our writers (including your obedient servant) get occasional rhubarbs from those decrying the site’s alleged “negativity” – cliched shorthand for, “writing things about NC State that fail to display blind optimism worthy of MAD’s Alfred E. Neuman.” Our “negativity,” these posters claim, causes harm to NC State.

Well, I’d argue that taken to extremes, certain head-in-the-sand types cause far more harm to NC State than anything scribbled by SFN’s electronic pens. This is particularly the case when the person in question’s a blithering idiot – such as, if his letter to editor in today’s N&O is any indication, this guy:

Ousting coaches reeks of ‘bottom line’

UNC and NCSU administrators’ actions by firing coaches John Bunting and Chuck Amato is a clipping violation on the 50-yard line, in clear public view.

The N.C. State personnel act was kicked out of the game. The gridiron became the board room with the bottom line — money.

Such action is odiferous protocol. The coaches have higher moral and ethic principle than those that dismissed them from servicing the youth that play the game.

Emmett Bailey Jr.

I’ve cringed for years at the screeds submitted to the newspapers by some of our more bumpkineque supporters, but this incohent and risible letter takes first prize for Gumpism. Letters such as Mr. Bailey’s do far more damage to NC State’s reputation than someone on this site pointing out little issues such as Sendek’s record against Carolina or Amato’s media gaffes.

Please, Mr. Bailey, don’t write the newspapers any more. With friends like you (assuming you are a friend, and not a Tar Hole fan displaying that breed’s frequent level of literary eloquence), NC State doesn’t need enemies.

This man, such as he seems to be, is probably one of the many shmucks that got up to leave after Daniel’s 4th qtr. INT during the BC game. Hell, hemay have been one of the folks that looked like deer in headlights when Dunlap made that excellent catch in the end zone. I sit in the new end zone seats, and could do nothing but laugh my Irish ass off at the looks on those faces! Get real, ALL TRUE WOLFPACK FANS STAY TILL THE CLOCK READS 0:00, REGARDLESS OF THE SCORE OR CIRCUMSTANCE!!!

Sorry about that, kinda went on a rant.

  3. Cardiff Giant 12/03/2006 at 2:16 PM #

    ^ Indeed. Interesting, thank you.

There’s nothing in his letter to imply that he’s a Wolfpack fan or that he attended any Wolfpack games. In fact, if I had to guess, I’d say he wasn’t much of a sports fan at all. Otherwise, he would have probably supported the dismissal of two coaches who were not “getting the job done”.

The risk of being fired is the nature of the coaching game and is exactly the reason they get paid the big money in the first place. Neither coach is hurting for employment right now.

Cardiff Giant well said…I think Mr. Bailey by his letter to the N&O tells an oh to often story…someone that lives life 90% of the time with his head in the sand and now he thinks he is taking a stand…kind of like when a beauty pageant contestant says that she wants “World Peace”. I don’t think Mr. Bailey cares one bit about college football let alone anything about NC State, the Tar Holes and World Peace…IMHO πŸ™‚

This letter is absurd. I can’t believe it made the paper.

  7. redfred2 12/03/2006 at 2:44 PM #

“I canÒ€ℒt believe it made the paper.”

Come on now teacher, that is even more absurd, than the satement itself.

  8. redfred2 12/03/2006 at 2:46 PM #

^…”statement” itself. Typical boo boo on my part.

  9. teacher 12/03/2006 at 2:57 PM #

True. I just figured SOMEBODY wrote SOMETHING that made a little more sense. I guess that’s how the N&O got its reputation.

  10. REDforman 12/03/2006 at 3:00 PM #

Smart people don’t write to the N&O, they have better things to do, like keep up their blog

do the folks at Fox know that it is not UNC and Virginia Tech playing???? Why the UNC and Vatech commercials? None for State or UVA…just sayin’

  18. redfred2 12/03/2006 at 4:31 PM #

With less than we’ve had in ten years, though I’d argue even longer than that, but who cares now, we are down by ONE POINT at halftime, ON THE ROAD and IN THE ACC!!!

What else can be said to try to defend any single aspect of the PAST DECADE. THE FUTURE of WOLFPACK basketball is being demonstrated RIGHT NOW!!!

  20. dthompson44 12/03/2006 at 4:42 PM #

wonder why UVA isn’t pressing all over–seems like an obvious tactic…

  21. REDforman 12/03/2006 at 4:46 PM #

If we break the press we will score, wow it’s weird saying that, but we will be more tired later, and they will press

  22. dthompson44 12/03/2006 at 4:54 PM #

ten minutes left and we’re already in the bonus–excellent
