Smith is A Star

Tracy Smith enters tonight’s GlaxoSmithKline Holiday Tournament Showcase game as a bonafide star. Mt. Zion will face Aston (Pa.) American Christian tonight at 9 p.m in Reynolds Coliseum.

The N&O ran a nice piece on him that deserves mention. It can be seen by clicking here.

“The light switch turned on and he’s matured into an ACC-quality player,” Johnson said.

Johnson said Smith must add muscle to his frame and listen to N.C. State coach Sidney Lowe, who has tutored a few players his size before.

Smith used to be a North Carolina fan. Not anymore.

He said he chose N.C. State because it was a local ACC school and because of Lowe, a former NBA coach. He has always dreamed of playing against elite ACC competition.

I am going to the game tonight and will report what I see.

Smith used to be a North Carolina fan. Not anymore.

Remember how Jerry Stackhouse and Michael Jordan used to be NC State fans, but not when they were recruited? I just find that interesting.

What’s more encouraging is him choosing NC State because of Coach Lowe. I look forward to seeing him in the Red & White!

I think Lowe will prove to be phenomenal in recruiting. With his personality and credentials, why wouldn’t any kid with NBA aspirations not want to play for him. I am as excited about NCSU BB and FB as I’ve ever been.

Is the N and O a sponsor of this event? I know GSK is.

    I think this bears repeating:

“He said he chose N.C. State because it was a local ACC school and BECAUSE OF LOWE…”

lets remember, Smith still hasnt signed his LOI

  8. cpwolfpackfan 12/27/2006 at 4:30 PM #

something that worrys me about smith is this, He said he was used to be a tarheel fan, he still hasn’t signed his LOI, he wants to play in the acc. Not that I want this to happen at all but do you think it is possibel that he may be waiting around to see who leaves off of UNC, like hasbourough, wright, terry, etc…. so ol roy would offer him a scholy to fill some holes over in smurf vill. I pray that would never happen, but you never know

from what I have read, the thomas kid is like the tucker kid from texas last year, can do a little bit of everything. He is tough, can rebound very well for his size. 6’6″ playes like he is 6’8″. can shoot pretty good, and handle the ball, he might be the steel of the signing class

I believe the reason he has not signed yet, is because he is not yet qualified, academically.

laddie^ i thought he qualified before he gave his verbal sometime in November??? is the game on TV tonight?

  12. Pack Laddie 12/28/2006 at 9:39 AM #

my understanding is that he is not yet fully qualified

think I read that the game is on ESPNU

I can’t wait to see what lowe has instore for us the next few years. I really think we hit a home run with this hire. This year may be a little tough even though we have some talent, they were made for another system. Lowe is doing a great job with all things considered. Next year we are going to be loaded down low. McCually, Costner, Hickson, Smith, then you add in thomas who playes bigger then he is. With grant coming back, and fells, degand, fegerson, horner. Things are looking up guys. I am ready for the respect we desirve. we havn’t been given it latley so it is our time to take it from people. go pack!!

I didn’t get to see any of the games, but Johnny Thomas was the MVP of the Little Four tournment, leading G’boro Day to the title.
