Winning really isn’t everything.
How many teams could squeak by 5-6 Wyoming by 7, get out-gained by (4-6) Idaho, post a come from behind fourth quarter win by 3 over San Jose St. and still be ranked in the top 15? In addition, this team has played only two other teams who have won more than 3 games, yet they are closing in on a BCS berth. You guessed it… Boise St.
The BCS now has spots for 10 teams. The six BCS conferences will obviously secure spots as likely will Notre Dame. That leaves three “at large spots. The Big 10 between Wisconsin and the loser of OSU/Michigan should get a second spot. The SEC almost certainly will get a second spot. The remaining spot will come down to Boise St., a second Big East, Pac 10, ACC, or Big 12 team, or a third SEC team (if that’s allowed under the BCS rules). Has Boise St. really done anything to merit a BCS spot? Is just winning, especially if you’re barely winning against bad teams, enough?
Overall, things are starting to take shape while even more will be learned this weekend.
