Guest Writer: Billy Tough

Many State fans are familiar with Ur-Fan BillyTough, perhaps the most loyal member of our Wolfpack family. Mr. Tough’s adminitions to “not throw the team and coach under a bus!” have warmed our hearts and stiffened our resolve. Mr. Tough contacted SFN and asked us to run the statement below. It appears, at Mr. Tough’s request, unedited.

Hello my fellow Pack fans through and through I BillyTough have something to say and the gentlemen who run this Internal Net sight have been kind enough to let me say it all I had to do was ask them! So let me say it! Thank you.

I BillyTough have always been a loyal State fan it was faith in my Wolfpack that got me to the victory in the Henderson County ToughMan Contest in 1998 AND First Runner Up Tough in the Buncombe County ToughMan Contest the same year (I was cheated but that is a story for another day I think!). And HOW did I get all those wins you ask? It was by remembering the spirit of THE WOLFPACK and never letting go of my dream or giving up, like the Great Jimmy V, may Jesus care for his eternal soul even though he was not Baptist, always told us to remember.

That’s how I got my nickname, by being, tough, tough, tough! Like a wolf! But that is also a story for another day as I have a heavy heart and a sad tale to tell that must be told. And though I am just an apple farmer from Tuxedo producing quality apples with illegal Mexican-free labor (“Vay Mos, I tell those folks. This here’s an American orchard!) some folks have told me that I am now a fan of some well known and that I must speak. I would be proud of that last part but Preacher Bob says, “Be not proud. So, I am not.

But I BillyTough have these things to say.

Sometimes in the past so-called “State fans called for coaches to be fired, or even for our beloved Wolfpack to LOSE in order to advance some kind of AIGENDA that seems like a Light Blue AIGENDA to me, BillyTough. I always spoke out against these Sheep in Wolf’s Clothing and always will! “Don’t throw our team under a bus, I said. “Not when the kids are playing their hearts out and the offense is just starting to Jell. I questioned them that they ain’t TRUE WOLFPACK FANS. And they ain’t! If you doubt that, check with BillyTough, because I give it my 100 percent Guarantee! That even goes for Coach Lee Fowler even though I agree with my Uncle Bung that Coach Lee Fowler is as dense as six inches up a Brahma bull’s ass.

Now, I BillyTough have never felt stronger about any of this Sheep Criticism than I did when it was about COACH AMATO. Coach AMATO bleeds red and white like me. He looked like he was tough, like me. And like me, I knew he hated the CAROLINA TAR HEELS like Satan’s Imps that they are (and some Sodom People too but I will not get into that to be sure!). So I said always, don’t throw Coach AMATO under a bus!

But I have come to doubts in my heart about Coach AMATO after last weekend’s third loss in a row to the Evil Tar Heels. The Evil Tar Heels were one of the worst teams in America, look it up! They had not beaten a 1-A opponent ALL YEAR. Now I know that Coach AMATO was going through a Re Building year but losing to the Tar Heels the way he did last Saturday was an ABOMINATION. So, I thought, maybe he does NOT hate the Tar Heels like I do, because Hendersonville High could have beaten that Tar Heel team! And my beloved Wolfpack lost to them 23-9! My thoughts: CONSPIRACY?

I BillyTough do not know the answers to these questions as I am no philosopher. But I do know this: Losing to that sorry ass Tar Heel team for the third time in a row enough is truly ENOUGH! So, again with a heavy heart I BillyTough am Officially withdrawing my support for Coach AMATO and

THROWING HIM UNDER THE BUS

Because there is nothing left to do with a man who loses to the hated Tar Heels and pretty much everyone else too and loses to the Tar Heels THREE YEARS IN A GOLDANGED ROW. Preacher Bob says a soft answer turneth away wrath but I am truly WROTHFUL. “His justice cometh and that right early, Preacher Bob also says and it is time for some JUSTICE for the football program I love.

Let the Bus roll, and take Coach AMATO to some other place. I BillyTough decree that it is time for a new coach for the North Carolina State University Football Team!

Thank you, and GO PACK!

It was with some trepidation that I chose to publish Mr. Tough’s manifesto, but given that it shows discontent with the Amato regime in the most solid quarters of the fan base, it seemed like the thing to do.

OMFG. lunatic fringe + hog farmer = wolfpack nation? can we not represent better/more logical than this?

  3. packpigskinfan23 11/20/2006 at 12:22 PM #

unfortunatley at times the most ILLOGICAL can be the most logical.

Wow, Brother Billy bailing on CTC. Perhaps change could actually happen. God bless you Billy for walking the walk. Constructive change starts with facing the truth. You’ve taken the first step. Perhaps we could re-ignite that revival that broke out on SFN after Daniel Evans performance in the BC game, get everybody praying and who knows, the Lord might show us some grace. Chuck does love the program and says he wants to do what is best for it. Lee, help him do the right thing. Please.

Mr. Tough is not a hog farmer. Moreover, Mr. Tough represents precisely the opposite of the “Lunatic Fringe” group – which Canutian referred to as the “Just Cuz” faction.

What’s wrong with a hog farmer. I take offense to take. I am a proud hog farmer and an even prouder Wolfpack fan.

  7. Cardiff Giant 11/20/2006 at 12:28 PM #

^ I agree. There is nothing wrong with hog farmers. I merely wished to correct the poster’s erroneous assertion that Mr. Tough was a hog farmer rather than a apple farmer, which he actually is.

Kudos to Cardiff and his pal Billy T.

When this current “unpleasantness” runs its course, I’ll challenge Biilly to a Spelling Bee in the Brickyard w/ all the gate receipts going to The V Foundation.

We should all take offense, considering that hog farming revenues are vital to NC State’s revenue.

I apologize, that was a very offensive/ignorant statement as w/o hogfarmers applefarmers etc. we would not be the great university that we are.

However, the post came across very redneck, uneducated and illogical. No personal offense to BillyTough as I understand how emotions can bring out unwanted overtones and themes in writing. But I think that the Wolfpack Nation can represent themselves much better than we have (lets face it, in the eye’s of the rest of the nation we’re not exactly an accomodating fanbase).

That being said, I agree, changes need to be made, however I do not want to see another basketball situation on our hands where, no offense to Sidney Lowe, we rush into ridding ourselves of a coach when we have no replacement and we are forced to go to an unproven, lower tier coach. As long as there is work being done behind the scenes (which is worth questioning) attaining a “next level” coach, I think we can stand to wait behind Amato for another year (two? yikes) and allow him to continue to bring in more quality recruits for [insert next quality coach here] to arrive.

    ^ Oh, dear.

  12. Lock 11/20/2006 at 2:00 PM #

Man, even I’m in favor of getting rid of Amato. I can’t believe how low we fell this year.

I support coaches who get us to postseason play.

    THis ain’t happenin’ here.

But…as has been pointed out…I don’t want our discontent to cause us to rush into getting a sub-par coach who keeps us on this downward spiral (though how much lower can we go?).

No worries, CarnifeX – we are laughing with you (at least once you figure out whether BillyTough is real or not).

oh, who’s the one that’s “redneck, uneducated and illogical” now? I’m a dolt. (kinda like BillyTough I suppose) Looks like some more “Satire” missed the point with me. (seems to be a theme on this site)

Thank-you for shutting down the “rumor” thread. I appreciate your efforts to keep these discussions at a mature level that you can actually gain something from.

“oh, who’s the one that’s “redneck, uneducated and illogicalâ€? now? I’m a dolt. (kinda like BillyTough I suppose) Looks like some more “Satireâ€? missed the point with me. (seems to be a theme on this site)”

You fail to pick up on a very obvious satire, and that is the site’s problem?

Wolfman: I think some idiots from TWW or The Brickyard found the blog. I didn’t take care of it but I am glad someone did.

  17. highonlowe 11/20/2006 at 5:22 PM #

why shut them all down though?

It looks like the Technician’s Tanner Kroeger was the one who asked the forbidden question at the presser. Bravo Tanner, it needed to be addressed.

“Tanner” is still a silly name, though. The only “Tanner” I ever met was an exotic dancer at a titty bar in Austin.

    ^ Hahahahahaha…

I knew two: one was a frat boy at Carolina and the other was a stripper. I’m tearing up…

  21. Cardiff Giant 11/20/2006 at 5:54 PM #

^ I remember because it was my very last trip to a titty bar. I got drunk and somehow tipped one of the skanks with a $100 bill instead of a $20. That was enough for me; I never went to one again.

I’m not sure which is worse… Billy Tough’s logic or Amato’s?

From the outside it seems like the program is facing a crisis. What does it look like from the inside?
I’ll answer this, but I want to answer a little about the crisis in front of us, which is East Carolina University, and what happened behind us.

On the oustide, yes, we’ve lost games, and do we like? No, because losing in anything is not liked.

Is there a crisis inside of here? If there is, I haven’t seen it. If there is, you people would have seen it on the football field. Do you see people on that field not fighting for 60 minutes?

It’s so funny how people deal with different universities or different corporations when things go bad… and you’re talking about the same thing.

We’re not satisfied with what happened this year because we’ve lost a bunch of real close football games.

This program is in good shape.

You sometimes say success breeds success. Can losing breed more losing?
It can. It can. But the thing about that is when you’re coming that close, they always realize that as long as there is breath there is a chance.

It’s a season that we are very… not happy with. That doesn’t mean that next year… who knows. There are a million of examples out there.

Do you think this season puts more pressure on next season? You have to have a big year next year like some of the programs you talked about have turned it around… Wake Forest and Maryland. Do you personally feel this season puts more pressure on next year… do you feel you are in a make-or-break situation coming off a season like this?
Yes, why not? I wonder… did you say that was the case of those two examples you used before the season started… that they were under that kind of scrutiny?

I say it with a smile. I’ve mentioned it before… apples and apples, apples and oranges. I answered your question. You heard mine. Have a Happy Thanksgiving. Don’t eat too much.

Besides winning close games, what else needs to change?
That will help things considerably, and there are things that need to get fixed. Maybe get fixed is the wrong word, but have to improve. You know them and I know them. I don’t have to tell you that. You know them and I know them. They are stats.

    It can be fixed.

Coach, you talked about some of the things that need to be changed to get some close wins. What do you say to the people who feel that there needs to be a change?
I think you’ve been told about that.

Happy Thanksgiving. I’m not going to leave this room with a frown. I know some of you don’t like to smile, but Happy Thanksgiving. Oh, and we’d weigh you in on Thursday.
