Party like it’s 1959

NC State’s loss to East Carolina was the Wolfpack’s seventh in a row. That’s a level of awfulness that hasn’t happened in Raleigh since 1959. There’s only one way to mark this momentous occasion, folks. We gotta do it in song form. Hit it, Coach!

(Tonight I’m gonna party like it’s) 1959
By Chucked Amato

I was dreamin’ I could coach here
Forgive me if we go astray
But when I woke up this mornin’
Could have sworn it was judgment day

The crowd was all purple
There were goobers drinkin’ everywhere
Tryin’ to see the Pack destruction
You’d think I didn’t even care

It was
Two thousand zero, zero, when I started —
Whoops! Out of time!
So tonight I’m gonna party
Like it’s 1959!

I was dreamin’ I could coach here
So sue me if we just don’t win
But it’s just a game of inches
And we played our fannies off like men

Breaks are all against us
My mind says we came to fight
So now I gotta go
Can’t you gimme one more break tonight

It was
Two thousand zero, zero, when I started —
Whoops! Out of time!
So tonight I’m gonna party
Like it’s 1959!
1959!

If you must come to fire me
Don’t bother knockin’ on my door
I heard the line on the broadcast
Eleven quarters, no TD scored

Yeah, that Marc Trestman is a bomb
Scoring drives were as rare as gold
But look at him, he wears glasses
He’s a genius, or so I’m told

It was
Two thousand zero, zero, when I started —
Whoops! Out of time!
(I’m running out of time!)
So tonight I’m gonna party
Like it’s 1959!

It was
Two thousand zero, zero, when I started —
Whoops! Out of time!
So tonight I’m gonna party
Like it’s 1959!

Just like it’s 1959!

You say it, 1959!

1959!

1959! Not since, not since
Say it one more time!
1959!

I was going to post this in in the other thread, but the comment box disappeared.

I noticed that when they introduced Roman Gabrial and teammates at the game, the shaking of hands was done by an assistant AD. Hmmm….

Amato’s post-game comments are unbelievable. He really thinks he’s had one bad season. “One bad season doesn’t define a program. Programs are built on time.” Yeah, fine, whatever, save it for 2004. This is three bad seasons … and that’s by being nice and not counting Philip Rivers and Jerricho Cotchery’s inconceivably miserable 7-5 senior season.

Thanks for the memories, Chuck. Well, thanks for the good ones. Which are several years old now. No thanks for all the recent memories.

I would have never believed after beating Boston College and Florida State back-to-back that the next football win we’d see would be, at best, next September.

Adam Gold is reporting the following on the 850 blog:

“…reports from press row indicated that NC State’s assistant coaches were informed prior to tonight’s game (Friday?) that Chuck Amato would not be retained. “

Did anyone notice that Chuck did not appear on the JUMBOTRON 1 time tonight. NO Jiffy Lube, Chucks truck or Chuck it recycling. They did not put him on any commercials up there and did not show him from the sideline.

The game was a total embarrasment. We took our own goalposts down before the end of the game

Ha, not everybody. I am, however, proud not to know too much trivia concerning Prince.

Plus, “Purple Pain” was too easy of a joke. If I could’ve found that old signing day pic of Chuck on the motorcycle, I’d have made an even better Photoshop album spoof.

This (on top of the Wake win and ND loss) gave me some reason to smile tonight!

  7. Cali_Wolf 11/26/2006 at 2:38 AM #

Folks, Wake Forest is in the Championship game. Something is really wrong in Raleigh.

It’s hard. It’s not something I am happy about. It was a season of inches.” – Chuck Amato

I feel your pain Cali_Wolf. Someone’s going to have a lot of explaining to do one way or the other tomorrow and/or Monday about this football program.

I never meant to cause u so much sorrow,
I never meant to lose so many games,
I only want everyone else to be laughing,
one more time while we have purple pain..
    Purple pain, purple pain…..

Chin up folks, things can only get better.

I can only hope our next album is better.

I was thinking that thew Talking Heads song “Same As it Ever Was” is just as appropriate.

This is not my beautiful house
This is not my beautiful wife
Well, how did I get here?

I have to admit…. I gave my game tickets to two very cool ECU grads. I was tired and torn and knew my presence at the game would be torturous at best. I love the prospect of new excitement but I am somewhat scared of what the future holds. I’m rambling but the point is…… I’m torn about this move though I know we need a new coach. I know that all… every single one…. of the ECU fans I bumped into after the game at the bar were suprisingly cordial and sympathetic. They all agreed that we need to make a move. one guy, an exECU player tonight said our talent rivals that of any team they’ve played all year and yet we can’t do enough things right to dominate a lesser foe.

    That’s a problem.

Is the guy seriously doing an Estee Lauder photoshoot in my good friend, John Bunting’s backyard?

If thou shalt be what this world is cometh to, then i shalt be stabeth in DeHart…. Withe musdst adu, Chow for adjourned coach.

    Socially Accepted.

  19. wolfpacker55 11/26/2006 at 6:51 AM #

P.S. we did NOT go to EZU game but we all would’ve worn the “Purple and Gold” in support of the “Anti-Amato Movement.”

  20. wolfpacker55 11/26/2006 at 7:02 AM #

The Coach Amato was losing dreadfully to the “guy” with whom was having Butch posing in the midst of victory. Behind the grey patched tarp a young man emerged as though were twenty years ago today, friends.. Romans.. countrymen.. lend me you’re sword in reclanation of our beingst pinnacle of mediocrity. Thank you for the support, “Coach” Lee Fowler. X0X0

I am vehemently against rooting against your team, or rooting against your coach.

But I cannot deny it. I had to go to work when State was leading 10-7. When I came back home and started listening to the radio archives online, my heart did a guilty flutter when I heard ECU score again.

This is embarassing…but so utterly so that surely it portends change.

I was in the seats for all four home losses in 1959. Three of those games were decided by scores of 14-17, 15-17 and 14-18.

On one punt return we had 10 men on the field, on one later we had 12 (yes penalty). How does one get to the 12th game of the seson and not know when one is to be on the field?

98st8, I made that same observation about the jumbotron. In fact he’s not appeared for the last 3 games. I think there’s a reason.

  24. Woof Wolf 11/26/2006 at 9:41 AM #

TYPO: That last score was 14-19.

[…] UPDATE (2X):  If you haven’t yet seen the post on Statefans…for those fans of the artist formerly known as the Artist Formerly Known as Prince, you’ll be able to easily sing along.  Just too funny not to pass it along.  One criticism, however.  Everyone knows that this track came from the “1999″ Album.   […]
