Week 7 TV Schedule

Nationally its not a great schedule this week outside of the Auburn/Florida game. In the ACC, we’ll see some key matchups beginning on Thursday night with the BC/VPI game.

This is a strange year in college football. No one outside Columbus seems to be able to handle success. After key victories, USC has struggled, Auburn has stumbled, and Tennessee has disappointed. Will Florida be next on this list? The Gators are good, but are they good enough to go into Auburn against a wounded Tiger team looking for redemption after an embarrassing loss? I don’t think so. Florida doesn’t have the pound it down your throat running game that’s needed to beat Auburn, and the Tiger defense is fast enough to slow down anything else the Gators throw at them. On the other side, Auburn’s passing game should be strong enough against Florida’s secondary to open up the running game for Kenny Irons.

Some interesting things to watch in the ACC…

Despite their solid records, both BC and VPI could use a win here to reestablish some national credibility. Both teams only have one loss and are very much in the conference race, but only Virginia Tech is ranked in both polls.

After some poor showings by the ACC against Big East teams, (1-4) UNC has the opportunity to bring some respect to the conference with a win over (4-2) South Florida. UNC has lost to some pretty good teams, and USF has beat some pretty bad ones; so this game could go either way.

It won’t happen, but if Miami loses to winless FIU, Coker won’t make it out of the locker room with his job. The only thing giving the Golden Panthers any semblance of a chance, only one loss has been by more than 5 points.

Obviously the Pack/Wake game is huge. NC State can strengthen its hold on the Atlantic with a win over a surprising Wake team. The Clemson game is clearly the key game, but lets take it one week at a time.

Watch Rutgers and WVU both struggle this week. They are playing inferior teams, but the ‘Eers have the ‘Cuse in the dome. SU are playing tough. They don’t have enough speed on D, but if they can play keep away against the suspect WVU D, and get a special teams break, it will happen.

Navy is built for ball possession and obviusly plays disciplined, so they will have a shot agianst any team that doesn’t overwhelm them with speed. Although Rutgers has certainly increased their team speed, they are not a track team by any stretch.

The Mighty Big East may come crashing back to Earth this weekend.

Please don’t fire Bunting! I want him there at least another 10 years, assuming Chuck can figure out how to beat him every year. If he stays another 10 years, maybe he can do to Carolina football what Sendek did for our basketball program!!!!

    Highstick,

I like your idea……But I think it would take Bunting longer than ten years to cause a debacle like NC State BBall. I honestly think Bunting could have had a Better team with our BBall team last year than our former coach. 🙂

Looks like Stewie Mandel over at SI.com is having a change of heart over his pick of CTC as the #1 worst coach this past summer. He has now removed Chuck from his list and replaced him with Buntcake!

For some odd reason I think Va tech is going to beat BC. After that embarassing tail whuppin’ put on VT by GT — Beamer has probably been hamering those guys and challenging their manhood for the past week and 1/2. As for BC — our defeat of them was crushing — they will implode in the coming weeks.

South Fla is a good team. JB always pulls one out of his — er — out. This may be the one. Hope not. I also love hearing the ads on the radio to try and sell seats to Kenan Stadium $10 was the offer this AM.

So Cal to win – Sorry packpigskinfan — give me hell on Sunday if ASU comes close. 🙂

    Md over Va
Clemson to cover over Temple (+44) Have to use the odds — this team on a schedule in week 7 is deplorable. No way we should be criticized for our early schedule.

Bo don’t know VaTech. BC slapped them. Beamer ball is no more.

After throttling Cal, Tennessee has disappointed relative to the expectations created after that win. While Tennessee has certainly exceeded preseason expectations, those expectations were reset with the Cal win.

Only beating Air Force by one point and losing to Florida at home are both disappointments. The Florida loss likely takes Tennessee out of the SEC championship race. Despite the victory over Georgia, letting the a Bulldog team who could only score 14 points on Mississippi and Colorado put up 33 points is also disappointing.

Its true that most teams would be very happy with Tennessee’s record and quality wins, but the team, especially the defense, has to play more consistently to have a championship season, and after the Cal game, Tennessee had looked like the team to beat in the SEC.

Auburn proved me wrong. Spectacular D by the Tigers in the 2nd half won the game for them. Florida’s D played well enough to win, only allowing a field goal in the 2nd half, but their Offense and special teams let them down.
